Drumgoon were best team overall, a lot of Gaels players didn't perform on the day. Referee was dodgy to say the least, especially in the first half. Johnston only came on for the last 20 mins v Drumgoon. He could have been started but wasn't. Gaels re-graded their players so all are entitled to play intermediate if they don't play senior. Johnston was used as a blood sub as signalled by Joe McQuillan for Walsh who cut his hand. Blood subs don't count as full substitutions. This is a national rule not a Cavan rule. Drumgoon brought on Conor Moynagh at half time which shouldn't have happened as the game went ahead on their insistance that he wouldn't be used. If the Gaels 4 County Minors had been available to them the chances are they would have been used instead of Johnston. It was a good game with some great scores and the best team on the day won. Denn man is right there are far more important talking points in the championship than who plays for the Gaels intermediate team. Anyway Gaels won't win the intermediate championship they'll lose too many players to the senior team over the coming weeks, and they are only in the intermediate championship because the Junior clubs won't allow them to play in the Junior Championship. They can't even be relegated back down to Junior because of a pointed motion from Maghera at County Convention last year, which is very unfair on all the other clubs in the intermediate championship. One club, one team. That should be the rule for championship. Sure how on earth would the likes of Maghera, Corlough, Templeport etc be able to compete with a team like the Gaels? They have the county capital to pick from, a population 9 or 10 times that of regions like I outlined above. In the interests of fair play, the Gaels second team should only be allowed compete in the league. Sergeant_Slash (Cavan) - Posts: 2182 - 26/07/2011 18:05:18 996136 Link 0 |

Cootehill won 12 to 1-5. Poor Game. Lots of aimless kicking & not much game plan illustrated by either team. Ritz (None) - Posts: 199 - 29/07/2011 12:54:48 998160 Link 0 |

Drumgoon or Ballyhaise won't be loosing sleep over Cootehill. I think your right there, Cootehill have a fella on the bench for them at the minute only came back this year "Kelan Mc Carney", classy footballer on his day. Scored about 1-7 from half back this year with the juniors, he is now pushing onto the senior team I hear. If he comes back that leaves Cootehill with alot of classy backs all of which are capable of scoring and bombing forward with the likes of Josh Hayes who really should be a county footballer. I think this year's championship is far from over and I can see a team like Swad that can cause plenty of upsets along the way winning it.
