Footballonly , some of those names you named out!! Maybe one or two but not all them. . Rory Maguire has gotten him chance, probably past it now (Although he is a super footballer) Clynch is involved with the hurlers we shoul;d be using the Juniors as a springboard for the Senior team, Who are Kilbrides main two players?? Coyne probably a bit old also, If we needed a midfielder Im sure they could of asked Glen Loughran but Id say they want younger lads with a view of bringing them onto the Senior panel

lads to be fair to both management and players, there is not enought time put in to the junior teams over the last number of years, we need to have a manager in place for 2014 now ,and let him put a programme in place for all players who would be considered for next years panel, there is a lot of work required here, and if we are using this for a spring board for future senior players, we need to start work now not 2/3 weeks before the championship starts, i was at the match lastnight and yes it was a young team out but thats exactly what is required for the future, yes it was dissapointing to watch but it is not these lads fault , time and patience is required and good backing from our county board ,not last minute appointment of managers,

2. Simon Carty(dunderry)
3. Conor McGill(ratoath)
4. Brian Power(ratoath)
5. Conor Carton(Don/Ash)
6. Ciaran McConnell(bective)
7. Neil Shorthall(curraha)
8. Conor Sheridan(Simonstown)
9. Cian O'Brien(ratoath)
10. Daniel Queeney(na Fianna)
11. Conor Downey(na Fianna)
12. Paddy Kennelly( dunderry)
13. Bryan McMahon(ratoath)
14. Bobby O'Brien(ratoath)

baker - look at this article in relation to the county board's attitude about the late appointment of the management, they don't seem to understand the amount of time needed to work with players if they want to be fully prepared at any level of intercounty, and the most annoying thing is they won't admit they are wrong. link

Great post and example.

Youve highlighted exactly what and where the problem is.
The mindset needs to change surrounding this competition.
Simple choice.
Take it seious, or dont.
If they dont, pull out of it and save a lot of people a lot of time.
If they are to take it serious, which I think they should, then change the entire mindset surrounding the team.

That arcticle highlights the way they think. Ah sure its only the Juniors, so March is plenty of time to throw a manager and panel together for a championship game in May. Even the weakest of club teams are better organised like that, so why represent our county with a team so poorly prepared from Co Board level.
Its time to stop viewing it as, only a Junior team" as it seems to create an impression that theres little or no importance to them.
All of those players last night had to have a much better attitude to their personal and club training and carry on, so the co board should match that with the same.
This should be viewed as a feeder team to the Senior set up, Should be training for the same duration, have at least on member of the same backroom team, (trainer/selector) and ideally play the same game plan or system as the seniors.

As it stands, that team had very little time together, and the senior squad will have learned 0 from them.
Had that team been ran in tandom with the seniors and got a run together in Leinster then MOD and co would have a real insight to the next best options to bring lads into the senior squad as replacements as the year goes on if needed.

And before anyone says it, Im aware that there will be a few Senior club footballers who then may not be on either panel, but thats where your senior managmnet come in making the cut on their panels.

Manager was appointed a lot earlier than in other years. The problem is that players dont want to play with Juniors for a number of reasons
1 wrong time of year with 3rd level exams on
2. Meath Club Championships this weekend
3. Club managers calling the shots

This grade serves little purpose in Meath really a 3rd grade team Kildare are the same and it is true that they gathered 2/3 weeks ago

All Counties should work off the same platform and a 2nd string team should run along side Meath Seniors picked as in Louth and Cavan from all clubs them it could really be a type of Development squad and would serve as a spring board to the Senior Team.

Kildare have little interest as they used to have the other system and now are shackled the same as Meath picking only from Intermediate and Junior sides.

The worrying thing is that the Kildare players came in from their Clubs last few weeks to their squad as the Meath lads did but in far better shape than Meath Bigger, Faster Fitter, Stronger and better all round.

On that basis Meath Clubs most be light years behind what is standard in at club level in Kildare.... Am I right or am I reading it wrong ????

Meath Junior Management did as good as they could with poor raw material.... Thats what I THINK SO IT IS SO IT IS

Glenny,
the standard of Intermediate football is quite high in Kildare with four different clubs having won the Leinster Intermediate Championship since 2006. And the Kildare Intermediate championship itself is very competitive at the moment. It has been said that it it is harder to win an Intermediate Championship in Kildare that to win a senior one.
