Meath v Kildare - 1st July

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

CONGRATS to all the players , Banty and all the selectors . Today is another hugh step in the right direction for Meath football . I was so impressed with Meath in the replay against Carlow I told everyone that it was the best performance from a young Meath team in years and to back them at 3/1 to beat Kildare . Today was better , so dont let anyone say that its only one game we played well in its not we were outstanding in our last two games . Cant wait to hear was PAT has to say on the telly tonight he gave us no chance . July 22nd Meath v Dublin it doesn't get any better than that . Bring on the Dubs

Yeah, you're bang on there ziggy, there's potential in this team. What I'm impressed with is the quality on the bench and in fairness to Banty, he brought them in with perfect timing.
Really hope the team stay grounded and keep that intensity and aggression through to the final. Great to see that by the way, no backing down, not giving an inch and dominating Kildare physically for much of the game.

Leinster football is very poor this year with the exception of the dubs. Dublin will hammer Meath in the final, surprised at how bad Kildare were today, the just couldnt get reorganised after the sending off. Disappointing cos the Leinster final will be very one sided now.

Congrats to all the lads today I am delighted with the win and hopefully we can keep it going for the final but it won't be easy because Dublin won't play as badly again as they did today so it will be tough but u never know we might just do it. And would like to thank all the Kildare fans for being so sporting and there well wishes for the final and I would like to wish Kildare all the best for the rest of the year and I wouldn't rule out meeting use later in the championship because use will bounce back and I think use will be very hard to beat.

Only a fool would write Meath off against the Dubs or someone who doesn't know the history between these two sides. 1995 apart, there was never more than two/three points between these two sides over the past sixty years of championship football. Leinster football is now back where it should be with the best rivalry there is in Gaelic football happening on Leinster Final day. We both need each other, although Dublin did it without our help last year. Normally it takes one to get the other up to All-Ireland pace (Meath of course did it without the Dubs in '67 but you can expect these exceptions sometimes over such a long period). On yesterdays game, I thought the team played as a unit and any of about 5 players could have gotten Man of the Match. My favourite was Alan Forde just shading it over Damien Carroll. However I thought Gillespie was immense. Remember this man was only fourth in the midfield pecking order last Spring behind Ward, Meade, and O'Rourke. However those of us who watch a lot of club football knew he would make it with the county if he was given the responsibility.

On a slightly different matter congrats to the hogan Stand for the cover photo on their match report. This shows that O'Connor is charging head first and is hell bent on going down for a penalty. His cheating didn't work this time thanks to Michael Collins who doesn't get much praise from Meath supporters. Another Ref just might have given a penalty. It's easy to see what a ref did wrong and he didn't get everything right however let's give him some credit when he gets it right. Also some posters on this page said that the throw in which led to our goal should have been a free out. Well look again it should have been a free in.

Can i ask all knowledgeable meath fans (ardri, Ziggy etc) did anyone really expect this yesterday , i attended the first 2 games in carlow and tullamore and i was very surprised what i saw yesterday , i don't attend club games as i live abroad now, but i constantly get told the standard of senior club football is not up to scratch when I'm home , 3 months ago the forums were full posters stating we have no good underage structure, i think O'Rourke wrote about it in the Indo some time ago as well, yesterday proved we have talent, how good we actually are , we'll know after the Dublin game, it's like all of a sudden things aren't actually that bad, give credit to banty , i just hope yesterday wasn't a one off

Royaldunne expected it anyway! I went to Croke Park hoping for a performance, not thinking about result or the next game. Yes a lot more could be done with underage, could you imagine if we had proper structure, we could be some force. I went to all the league games and knew the team was not as bad as they played during it, its just a pity we will be playing in divison 3 next spring. Was impressed with Tobin in the league and we didn't see Carroll at all in the league, but he is some player. Alan Forde did a few things yesterday that showed his lack of experience. I hope Giles or someone can take him aside and give him a few tips because he has pace and is a great footballer and would be fantastic with a bit more guidance and experience. Sometimes he ran too far and lost it and he doesn't look up enough for players calling for it, but that will come. Having said that he did win a lot of frees for us and ultimately Kildare couldn't handle his pace.

It wasn't a TOTAL shock yesterday, it was in the back of my mind that they COULD do it, whether they would or not was another question. All I can say is well done to all.

Have to admit I did not see yesterday's performance coming. After attending almost all league and championship matches to date I went to Croker yesterday more in hope than expectation. But I have to say it was a pleasure to be there to witness such a performance and to make it all the better the manner of the performance. It was wonderful entertainment, football played the way it should be played not like the tripe on display in Clones the previous afternoon. Well done to all involved onwards and upwards..

it was great to see meath win by playing a good brand of football. kildare just havent got good footballers, they might have had fitness in recent years to get them over some teams but yesterday they were given a lesson in football. banty has to get credit, he used young lads to run at kildare , the likes of carroll, forde, etc were all excellent. meaths midfield won the game i think and won an awful lot of ball. i wonder what team he will pick for the final and if he will stick with the same team, personally i think he should if at all possible.

As one of his critics, I say congrats to Banty yesterday. I didn't see this coming and was delighted with the manner in which we dominated a fancied All Ireland contender. Not under any illusions where this will take us, and have not become a Banty convert, but credit where it's due. Great to be facing a Dubs side when their tails are up. We used to rain on their parade in the past so hopefully we can do it again.

Players were brilliant yesterday,at last now we have the best footballers on the team, young carroll would not have been playing only we drew against carlow,we needed a link man and we have it along with brilliant footballers.drawing game was exactly what we needed to open the managements eyes,we now can go and compete.dont forget boys it was banty who dropped 8 lads last year because they were under 6 foot, didnt want to know peader byrne either, whoever changed his mind needs a clap on the back.after yesterday we can all safely say that nobody will want to meet meath this year.

Well guess I'm not reasonable then? I saw it coming.
Your I'm prob older than most. What I saw was very good individual players who needed your be moulded into a team. The replay while been humiliating did that. Put a word of caution dublin will be different that I'm not as optimistic I'm sorry to say

Just a little side note on the game. I think mickey burke should be congratulated for his courage and dedication playing yesterday after the tragic death of his cousin peter burke whose funeral took place yesterday evening and burial this morning. A truly courageous act from the man and his performance in my opinion his best all year I hope was a tribute to his deceased cousin peter
