More important things going on in the world than the demise of Meath football. We never had any hope of winning silverware this year as the current crop of players are not up to it. Relegation to Div 3 is not acceptable but chill out fella

Think of the current form as recession friendly with less games to buy tickets for and travel to during the summer.

You're right to be a worried man, in the past we would be expecting to beat Wicklow and Carlow (no disrespect intended but we would) and we'd see both potential games v Kildare and/or Dublin as at least 50/50 but but that will be completely irrelevant come may and we have to acknowledge the fact that we can't go into games expecting to beat teams anymore because we just don't have players to do it. Wicklow have all the advantages here, we're at a pretty low ebb and yet we'll still probably go in as favourites so they have nothing to lose, anyway it's a bit too early to call but there definitely shouldn't be anymore than a kick of a ball between the two at the end.

look lets put it into context a bit here lads, we were awful vs tyrone and louth thats a given but theres no way that meath will be that bad again with the current panel, the players will be hurting from this and know the abuse they have been getting and many read these forums, meath will come out come championship and put it up to anyone they face and we will all be there to support them 100% we had our few days bitching now lets focus on the positives in the panel

I think the fact that our nightmarish campaign has come to an end will provide some relief for the players and allow them to solely focus on the championship. I definately don't believe we are as bad as we perceive to be. No way would Louth have beaten us by 10 points at the start of the campaign and whatever rot has set in on the squad has been systemically debilitating. However, I think the management will try to wipe the slate clean and try and get the shape back for the championship and hopefully we might get a backlash from the Wicklow game. At this point I'd just like to see pride and passion for the jersey and everyone giving 100% regardless of the result because then at least I can truly say we're not good enough..

thejoeshow is correct.

MEATH FOR SAM ??

Meath will hammer Wicklow on their way to capturing a second Leinster title in two years, in the process they will put another (yes ANOTHER) 5 goals past Dublin in the final.

They'll probably only fall to Kerry in the All-Ireland final as no county outside of the top division is entitled to to win SAM.

Meath v Wicklow 27.5.2012 Carlow

Thats 7 weeks away!

If there is one thing I have learned about this current crop of meath players is they dont or never turn things around, and i mean never!

They are the same players who collapsed with a 10 point lead against wexford!

http://www.hoganstand.com/Dublin/MessagePage.aspx?PageNumber=0&TopicID=3317

They are the same players who had a 7 week break after the wexford game to get things right for the limerick game!

http://www.hoganstand.com/Forum/MessagePage.aspx?TopicID=5669

I know their is no real need to give links to old topics, but as young person i was not brought up on a diet of easter bunny, tooth fairy and that other great guy in the red suit who make peoples dreams come true not the great Peter Fitzpatrick but Santa Claus! What i am trying to say is sum people thought that meath were the only team that could beat kerry that time!

GlasagusOr made a point last week about this current crop of meath lads that they dont have a back bone and seem spoilt and more or less they wanted the game to be handed to them, how come other teams even very bad teams the likes of new york and london are motivated come championship....and everybody here and even the dogs on the street know that todays Meath team will throw in the towel at the Wicklow game!

You look at the Kidare team...do they ever smile?

Who the hell trains kildare is it Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from full meatal Jacket!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUc62jD-G0o

You have to admit for a county like kildare that never had much underage success for the last 20 years are doing very well,i would not call there players "great player" but i would call the Hard working and consistent!

If banty is going to stay on as meath manger(which i think he should go now) he would want to give Mark Ward,Chris O Conner, Cian Ward and Cormac Mc Guinness the long jump back to there clubs and stay at there clubs not that they dont have the ability just that they have the wrong dressing room attitude!

The only thing this meath team is good for is getting mangers the sack!

Thejoeshow,

I know what you said, but you implied Meath had two off days, you could be right, but I think the players Meath have are average at best, and that you have been punching above your weight for some time now. I also think Meath will find it difficult to make an impact on this years championship.

Too many supporters are and have been expecting too big of things from Meath, they do it with every Meath team, and it puts a lot of pressure on players and management to deliver. You need to ease off on your boys and accept them for what they are. It'll be hard but that's how it is, like it or lump it.

Meath are a division 3 side and that's a true reflection of where Meath are at.

Beating counties likes Louth should not be seen as a gimme anymore, but instead it should be seen as improvement, the sooner you realise this and accept it the earlier you'll start to enjoy going to watch Meath play football.

fair enough meath aren't at their best and maybe your right and more than likely you are, but two all ireland semis and a leinster final (won't mention the victory) suggests there has to be SOMETHING more than what they side has shown in recent weeks, I'm under no illusion meath won't make an impact on the championship in any major way but i don't accept this is a division 3 side, luck can only take you so far and meath have had more than a few big performances and results, they are in shambles at the moment without doubt and louth gave us a lesson but i have full faith this panel will be back, last two games we had the beating of kildare and people talk about them as top 5 in the country

What players do you know of that read these forums? I hope Banty and all the players read the forums because it might make them realise some of the pain that we've been going through. It might hopefully encourage them to play with a bit more pride!

Thejoeshow,

Louth beat Kildare 1-22 to 1-16 in Navan in 2010. People immediately said Kildare had an off day and/or Louth caught them cold or things to that effect.

Even though many people witnessed first hand a brilliant performance from Louth and a terrific game of football, not many people were prepared to give Louth the credit they deserved for fair and squarely beating one of the 'top teams' in the country.

So if Kildare is the bench mark then Louth are not far off being a top side, Louth's biggest problem is consistency, if we can become more consistent then we will be a handful for anyone.

I've no doubt Meath will be back but I believe the Meath manager is not the main reason for the position you find yourself in. Players need to take a lot of the responsibility for that IMO.

If Banty is not the main reason for the position we find ourselves in then the Meath County board is for appointing him. In my opinion a number of people need to do the right and resign. They are:

1. Banty.
2. The members of the county board.

Yes the players have some responsibility too. They can do like the Offaly hurlers of 1999 and say they won't play for him anymore. That would soon bring things to a head. However I wonder if they have the bottle. Haven't seen much of it on the pitch in recent weeks. McHugh is right they are gone soft. Would the team of Lyons Casells, McEntee an O'Rourke take this lying down and be forced to play this puke football.
