Room for Caoimhin King

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Banty rated King its just that Caomhin Kings style of play is sweeping in front of the full back line and kick passing out of the backs instead of bursting forward and hand passing, like what Tobin/Lenihan/Keoghan/Mcanarney do and Banty doesnt want them playing like that. He should have stayed on the panel though and worked hard as what if Kevin Reilly gets injured and we have to bring menton back to full back instead of making a direct swap, as he would have been the man I would have brought into that position if something happened to kevin. I think he is a brilliant player and he gave an exibition of centre back play in the county final

id like to ask a question,if meath were playing kerry tomorrow who would we put marking colm cooper?and dont say micky burke.thats the one thing meath are crying out for more then anything is a specialist corner back.someone like marc oshea or a young mark reilly.donnacha tobin imo is the best wing back meath have and should play there as hes a bit lose in the corner .caoimhin king is a much tighter marker then anyone else we have and i cant see how banty can leave him out.king and keoghan would be my corner backs with burke and tobin wingbacks

After been at the county finals last year king was the only player you could pick out of the thirty or so players on the pitch .. He was outstanding in both games ..

I heard from one of the players that Banty wanted to play King full forward after all the players he kept scoreless when playing there...

You do understand the concept of "dropped HIMSELF of the panel", dont you?

Both are a big loss for Meath, two very experienced players that would have been vital to a successful championship for Meath, cant see Meath winning any silverware this year, no offence to the current panel intended. experience is what any team needs to succeed. Definitely room for King, he's tenacious and a good reader , its a pity things have come to this

All we can hope is that Caomhin will change his mind or that there will be a reconciliation. Banty, should be doing his best to get him back to the squad, particularly cause he's still there by the skin of his teeth and this doesnt look good for him.

Guys where i accept that king is a decent footballer and worth his place on the panel is it not slightly arrogant of him to say well if im not going to get on the team im not prepared to be a panel member. management cant be held to ransom like that by players.

I think its slightly unfair to call him arrogant for not wanting to be a panel player. He has been a super servant of Meath for the best part of a decade. It is hard work training like that week in week out, if his heart is not in it, we should respect his decision. Caoimhin is a great guy on and off the pitch, I wouldnt begrudge him of this.

i think your been a bit harsh there.dont forget this is a team that got relegated and a player of his class & experience still couldnt get his place.can you blame him for walking away?

My opinion on the Caoimhin King situation would be: I can understand how Kingsy would be fierce disappointed in not starting on Sunday he had a decent league campaign and had lot of match time. I do welcome young blood and they have proven good Keogan was excellent and tobin was good too but they have got very little game time during the league and bang they start, Like Mark Collins has been injured all year. McAnarney is not a corner back. King of what i have encountered of him is a gentleman on and off the pitch and would be more than surprised at him to just walk because he wasn't playing. He didn't start last year and didn't walk so it makes me think there has to be more to it. I just hope we do not loose too many experienced lads because we need them as young lads will need experience to settle the ship especially if we get on to play kildare in Croker!! We have a lot of injuries and hate to see lads of Kings ability leaving the panel because we will need him.

Any other Meath manager would probably be starting King in the half-back line. I'm not crazy about him as a cornerback but he's never been cleaned out. Along with Menton he's the best alternative fullback we have to Reilly and against teams like Kildare who will play two fullforwards he's a good option against the high ball.

He's best suited to the halfback role though, sweeps up lots of ball, great eye for a pass but then this is not Banty's game. Last weekend you could see how mobile players like Forde, Keoghan and Tobin really suit Banty's tactics, great acceleration, always running into the space.

Wish he had stuck it out. An injury to Reilly, (touch wood), a game against Kildare or Dublin and we would really miss him

there has to be more to him dropping himself than meets the eye or why would he waste 5 or 6 years training on it?..
