Im suprised there has not been a thread started about John Morrisons coming to Cavan for 2012. Here we have one of the most colourful "never a dull moment" coaches throwing in his lot with Andrews and Co. for the coming year. His legendary coaching methods are known far and wide after his spells in Donegal, Derry, Mayo, Leitrim. Tales such as.... giving the Donegal players a nut from Brazil and then telling them to go out and play like Brazil.....to sending the Mayo players Valentine Cards in 2006 with the words "with love from Sam" on them are known far and wide... He claims to have taught Paul McGrane of Armagh to catch a ball using balloons... He is known for bringing rubbish skips on training sessions for players to emty their negative thoughts... The stories are Ledgendary.. How will Cavan react to him? He is an 'in your face' coach and not everybodys cup of tea... Andrews has just got total control and then takes Morrison in to lose all that control again... strange that.. Morisson does not sit quietly in the background.. He is the show! So what is going to give way first?.. Because something will have to give,, Will it be mass walkouts by so called star players when Morrison starts cutting them down to size? Will Andrews, Hyland and King cope with the "no show without John" type attitude? One thing is there will be fireworks..Cavan players and supporters will never have seen the like of someone like Morrison in action.. Roll on January!

Ha ha, stories alright. Would he not be better judged by the amount of silver he has landed. That's all that counts at the end of the year. Not his nuts.

It is good to see that they are bringing in someone to deal with the issue of attitude, and under-performance, I will be very interested to see how he deals with "super-star egos". How come he is only been brought into the set-up now?

Speaking to 2 Donegal lads that trained under him..1 reckoned he was the best coach he trained under.. The other lad disagreed 100%...So it seems there no inbetween ..Players either respect his methods or they dont.. No half measures it seems..

This man sounds like just the thing we need. Now just ship out the deadwood i.e 75% of this years panel, and blood the youngsters, its the only option because if we've learned one thing from the past 4 years its that we will win absolutely NOTHING with the likes of Keating, Johnson, Mackey, Flanagan etc.

"Blood the youngsters". Mackey Keating and Flange are all in or around 23 years old. Exactly how young do you want to go ned!? Will we just go ahead and play the entire U-21 squad in the senior competitions sure?!

So will Morrison begin with a wholesale clearout of the "Deadwood"? If so which players will be kept and which will be thanked for their contribution over the past couple of seasons and not invited back in? Will it be a case of build a new team around seanie johnson (and I quote the newspaper article, as Johnson is the only player that John Morrison referenced by name) or will Johnson be one not asked back in?

I Think everybody will get a fair chance to prove themselves .Reading through the lines of his article in the Celt it seems he planning to have players being more switched on about what they are suppose to be doing. He seems to be brought in to work on the mental side of things.. I was expecting a more hands on coach on the footballing /tactical side of things.. We need someone on the tactical side badly.. The Management got the Team secection and the tactics(2 sweepers) totaly wrong against Donegal,..a game we had 6 months to prepare for...Shows they wouldnt cope with a qualifer draw every 2 weeks.. Morrison is im told a very "in your face coach".. some players need that but not everyone likes that kind of attutide.. It will be interesting to how things work out.. Andrews has just been appointed sole Manager then brings in Morrison so the sole Manager thing wont mean nothing because Morrison will have a bigger imput in team affairs than Hyland had... I feel Andrews is the bluffer in all of this.. He could have had Morrison last year because he was free.. He choose a joint management with Hyland... Then he wanted full control.. He got that.. then gave that away bringing in Morrison..

The talk on the forums a while back was that the Under 21's han someone working on the mental side of things with them, and that it worked for them. Was it Morrison who worked with them? I agree that if Morrison is working on the mental side of things that Andrews should be bringing in a football head, for coaching and tactics. here is a curious thing...if Morrison is going to be taking the lion share of the mental work, will be head coach as well (as said in the celt), and be designing the training sessions (also Celt) and we assume tactical approach...what will Val Andrews be doing? Will he like Hyland become a selector?

Well Val wanted total control and when Hyland dropped back to being a selector Val got control.. But now it seems he has given all that control away with Morrison coming on Board.. Morrison has worked in a joint capacity with Mickey Moran at Donegal ,Mayo and Letrim .. But he was free last year so why didn't Val bring him in then.. ?Andrews seems to be making the plan up as he goes along and moving the goalposts when it suits him.. This negativity was plain to be seen amongst the senior team this year.. Maybe Morrison is what Cavan need.. I'm still not sure about Andrews.. He did nothing last year.. Didn't even find 1 player..

No it was Harrison who worked with them

He didn't bring Harrison into the set up last year, and now he is bringing in Morrison to do the job that Harrison did with the under 21's.
I hope for the sake of Cavan football that it will work out for the best, however, richiej I do think that it seems strange to complain about not having total control and then bring in a personality like John Morrison.

I think Morrison acts more like a joint manager .. At least he did in his time with Micky Moran at Donegal,Mayo and Letrim.. Therefore it's hard to understand him Coming to Cavan when Andrews wanted control himself.. So in that respect he is kind of different to Harrison.. Morrison is a big fan of one to one coaching.. He will make time for every single player.. Whether he can get them to gel together is another matter.. Things on the playing field can't get any worse at senior level I think but we said that when Carr left.. But they got worse.. We have to target promotion in order to raise the standard of opposition .. Only then will we improve.. The u21 have to be used wisely. Maybe we will unearth a few more from the championships that wernt involved last year.. Hopefully we can get a coach on board to work with the defence.. It's been our main problem this past few years.. Average teams like Longford seem to drag our defence all over the place..

Folks, it we were to turn the clock back to Val's first term as Cavan manager you will find that when it came to selecting a trainer he was not found wanting. If Val is happy to bring John into the set up then what's the problem! Would people be happy if Val had total control and appointed a dud as trainer?
If Cavan don't succeed in 2012 it won't be John's fault.

This could go either way. John's an amazing character and brings a lot of fun to team preparation. However he can be hard to understand at times and I can see his message going over the heads of some of our lads. It will be colourful though, guaranteed. I welcome his arrival. Val knows him well enough to judge the value of his input. He has developed a lot of good players.
