Snapper yo seem to have forgotten we beat louth in the O'bytne cup this year. we all know how seriously louth take that competition. trust me when i say this, the one point loss to kildare and galway (games with threw away) followed by a dismal performance against Derry and Tyrone had a huge effect on the Louth game. A teams true form comes out in the championship and I was happy with how we bounced back against Wicklow. Carlow don't get the credit they deserve for that draw and looked like a division 2 or 1 side that day. Some serious scores kick over.

The replay showed the real gulf in class and then Meath went on to steam roll kildare. i doubt louth would have made the final that way but if you did dublin would have hammered you by 20 points. as for us losing to laois i don't think too many teams would have beaten them under the circumstances. it was all about winning leinster are season ended that day against dublin.

Who will take the job or who will be given it is anyones guess. I would like to see Boylan back in charge (to steady the ship!) along with Sean Kelly and Gerry McEntee and this number could be added to. It is important to scan the county for players and get guys for positions. At present we have only about 3 defenders who can defend at best (and not many on our half back line). We need a couple of ball winners scattered between midfield and forwards and all players should have a high work rate and be able to play for the team -not themselves!. Too many players all over the vfield who do not appear what their primary job is. We need to pick a keeper who plays in goals for his club and who has regular experience in that position. I thin k a 3 year period should be sufficient with each year from now showing an improvement.

A simple method of beating Kildare is by direct running at their defence. A slow, laborious build-up will be easily broken down. The likes of Walsh and Kerrigan ran directly at Kildare's defence today and were rewarded for it. We did it the odd time against them and it also worked.

What Meath should get is a young enthusiastic manager with new ideas.If that is someone like Trevor Giles,then take the chance.Personally I think that Jason Ryan would be a great choice.Hes young and seems like a clever guy with young ideas.Hes just free from the Wexford job,where he really improved them and brought them forward.

Why would we want Jason Ryan, he has won nothing. Wexford have been playing in div 3 for most of his time except 09 in div 2 where they didn't win a game. They played in two div 3 league finals and won neither of them and were absolutely trashed in a Leinster Final a few years ago by Dublin. And in later years failed to beat Dublin when they should have.

Why go looking for an outside manager who has won nothing, we would be far better off with Banty back. As I said its not like we are talking about a manager who has won leagues, provincials and all Irelands. People are forgetting that very few outside managers have worked, even if they won All Irelands, look at Joe Kernan in Galway, disaster. Look at McGeeney in Kildare, all their huffing and puffing and nothing to show for it. So I can't understand why we would go chasing people like Jason Ryan, Luke Dempsey or Banty, which should never have been done in the first place.

It doesn't matter where the manager's from. McNulty's done a very good job with Laois, O'Mahony was terrific with Galway, our former trainer Evans did well with Tipperary. Our big problem is defence. The game is so tacical now because everything is about counterattacking at pace. You need a system to deal with that. Even Kerry have adapted to zonal defending. Is there a coach in Meath who can step into intercounty football and build that system? Maybe Sean Kelly? Maybe someone like Luke Dempsey?

Do you honestly think our defence is the real problem? If you think about it our defence hasn't been too bad all year (not great obviously) but it's our over rated, highly inconsistent forward line which I think has to shoulder a large portion of the blame. But even at that, the real blatant problem is our midfield, no question about that what so ever, we're 11 years waiting for McDermott's replacement and nobody has even threatened to take the baton yet.

Our new manager doesn't necessarily have to be from Meath but it would help keep the masses happy and so we probably should just go down that road, like a lot of Meath people I'd love to see McEntee get the job because of his passion and commitment to Meath football in the past. But of course as we all know he really wouldn't have the time for modern day management in our 'amateur sport' so I suppose we can discount him.

Sean Kelly or a combo of old former players like Giles and Geraghty I suppose could be given the job, at least younger players would instantly respect them and it couldn't really do much harm. Boylan was appointed back in 82 (or 83) without any track record of inter county management so we shouldn't discount lads without experience for the job, it's a big risk which could backfire but what the hell, for the last decade we've been in terminal decline so rolling the dice now can't hurt much.

yeah some people want giles to be the manager but do people not think geraghty too? i think he'd be good, the players would definitely respect him and i think he'd bring that bit of hardiness to the players which giles might not but i think both of them together would be good too.
