Replacing Eamon O'Brien - who should it be?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Interesting piece by Keith Barr. However, a dramatic change in personnel will have to come with a change of tactics. I mean, with players like Bray, Ward, Sheridan, O'Rourke plus Farrell and Queeney on the line, what other way are you going to play?

Having thought long and hard about the management situation i am pleased
to say i can recommend the perfect candidate to the county board
The former french coach raymond domenech is currently available and given
his ability to make a pigs ear out of a silk purse he will definetly suit the county
board down to the ground. Arrogant and aloof i wonder why no one has made
the connection before he is the perfect man for the management commitee

Having had a bit of time to think the situation over I've come to the conclusion that I'm happy EOB is gone. He has don great work but has definitely reached his limit and was shown up this year. For the last number of years I have felt that Meath football has been loyal to people just because of who or what they are. I feel that not giving EOB another year we send out the message that however good it was to win a Leinster, Meath football will not be happy until we are All Ireland Champions. It's the first sign of balls shown by Meath in a long number of years. I hope we get the right man who can bring us forward and WIN WIN WIN!

I could see Trevor Giles standing proudly at the bottom of the Hogan stand on the second Sunday in September sometime in the future...

Meath need a good Young and Energetic managr someone that will lift them up when their 2/3 points down with 5 mins to go like the old days.. In the Kildare game this year after 55mins everyone knew Meath were beaten where as years ago you'd never rule out a comeback...

Whoever gets it needs 3 years and choice of his own selectors. He or one of his selectors should be givin the u21 job aswell. We need a link beetween our underage teams right down the ranks.

Ever hear of the saying "too many cooks spoil the broth"?

While that backroom team would have the required expertise, knowledge and wherewithall, there would nearly be as big a backroom team as players on the pitch!

Well Lads, I can tell you that Eamonn O Brien could be back in charge if he wants to be. A good lot of clubs never had a meetin between themselves to discuss wat way they were voting and their representatives just voted on their own accord at the county board meeting. They will be be putting EOB on their nomination slips to reinstate him.

Colm o rourke has to be a cert for the job, his experience with st.pats school and the meath minors make him the perfect man for the job , throw in gerry mcentee and trevor giles as selectors and we have new management !!!!

Meathlady93....has coached a secondary school team and has been a failure coaching at intercounty underage level. How does that make him the perfect man for the job?

Can people please understand that good players do not necessarily make good managers.

Just a thought. Several posters have mentioned that club delegates did not consult their clubs before voting Eamon O' Brien out. Their obvious implication is that they would have voted to leave him in place and give him another year.
However, how many of the delegates who voted IN FAVOUR of O'Brien actually consulted their clubs. Who is to say that their wouldn't have been an even bigger backlash against him if the clubs had been consulted?
As I said, just a thought

Yeah AFB, but with it being a secret ballot, there is no way of knowing if clubs' wishes were carried out. Let's say I get mandate from my club to keep EOB on, but I decide I personally want him out, with a secret ballot I can vote whatever way I want and no one is any the wiser.

Meath 21/09/2010 14:42 Eamon Barry for Meath Manager......... What are peoples views on this. Personally I think it would be a bad move. He proved a controversial manager the first time around so why would he even consider it a second time. I remember when we played Wexford in Croker when he was manager. That day we left Mattie Forde as a free man in the 2nd half that day. This wasn't the Mattie Forde of this year, it was the Mattie Forde at the height of his powers. I also recall going to some league matches where he was whipping players off if they didn't implement his short handpassing game.

In my opinion, Eamon Barry would be a further step backwards.... I remember his first stint and to be honest I wasn't impressed. We were very lucky to beat a poor Louth team in his first Championship match and got well beaten by Mattie Forde(I mean Wexford) In the back door we were beaten by Laois in Navan, a game we should have won....
