Cavan v Armagh SFC

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

There's a lot of comment about Terry Hyland in this discussion. People who claim to know a lot about him say that he always tries to get the most knowledgeable selectors around him and gives them far more important roles in setting up the team than that most managers do. There may be a truth in this. Look at the pedigree of most of the U-21 and Senior selectors.

He managed the U-21s to 3 consecutive Ulster Finals and his selectors in 2010/11/12 were for the most part experienced former county senior players with Provincial medals at U-21 and/or Senior level. Then he moved over to the Senior Management and his previous selector Peter Reilly brought another Ulster U-21 title home this year. Many neutrals thought Cavan gave Donegal a much better test last year and in fairness they did have a few great performances in this years league - way ahead of anything we saw last year. OK maybe there was a bit of needle in the Monaghan match but it was a good performance and in Navan it was a game of hard fast football with good hard knocks and no whingeing or diving on either side. The one common factor to all this is Terry Hyland so he must be doing something right. Sunday will tell us more about that and Armagh are a good championship team. We'll know more about whether or not we're championship material around 4 o'clock on Sunday evening. Best of luck to the lads - there won't be any lack of commitment or pride in the jersey.

Redisc happy neither our Celtics men on the team Mc Cutcheon and Hayes are as good as all 6 starting backs and better than most of them . But anyway maybe they'll get a run the next day. Cavan need a win so we just have to get behind the lads thats on

have no problem with either hayes or mcCutchion in general but neither has been that consistant this year and i think your way off the mark that they are better then all the backs named, not sure what games you have been watching instead of sour grapes would you not now at this late stage get behind the team named and wish these lads well .

Looks like there is a fair amount of negativity following Cavan around as usual, but regardless of anything else I do not think the players should be criticised when they are giving up their lives to play county senior football in the championship. All of the Cavan players will give everything they have regardless of their ability.I cannot see us getting the scores tomorrow as Keating will never perform again like he did last year and Martin Dunne will be swept to one side by a man marker with a bit of pace and power. But because of Terry tactics we will keep the score down to a respectable one.

Stefan Forker- 'turning up won't be enough'; McKeever- we're not looking past Cavan'. Sounds like Armagh are struggling to motivate themselves. Look at their team on paper, and what they've actually done in league and championship football in the last couple of seasons; where has this assumption of superiority come from?

Terry Hyland should not give them too much credit and go in with an over-negative gameplan, that would be a self-imposed admission of weakness. A win is there for Cavan if they attack Armagh from the start.

I hope that shuts up the geniuses on here. These lads have backbone. The Cavan of old would have capitulated when a point was in it.

Great day for Terry and the panel. Well done lads.

Great result for the lads, well done, some great individual performances from keating, two flangans, two dunnes and McEnroe but overall a good work ethic and honesty of effort from everyone. Midfield was a struggle all day it has to be said. One month to the Fermanagh, hopefully all injuries clear up and no further ones come to the fore as we will need a full strength team for Fermanagh.
