Fermanagh v Cavan

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

There's no such thing as a mickey mouse cup, if you call something a mickey mouse cup then you must also believe the players who play in them are mickey mouse players.

ANYWAY

Don't hi-jack this thread, I intended it to focus on Fermanagh v Cavan not Lorcan Mulvey or what players have won in the past. We have our work cut out for us, our biggest threat in this game believe it or not will be complacency after beating Armagh. In the past we've tended to go ballistic if we win a game, only to be let down in the next game. I hear Givney saying they don't fear anyone. I hope for his sake, and for mine as a loyal fan that he doesn't end up with egg on his face!

Fermanagh are at about the same level as us so i think it will be a tight game.

Seargent, I dont think David is being complacent or arrogant. I feel that with the new breed of players that have come up from our underage teams in the last 3 years, and remember they have all been winners in a strong Province, these lads fear nobody. Of course they will respect every team but for far too long we have been in awe of the big teams like Tyrone, Armagh, Down and Donegal. We got into a losing mentality but we have exorcised that and we expect now to win games.
Still the Fermanagh game will be very tough and as you said if the attitude isent right on the day we will be in trouble.
Talking about Givney, he was a bit off colour in his ball winning ability the last day but expect a much improved display. It must be remembered he ploughed a lone furrow in that game even though Damian Reilly worked tirelessly as well. Expect Mossy Corr to slot back in there and ease the burden on David.
The Fermanaghs game is based on a lot of handpasiing and running from deep so we will have to counteract that. Expect a few different options or game- plans from Terry as I dont think we will play into their hands. Both managers will be conscious of what happened in Breffni in the League so expect a few changes.
Looking forward to the big G8 game already!!

Having read this piece I can't applaud this young man enough for his bravery on telling his story . It is very worrying to think of the misery that these young amateur sportsmen are being put through and the lack of support there is for them. It has also made me think about how stupid and wrong it is to comment about any of them so I for one will not be posting anymore.

I'm with you on that up4t and fair play for highlighting it.

Alan O'Mara deserves great credit for coming out like that and telling it like it is.
It's bound to help a lot of young people who are in a bad place whether they are GAA
people or not.

It will definitely help all of us on this forum to cop ourselves on and keep personal abuse out
of it.

Agree entirely. Read the full article in the Sunday Indo last weekend and was very impressed with Alan's courage and bravery in highlighting a problem that we tended to sweep under the carpet in the past. With the collapse of the old Tiger as well as the pressures that are on modern day players it is wonderful to see a very articulate, intelligent young man highlight these huge issues for all to see. Well done Alan we are all proud of you both as a player and a person.

Also great to see our Juniors beating Louth last night in what I hear was a close tough game. And Alan made his comeback after his arm injury also.
Another step in building up the counties morale and winning mentality. Young players gain confidence and it is a great stepping stone for the Senior team. Keep up the good work. Winning is a good habit to get into!!!!

Anyone know the team? Must have changed it completely at half time, seemed to be well on top in the first half, maybe he gave the juniors a run second half. Mayo team up on twitter, can't find the Cavan team anywhere. Mayo had about 7 or 8 regulars starting, then a few fringe players making up the numbers. Andy Moran with 2 goals, he's back and he's loving it.

Mayo v Cavan
Was at the game lads, live locally (enniscrone) and the boys were actually on the beach after. Was talking to Graroid McKiernan, he was saying the boys are very confident of beating Fermanagh. Final score today Mayo 5 -13 Cavan 0 - 16pts. Don't be alarmed it was the proverbial game of two halves ! Cavan were actually leading at half time by 0 -10 to 1 - 5. Cavan made 15 changes at half time and let in two soft goals early in the 2nd half. Cavan were very competitive in the first half and I was well impressed with them. The team that played in the first half would be something near the starting 15. Young McKiernan from Killeshandra was very good as was Jack Brady, Mackey, Martin Reilly and most of the backs. Mayo walked through the cavan defence in the second half for some easy goals but I wouldn't be that concerned as a lot of them boys will hardly be starting against Fermanagh. Cavan also could have got at least three goals themselves, Martin Dunne missed a sitter in the first half when it looked easier to score, Barry Reilly blasted one against the crossbar and Keating went very close as well - massive save from Kenneth O'Malley. I'd say the main concern for most cavan folk would be still midfield. That could be problematic down the line if we progress in Ulster.
One interesting thing in the first half the goalie (think it was O'Mara) (it wasn't Gilsenan anyway) was taking short kick outs and they were working a treat ! James Reilly came on in the second half and every kick out was pumped straight down the middle down the throat of "man mountain" Aidan O'Shea ! very strange ! !
Anyways overall a great workout for the cavan boys, we all know Fermanagh aren't anywhere near the standard of Mayo. Mayo are well up there - Joe Brolly seems to think a lot of them and he doesn't be that far off the mark ! Roll on Sunday June 16th and Brewster Park will be burstin at the seams ! !

Mayo v Cavan
Oh yeah and David Givney came on as well. Couldn't get into the game at all and I was wondering was there something wrong with him ?
Asked one of the team mentors outside the dressing room after and he said he had a chest infection so he probably shouldn't have even togged out !
McEnroe didn't appear either, think he has an ankle injury and I don't know if Mossy Corr will make the Fermanagh game either !

Very impressed today with Dec Mc Kiernan, has to be considered for Fermanagh game. Jason Mc Loughlin also excellent but full back line very exposed in 2nd half Due to poor kick outs and weak down the middle put them under fierce pressure. Would have liked to see Kilian Clarke at midfield instead. Very good challenge inspite of high score difference and will surely stand to Cavan.

Declan was a very strong performer during last year's successful Leinster Junior campaign. Another endorsement of the value of this competition to Cavan. Can't understand why the Ulster Council ignore it.
