Meath v Wicklow

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Ziggy I am only going on reports I have heard about A.Tormey this year I haven't seem play but he seems to playing with the club and getting some scores but maybe he isn't up to County standard I will know more after tomorrow night when I watch play against Summerhill in the championship and will also be interesting to to see D.Dalton playing again because i rate very highly and Ziggy I would agree with alot your team but I would not agree with C.Ward in centre foward he lacks the ball winning skils for this position but if he could imporve this area of his game I would probbaly like to see him here because he has all the other the skills to acheive the results in this position. I would have J.Sherdian or K.Reilly as captain seen that S.Kenny is on the bench and fineally i was at the Seneschalstown and Black Hall match last week and I watched B.Sherdian and I think that he is a good club footballer but lacks pace for Intercounty football unfortunely.

Meath have quite an average panel, not a top team in leinster anymore yet still stronger than Wicklow and Carlow, even with the performance against Louth, I can't see you losing either of those. They could also do you good as will give back some pride and confidence. Just cannot see ye beating Kildare in the semi-final.

True enough! Kildare are quiet magnificent , we don't have a chance!! True story

you've hardly put us to the sword in recent games? if meath aren't a major force a team as good as kildare should be able to beat us handily no?

i think kildare v meath if thats the semi will be a hard tough encounter for both teams and whoever wins this should go on and win the final after the hard challenge to win this semi..bascially the other side of the draw is an easier path and the kildare/meath semi will stand to that team in the final.so i would like if it was kildare/meath semi.
i think if kildare want to win this year they will have to up their game and put in solid 70 min performances kildare seem to have the more settled side now with the injuries of earley, lynch, peter kelly and mikey conway coming back into the fold and then the camp in portugal.so i would go for a kildare win but as i said a good right battle to the end.

Ziggy take your point re menton and perhaps he is a better option than mcananey @6. I also think there could be room for lennihan and carroll on team but our biggest problem is midfield. And hear we seem to have very little options.
Surely banty will have to get guys that will play the system he wants correctly if we are to have any hope. And within that I think we could see a few surprises in his selection. I have said many many times I am not a frequent goer to club matches in meath as I don't live there anymore. But is there any midfielder who is not on panel that should be given a call? I was at club finals 2 years ago and saw a blonde haired guy playing for ballinabrackey think he was quinn but not too sure, he was good that day. Anyone know him or others?

Again I say this and there is no real argument to back it up but I am more worried about wicklow than kildare!! I think if we can get over wicklow we will beat carlow. And should we meat kildare in semi I just have a feeling nothing more that kildare will have one eye on final believing that meath will not be a obstacle. On flip side meath know the could have and should have beaten kildare in navan. And what happened after could be linked to that night. There for this will be seen as redemption for players and management. Again no logic behind my argument just a feeling. We will see. But first things first get wicklow out of way.

Our biggest problem is a midfield two,but If you have Burke in the half-back line,Tobin and Byrne in the half-forward line, along with 2 midfielders,we have a better chance of winning possession in this area.

Lovlielillies.
This thread was started re: the upcoming Mhi opener against Wicklow - then you plug in with some partisan views on kildare?
Come back to crow to us after a couple of All-Irelands, actually don't bother, I'd say it would be excruciating

1 Gallagher
2 O'Brien
3 Reilly
4 Burke
5 Kenny
6 Menton
7 McAnarney
8 Meade
9 Walsh
10 Tobin
11 Bray
12 Reilly
13 Gilseanan
14 Sheridan
15 Ward
unlikely Shane O'Rourke will have the required fitness to start against Wicklow so with that in mind I have gone with the Meade/Walsh combination

Burke is not a corner back, he is far too loose

Mickey Burke is more half-back - was brilliant in 2010 v Laois in Tullamore in the back-door, until he was taken out by Laois.
Someone remind Mickey that he needs to strike the ball when handpassing- it cost us the first 3 points v Louth in Navan in the crucial opening minutes...

Lads a lot of football to be played before a semi comes up who knows what will happen Injuries etc can be a set back so why all get hot and bothered just take it one game at a time and try enjoy them. The Championship always throws up a few bannana Skins that cause upset in camps

More importantly somebody remind Banty that Burke is NOT a corner back

After watching DonaghmoreAshbourne last nite against Summerhill I think there a few more players along B.Menton and E.Reilly from the DonaghmoreAshourne that should be on the panel N.Farrell is by far the best foward i have seen playing club football this year a very talented lad and with a bit more fittness could very producive for Meath also looking at D.Morgan he would an option at midfield as he brillant last nite and ran the match from the middle of the park for Donaghmore and considering we are lacking quailty in both of these positions we could do with these lads on the panel and Summerhil out from the 2 Dalton brothers and C.Gillispe there would be no one else you would consider for the panel and also I think C.Ellis wold be worth a look at he is very pacey and good on the ball

Maybe Farrell had a good game last night, but I dont think he is good enough for county level. Where did Eoin Reilly play last night and how did he play? How did Gillespie and Davy play?

good move by banty to install trevor giles as forwards coach , serious backroom team there now with keague , giles , geraghty , mcelkenon and evans ..........disappointing that Shane O'Rourke is injured and now out for the season , hes been out a long time and this the third time that hes missed the whole season for meath , obviously a very injury prone player ........dont think mark ward will be a huge loss but it does decrease the midfiled options which are now down to meade , walsh , gillespie and potentially menton and peadar byrne which to me is lacking in real quality in the absence of orourke

In fairness to Banty he's doing his best to sort the current problems out.

He's brought Evans in.
He's got a forwards coach in Giles. I think this is a good move as Trevor will know the lads rather than bringing someone knew in.
He's brought back a few lads to strengthen the squad.

just watchin them on tg4. they've a few quality players alright. championship is a totally different mentality though, they might not have what it takes to beat a mediocre but seasoned meath side come the champo. at the same time they have absolutely to lose whilst it'll be squeaky bum time for our lads. two years ago i'd have comfortably put money on the royals but now?! Hannon, glynn and furlong could take some stoppin
