Heard that Giles was back. He will be a temendous boost to the squad. He is worth 4-5 points to the team.

I'd say its more confusion. He prob heard giles helping meath or one of those headlines and assumed he came in as a player rather than a coach

Given JackL's history with posts relating to Meath in the past, Id say it was more of a sarcastic comment playing on the GG being brought fiasco.

Suppose our troubles making the headlines makes a change from when ye Roscommon lads were at it Jack. At least we kept our clothes on tho.

Does anyone know how fit Paddy Gilsenan is? Will he be available for the challenge game in Boardsmill on Monday?

For the obvious reasons I've been keeping a close eye on Wicklow football, and theres no doubt they have improved greatly over the past 2,3,or 4 years almost at the same rate as your lads (Meath) have been disimproving,I think your fall from grace began last year and now you find yourselves in Div.3, but low and behold, as soon as John Evans resigned his position as Tipperary manager Banty saw an ideal opportunity, signed up Johnny as his assistant so from now on things can only get better as we all know he is rated very highly, so who in your opinion would reap the rewards if Meath were to have a reasonably successful year, Banty or John Evans, oh by the way Jack L is a Kildare man.

yeah its an alright team but gillespie and menton wont be mid-field, because banty will surely have Ward and meade mid-field! in other words he doesnt have it to see that meade and gillespie should be mid-field! [we need menton center half back] and mc anarny on the wing so he can run up and down the pitch.

Mark Ward is injured and wont play against Wicklow.Brian Meade has in my opinion been poor all year and should not start at Midfeild.
Also Why do we need McInarney to "Run up and down the Pitch",He was player of the year at 6 Last year..
Lenihan and Tobin are more Natural wing backs anyway

Anyway what Team would you start againts Wicklow!!!

O'Brien's one of our best defenders and after the Tyrone and Louth debacles you can't claim that we have any form players. McGuinness in my opinion is better suited as a corner-back then King. Yes, Tobin would make a good corner-back too.

I really hope that John Evans tears up the playbook and reviews everything. Kickouts, put them out to the wings... Long ball into a 3 man FF line... Gilsenan, Kenny and perhaps Peadar Byrne as roving half-forwards... This is all on my wishlist.

and in your opinion do you think lenihan and tobin played well this year? because i dont, and i'm sure i'm not the only one thinking that! and we need mc anearny running up and down to get the ball into the forwards and to help them! and it's better then having mickey burke running up and down dropping and loosing the ball and then his marker open up in the forwards with no one on him!

Id agree with you re: John Evans anyway. Always admired him in the job he done with tipp and can only be an asset to the Meath set up at the moment. Im told he's still living in Kerry tho, so I dont how practical it is or how well it will work out.
On Wicklow, well they certainly will be full of confidence after their League campaign and have had a few very good championship results in recent years too so they will be expect to win this one with a bit to spare.

from there it will be a local derby with yourselves.

mcanarney has been in my opinion the loosest marker and most wasteful on the panel this year without doubt, he's galloped up field to kick it wide or miss a pass so many occasions, with college commitments lenihan hasn't played much and tobin has indeed made an impact on the team whens he played?

The logic behind McAnarney's selection at 6 is simply that when you play a very defensive system with numbers back having a centre-back who can spring forward and break with the ball quickly is a very effective way of counter-attacking. Donegal do this with Karl Lacey, Dublin have Ger Brennan, Tyrone use Peter Harte and Mayo have been using Donal Vaughan to great effect. All those teams, (with the exception of Dublin) play a running game and the centre-back is now crucial to that system.

Personally I would pick Menton or King at centre-back and get McAnarney wide on the right where he can lob the ball in on top of the full-forward but we have rarely used that tactic under Banty.
