Meath v Wicklow

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

If anybody has been following my posts over the past few months I've always defended the Meath players, especially when the majority of our own fans were slating them because of poor performances. First of all I can guarantee that little if any Premier League soccer players goes out every Saturday after a league game, whoever said that is sadly deluded!!! I'm afraid that it's this 'ah sure what harm is a few pints for the lads after a championship game' attitude that has Meath miles behind other counties. Remember what Roy Keane said.......fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
Before anyone else starts having a go at me for being hard on the players, let me say this. I have the utmost respect for every single player on the Meath panel, I understand they dedicate 6, maybe 7 days a week to football. But if anyone has done any research into how the likes of Tyrone, Dublin, Kerry, and Cork prepare, it's all about Sports Science. Yes Meath teams of yester-year might have gone out after every Championship game on the beer, but if thats whats still going on, well then it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why were falling way behind other teams.

How can you fail to prepare by having a drink AFTER a match? Using premiership soccer players as an example is neither here nor there, we're talking about ordinary lads here, young lads at that. The secret to Tyrone, dublin's etc success is work done before these lads are even drinking age.

Having a couple of drinks after a match is no problem.
Getting hammered ANYTIME is a problem.
People in this country need to grow up.
Having a drink and getting drunk are not the same thing.
In most sports, if fixtures and training schedules permit it, players are allowed to relax and have a drink after a game.
They're treated like responsible adults.
I've no problem with players going for a couple of drinks after a game.
I have a BIG problem with players getting drunk after a game.

what are you on about? I'm not a new poster and my posts date back to last summer?

Thejoeshow- what are you on about ? I never said you were a new poster, I know you are not a new poster.

Your user name is relatively new however, like you said you introduced it sometime last summer, but you have been posting under different guises for a while.

Like I said old habits die hard.

Caoimhin King has left the panel, best defender gone. I know a couple of the younger lads on the panel and they seem to have a huge amount of respect for this guy. Dont blame him though if he wasnt picked, best player meath had against galway and kildare last year and in the few league matches i,ve seen and cant even get on team this year. 1 of the boys on the panel siad he couldnt believe king wasnt playin

Very happy to get a championship win after the miserable year we've had so far, albeit a very unspectacular performance over all. I can't understand why we didn't at least try a few decent high balls into Joe, I mean if we're going to mount an sort of challenge in Leinster this season then getting goals is a must and I can't see us getting them many other ways. Anyway well done to the lads, both Reilly's and Meade in particular deserve credit for the way they played and hopefully a few of the other lads can take a bit of heart from their performances and up their own game a bit for the next day.

Brian Meades best game ever in years. think the new lads are the way to go. Keoghan looks like he has serious pace,

You would have felt at half-time, given a strong enough breeze that we would score a goal or two second half for sure. But I think the lads were happy to pick off points as the chances presented themselves. Overall if Paddy Gilsenan and Stephen Bray were playing there is a far greater chance of both creating and scoring goals.

Htaem---disappointed not to see goals especially with new rule.

No better man than big joe to man mark a keeper. Expect route 1 in later games...
