The Cills are not really a footballing area of Meath Sure every few years one tor two good players hit the radar and there again if one is to look into their roots they are not real locals and I guess that the Laytown Races and bit of golf and few pints are more to their liking

The population of Meath as a whole has grown by about 105k in less than 20 years that leaves AT LEAST 60% of the population "are not real locals" . Time to get over it

Clearly scarraboy wants a bit of a reaction and I'm guessing has a dislike for all things Cilles. WUM ALERT
But in all seriousness the reason we don't have success that reflects our huge catchment area is that there are too many Dubs who bring nothing to the club or community. If you look at the adult team theres more or less ZERO Dubs on it, they come down with a "Brit Abroad" kind of attitude, arrogance and hatred of anything not British (Dublin in our case) and even if they're GAA people they would rather not join a Meath club. The size of our catchment area is hugely deceptive.

Here's what we've done at underage over the last few years. Just off the top of my head.
2010
u-13 championship winners div1
u-14 league and championship winners div2
u-16 league winners div4
(u-21 'B' championship winners)

2011
Represented Meath at the Féile in Cork
u-14 championship runners up div1
u-14 league winners div1
u-16 league runners up div2
u-13 championship runners up div1

Not too bad. We have a big catchment area, but are not a huge club. A small population of the Dubs who moved here play for us. WE ARE A MEATH CLUB!

Think I've posted this before but the Dubs bashing is unfair in the Cilles. There's a lot of good people doing a lot of good work across the board at underage, there's sound structures in place and a very popular chairman in Oliver Kavanagh so things are on a steady keel. I think underage success will be consistent for us - good structures, a big population and a lot of hard working volunteers will ensure that. However, taking that step and translating it into adult - well that's complex and in what is effectively a whole new town that has sprung from nowhere - well unfortunately it will take time. Big doesn't guarantee success as evidenced by recent championship winning teams. Good luck to all the boys v Trim on Friday. I'll be home to see it. Don't expect anything this year but should be a good football match between two teams who like to play football.

As with all sports under aged activities surely have a lot of people involved doing wonderful jobs, most hoping that their own beloved kids will become champions but when their kids mature their skills are very limited because all the good hard honest workers have no footballing skills to pass on to these kids Under aged players need people with talents and skills to pass on to them and not developing teams of headless chickens

still early days yet, kells were in an identical position at this stage last year. longwood an st.michales the surprise packages so far, will be interesting to see if they are still going as well when the championship resumes. castletown seem quite poor for a team playing div 1 league, but they will improve.

Not surprised with Longwood at all, they were missing 4/5 first team central players last year, so they were always going to improve from last year. Michaels lost a few, but gained few young players. Their forwards are lightening quick, think they will do well, defence can be weak at times. Kells need few leaders in my opinion, seem to be very individual. Philip Ward is a big loss, time for Justin to show his county experience!Think ballinlough will travel well this year

Kells seemed to be low on confidence or complacent (not sure which!!), either way they didnt show up for first too games. Longwood are very fast and fit with a couple of very useful players and they could go far.

Intermediate Championship is so wide open its very hard to pick a winner You can make claims now for, Trim, Longwood, Ballinlough, St Michaels, Ballivor, Na Fianna, Ballinabrackey? Very hard to call...
