Total Football : couldn't agree more.. Was going too write back too jime14 myself asking him the same question , then decided if he wrote it in the 1st place he wasn't worth writing back too.. Hard Times : I quite like the look off millhouses half back line.. I'm not here too slate Flanagan I just don't think he's ready is all.. Too add too millhouses team I think I'd put M Reilly too WHF and as for Corner forward I'd say jack Brady but open too be corrected on that..

Charlie Vernon out for Armagh with a broken foot. Evens up the odds a bit.

Agree with Total Football & Cavanman 10.
Any day we can start without an Ulster midfielder is a good one - but that day hasn't come
to Cavan yet.

Flanagan is a good footballer but just not ready- he should make it no problem later on.
Charlie Vernon is a big loss for Armagh - on par with G McK. for us. Should be a great game.

jack and martin are the natural choices to the team i named but i would like would like 2 players who are a little stronger, martin dunne is the only light lad i would have in the forwards if that could be helped. we have just been outmuscled so many times in ulster in the past few years. as for jimes team....thats a one way ticket to the back door

I hear ya cavanman but we'll have to agree to disagree . Regarding no.6 and 7 , I'm very surprised people going with different options other than Alan Clarke and Damien O'Reilly . From the McKenna cup and league games played I thought these two would be nailed on .
On a seperate note what is the story with Niall Smith?

yep, if either was picked they would be fine, i would love to see mc keever at wing back as i think its his best position, and can drive cavan forward from there. why i would pick declan mc kiernan is, the range of passing he has puts him ahead of clarke. armagh will undoubtedly clog up their half back line with a corner forward or something, and mc kiernans long range kick passing would by pass the traffic. that, or i would play keating in his best position, which is no 6. it doesnt matter though as hyland will do neither

1.Conor Gilsenan (can vary kickouts, unlike james Reilly)
2. Jason McLoughlin (marking jamie clarke)
3. Killian Clarke (will need to improve from u21 performances) /Rory dunne
4. Ronan Flanagan (mobile) / Damien Barkey
5. James Mcenroe (strong bursting out with ball) I know he was poor v roscommon but who wasnt? If not, Feargal Flanagan.
6. Alan Clarke (strong, leader)
7. Damian Reilly (will need to be more disciplined)
8. Thomas Corr (savage work rate)
9. David Givney (back where he belongs)
10. Cian Mackey (Having a great year, performances have slacked since meath game though)
11. Jack Brady (if fit, i hear he is a major doubt with a foot injury?) / Chris Conroy
12. Mark McKeever (intelligent)
13. Martin Dunne (poacher)
14. Eugene Keating (strong, needs to lay it off more, it will make him harder to mark and less predictable for defenders)
15. Kevin Meehan/Dara Mcveety/Turloch Mooney (we need to employ a sweeper IMO with an armagh forward line with jamie clarke.)

That would be my team, plenty of pace and power round half back/forward line, and all good workers. We will need to employ a sweeper, jamie clarke is an unreal talent and we need to keep him quiet. I have heard mcveety is in with seniors? This is good, he is a little terrier who knows where to be at the right times. Jack Brady i believe is carrying an injury and may not be back. If we stop their crossmaglen style of play and slow them down, i believe we have the players to beat them, especially with how strong our panel is. An Cabhan Abu.

Think Alan O Mara is our best keeper by a stretch. Other 2 tend to make one blooper every game, James against Ferm and Gilsenan in S/finals last 2 yrs. Alan safe as houses. Rory Dunne or McEnroe at f/back as Killian is still a bit raw.
John McCutcheon will be pushing for a starting slot as will Martin Reilly in the forwards. Otherwise agree with most of your picks.
Any word on our best wing forward Niall Smith? Is he in the squad or is he away?
Armagh beatable if we play with the right attitude and intensity!!

Whatever chance we had was with mckiernan but that is not now going to happen, people are unrealistic and need to get real, the reality is as much as it pains me to say it, as i have been at all the games this year including the dr.mckenna we are on a par with Antrim as the worst team in Ulster. We are where we are, we have improved since lst year but then most other teams have also, we bet meath and monaghan but back then we were probably as fit as we are going to be and had our best team available, if we played monaghan or meath tomorrow it would be a different story. We bet armagh back in january but i left that game thinking at least a dozen of the cavan team will be playing in may where as i could only count 4 maybe 5 that will be playing for armagh in my opinion. We were far fitter than armagh that night also but we only bet them by 3 points so i dont hold out much hope of us beating armagh, what im looking for is pride in the jersey and an honest work ethic from everyone and see how we get on and that itself will be an improvement on last year and the roscommon game. People need to be patient and realistic with this team, we have some fine young footballers with potiental but realistically it could be another 3/4/5 years before they can make an impact at senior level. The average age of the team against armagh will be probably be around 22/23 at most. wait until there 26/27 in their prime.

exactly, we have been playing at championship pace throughout the league, all the weaker team do, whereas the stronger teams will be able to go up a level or two. a bit of a run in the qualifiers if the draw is favourable is prob best we can hope for.

What about the Sligo game when Alan had a moment to forget. I would go with Conor. Has more distance than Alan and can vary his kickout to.

Goalkeeper is a problem position without a doubt, but I've seen all three in action this year and I'd go with James Reilly. Least accident prone imo.

Talkin bout playing Mc Veety as a sweeper is madness he's a grand wee player but throwing him in to that role so young could be wrong and IMO could destroy hiim, he needs time to bed in and develop to senior level , he could do this very well with a spell in Leinster junior champ team. Killian Clarke is another young footballer doin too much too soon IMO should not have been put straight into senior team last year, he was pushed too quick and it hasn't helped him. Of the 21s Mc Loughlin is the most likely to be up to man marking Jamie Clarke, but I would prefer to see Jason free to set up attacks , other than him possibly Brady, Hayes or Damian Reilly as man markers, Hayes did well last year markin Johnny Doyle in the qualifiers and Brady is a very tight marker. Whoever does it will need to be very fast, fit and able to tackle without fouling. Very surprised O Connor not called up to senior, think he had more to offer the panel than Mc Veety.

Fair enough but Alan played all the way to an All Irl Final and was playing very well until the Sligo blip. Remember all his competitors make one error nearly every game.Saw him in the Monaghan and Meath games where we played very well and he was hitting our midfielders every time. His kick outs have also improved. I think Mc Vitty is a great talent but it is a bit too soon yet. Surprised Paul O Connor dident get a call!!

Gaelsutd, I don't think he was on the Donegal panel. He wasn't even on the Four Masters first team cos of Paul Durcan!!
