Paddy Carr will undoubtedly throw his cv into the ring, and with an All Ireland club under his belt it will be stronger than most from within the county.
I'd say it'll be a cold day in hell before we appoint from outside the county (we all know why that is).

Get in Gerry McEntee as manager, bring back Tommy Dowd as selector along with Liam Harnan. Instill the mentality of the Meath teams of the past and become absolutely ruthless.

Thankfully Tommy Lyons is too busy with his numerous business interests to be interested I would have thought

damian sheridan is the only man who could maybe do anything with this squad, look at what he done in seneschalstown, took a club going nowhere brought through alot of under 21's and transformed it to win 2 senior championships in 3 years and possibly a 3rd this year, do i believe he'll get, not a chance.

This is a really tough decision folks, meath football has been in transition for some time now.Maybe the last few years have flattered us in a way,are we really that good?but then again are we really that poor?I dont think we are a poor team,we just need a new modern manager with fresh ideas, remember when Boylan took over, his training ideas were perceived as ''wacky'' but evidence has proved he was actually ahead of his time.I personally would like to see a former Boylan player from the 80's get it,Fino Murtagh.I was lucky enought to be trained by Fino few years back and he's a very honest man,not afraid to make tough decisions and also use's his bench, and that includes his goalkeepers(for all those who debate who our keeper should be),countless times he gave our 2nd choice keeper game time to keep him motivtaed and interested,a sign of a man who's in touch with his players.I feel a management team of Fino and Damien Sheridan would work wonders, will it happen?I doubt it.

Sean Kelly as manager Sean Barry, Damien Sherdian as selectors these lads have proved what they can do over the last number of years.

Will the CB look outside the county with the real intention of actually hiring someone or will they do their usual trick of interviewing lads just to look like they're doing something.

They'll probably hire someone from Meath so candidites at the moment would be.

Damien Sheridan (Would he go for it given he could have 3 sons on the panel and possibly nephews as well? )
Sean Kelly (Would of left the "books" for another year if he'd known what would happen last night)
Gerry McEntee
Graham Geraghty
Darren Fay

Jesus that's a sorry list.

McEntee - no chance with work.
Geraghty - stop the lights.
Fay - not a bit of it.
Kelly - give me one reason why.

Damien Sheridan is the only one of those five who merits consideration. Having sons on the panel didn't affect Paidi back in the day or Peter Fitzpatrick this year. He might actually know how to get the best out of Joe and Brian too, unlike EOB.

Others:

Tony Kearney is a Mayo man. Forget it.
Paddy Carr - no way, has been linked with the job every time it is up for grabs.
Colm O'Rourke - made some job of the biggest club in the county.

My own preference would be for Kernan or Banty.

For Kernan - forget about Galway, he was flying over, never practical. He loves Meath football and all it stands for, and is only an hour up the road.
For Banty - worked wonders with a limited Monaghan side and would surely improve our boys. They'd be fit at least if he could bring Grimley with him.

I'm afeared, though, the Meath Co Board won't put their hands in their pockets. So we'll be left with someone who'll do it for nowt.

And that rules out anybody who's any good.

people stop calling for Gerry McEntee and Darren Fay. Great players but remember Gerry isnt a proven manager, ie thats what we need. Darren has only 2 years experience in management, one with Nobber and the other with Trim. Not much achieved there. My dream team would be a Sean Kelly/Dudley Farrell/ Sean Barry combination. These were sucessful when manager of our minors, and anyone that played under both Sean and Dudley have nothing only praise for them.

is this a wind up, sean kelly as manager and damian sheridan his selector, come on now, it should be more like sheridan manager and kelly selector

i would give Donal Curtis a crack of the whip. He has a winning mentality and look at the belief he has brought to Rathkenny this year. any comments?

There are no stand out candidates within the county. I can't see the problem with looking outside - we must do whatever it takes to get the right man. The county board top brass should realise this and swallow their pride. My original choice was Pete McGrath or Joe Kernan but since then Seamus McEananey has become available and I would definitely take a look at him. He is a no-nonsense manager and brought Monaghan on leaps and bounds in the last six years. Stay well away from Mick O'Dwyer. Let him go to Mayo or anywhere else he wants.

Bit of a mess really, any new manager will realisitically see no club championship games this year as they won't be appointed quickly probably, which means no winter schedule depending on the speed of the county board. I wrote here after Kildare game how continuity was needed in regards to trainin and gym work and that is not going to happen. Thanks to Eamon, and the selection panel for the work they did, a Leinster title was much desired in this county and we got it this year no matter what anyone says.

Now, as to the contenders, I don't know about O'Rourke, made a hash of two under 21 teams, and from being at these games, did very little on the line himself as regards getting the team going. As regards club managers or candidates as opposed to those already mentioned, here are a few more names to throw into the mix.
Liam Harnan has done a great job with Skryne. Pat Coyle, minor manager that won Leinster in 2008, Andy McEntee from Don/Ash, done a good job there and a strict disciplinarian and very motivated by all accounts, Dudley Farrell, minor manager that won in 2006, Benny Reddy. These people are involved in Meath GAA and would know a lot of the players already.

I agree completely with the fact that a manager has to be appointed instantly for the Meath job. If it isnt done right now this week (its even to late already in my opinion) the new man would have to run more trials over the winter to see who he would select.

My father mentioned a name and i nearly died laughing this mroning but it actually might not be a bad idea. What about Paul Caffrey with Curtis and Giles as selectors and Colm Brady as trainer?

Why do people think previous experience is so important? Kieran McGeeney and Kevin Walsh have both proved that knowledge of playing the game itself is probably more important than having actually managed a team. Both of them have brought their respective sides on big time despite their lack of managerial experience.
