Round 5 - Division 4

.
Fermanagh senior hurlers ended their 2011 National Hurling League campaign on a high with a massive win over hosts Leitrim with a telling score of 4 goals 19 points for the Erneside visitors to a modest 1 goal 9 points for the north Connaught side. With exception of an eight minute draw of a one minute each, Fermanagh lead the way, for the remainder of the match. At half-time they Ernesiders lead with a telling score of 2 goals 8 points to a mere 4 points for the Leitrim hosts. There was of course a downside; with sending off their right half back Daniel Teague, thus reducing the Erneside team down to fourteen men. In truth this rampant Fermanagh side could have defeated this lack lustre Leitrim side with even fewer players. With the ending the 2011 National Hurling League Division 4 campaign, there is one of mixed emotions, firstly winning three out of five games, secondly only conceding one match against South Down, thirdly and most tragically an unnecessary away draw against Tyrone, when they winning of the game was there for the taking.
The match - the first half.
Fermanagh Get Into Their Scoring Stride Quickly
Establishing their scoring presence very early in this match, Fermanagh's right half forward Ryan Bogue opened his and his sides scoring account with a well taken point from a free. However they visitors scoring dommince was short lived, when Leitrim quickly replied with a point from a free by their mid-fielder Dave McGovern. This equilibrium was short lived, with Fermanagh's ace mid-fielder scorer John Duffy seizing this game by the scruff of the neck, then he blasting home for his side's first goal from play. That major score on the matches' eight minute then saw a Fermanagh scoring dominance, which was to last until the opening half's twenty seventh minute, when very belatedly they host had their second minor score. Mean while they Ernesiders scoring machine revved into action, with their left half forward J.P. McGarry popping over his side's second point from play. With the end of the game's opening approaching we had a batch of unswered scores from firstly the Ernesiders left half back Francie McBrien (1 point). Then Fermanagh full forward pucked over a point from play. Continuing this point scoring exercise full forward Brendan McGarry (1 point). Then at the end of the games first quarter the Ernesiders right forward Ryan Bogue raced up to the scoring plate, when registered the first his second and his sides fifth point from play. With matches' second quarter now entered and then Park's score board now displaying 1 point for the hapless Leitrim side to 1 goal 5 points for the now rampant Fermanagh side. There was however no respite for the north Connaught men, with Ernesiders now blasting home a second goal courtesy of their right full forward Sean Corrigan from play. Suddenly that second major Fermanagh score, spurred the lack lustre Leitrim side into a token scoring resistance, when they had they two points firstly from Michael Lane and then from they latter's colleague Dave McGovern. Then the revitalised Shannonsider's got another point just before the break to wrap up their opening half's scoring to four points. Back with the first half master scorers, who popped over a further three points from Declan McGarry, Francie McBrien ( 2 points) to complete the Fermanagh side's pre-interval hat trick.

More Fermanagh Scoring Dominance
In stark contrast to this game's opening half it was the Leitrim host's who announced their major scoring arrival, when their ace free taker blasted home his and his sides only goal from play. However they quickly recovered Ernesiders fired over a triple of points from firstly Ryan Bogue from a free, then points from play by Mark Slevin and Andrew Breslin. However Fermanagh players, management and supporters were temporally deflated, when their right half back Daniel Teague, was flashed a second yellow and then an automatic red to have his team reduced to 14 players. Though there was still over twenty minutes to the game's full time whistle, this Erneside outfit was so much in command of the score board and the playing park; they rather easily absorbed the reduction in playing numbers. The still battling Leitrim now had fifth point from Michael Lane from a free. Fermanagh's reply was both in quantity and quality; with firstly their full forward Brendan McGarry blasted home his side's third goal from play. Then their captain Mark Slevin popped over his second score and his side's twelfth point from play. There was in further minor scoring by Brendan full forward Brendan McGarry, who clipped over they Ernesiders thirteenth point. The now scoring gung Fermanagh attackers now massively stepped up their scoring quality, when their right full forward Sean Corrigan blasted home his second and his sides fourth and last goal. Reverting to points to complete their successful afternoon game Fermanagh had further points from firstly Ryan Bogue from a free, and then Declan McGarry a point from play. The scoring ace of the afternoon Sean Corrigan popped over his ides seventeenth point from play. Whilst Leitrim's Michael Lane replied with their sixth point, it was quickly nullified by Ryan Bogue, with the Ernesiders eighteenth point. With just over five points to full time, the still unbowed Leitrim hosts attempted to step a gear, but they were repeatedly thwarted by they resolute Fermanagh defence. Following one these robost defences, Leitrim's Dave McGovern was flashed a straight red card for nasty of the ball incident. Picking themselves up they north Connaught side registered further three points before full time. This matches' obviously winners also continuing scoring in the games last minutes, when the triumphant Fermanagh men added on more victorious point from Sean Corrigan.
