Dont know about Killeshandra for the champ, they are missing too many players I think. Knockbride could be dark horses, but id say cootehill will bounce back and make it out of the group.

Whats going on with Bailieboro, second from Bottom in Division 2 and after getting hammered by Drung in the first round of the Intermediate? They got to the semi final last year but this year they look like a poor junior team.

Holdonasecond .. Not turning this into a Gaels talk like a lot of threads turn into just saying it was bad form the Gaels bringing in their best player and County Captain into a an Intermediate Champo game.. Typical of them showing what they are truly like.

Gaels are well within their rights to do what they want once they are not breaking any rules. And great that them players that you named weren't playing yesterday.. THAT IS WHAT THE SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP IS FOR, NOT INTERMEDIATE. Nice that Drumgoon bet them yesterday, they thought once they brought on Seanie the game was theirs.

I have to say there is always the spirit of the game and cavan gaels broke that -greed is a terrible thing-glad drumgoon won game and gaels need to look at themselves ,johnstone played most of the 2nd half against lacken and should not have been allowed to continue as a long term sub,is this going to go unheeded in all games this year or just in the ones where clubs have no sense of fair play and pride.

folks learn the rules and u will know what a blood sub consists of , Sean is right , only changes if he was sent off , So please for people who dont know the rules read them before ya start talking muck again about blood subs, the ref was also very poor in the game with Drumgoon yesterday

Unfortunelty the Shamrocks have been hit by injuries and players not returning to the panel. There is a good team there now but there is alot of youth mixed in. I think if they can stay the course for this year, they will be a good outfit next year. I think there were two or three games this year where they played games with an average age of 20!! thats tough for any team.

cavan gaels should be asahmed of themselves, glad they lost! hopefully mullahoran or ramor can win the senior championship this year. i cant believe that is allowed to happen, both cavan gaels teams should be completly different, then we would see what they are made of! great win for knockbride but they will win no intermediete championship, too many teams better than them this year

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.our wonder captain playing in both senior and intermediate championships the same weekend.I don't care if it is strictly within the rules or not it is downright wrong.no wonder Cavan football is in the state it's in.fair play to drumgoon for beating them.

he must need an ego boost if he needs to play with the reserves

Very harsh lads, the rules are the rules. If another club had done this or it was another gaels player nobody would have batted an eyelid. Why should the rules be different just because he's the best player in the county? Fair play to him for togging out for a reserve team game. A lot of senior players think they're too good to play reserve. If an intermediate team can't beat the Gaels without the 15 players that started the senior championship game plus whatever few injuries they have, then they've no business in the intermediate championship. And aren't Drumgoon far better off to have a tight game under their belt than too have played a weak Gaels 2nd team and walked all over them? Get on with it and quit whining.

People,Cavan Gaels had every right to play johnston on sunday, they aint breaking any rules,he can play at whatever level he likes if hes eligable, again this is a case of the whole county bitter because cavan gaels are so succesful, maybe you should all worry about your own clubs and not be worrying about someone else clubs, anyway, most of our county palyers come from junior and intermeditate teams,so maybe he was just following the trend.

Drumgoon won fair and square and good luck to them. They weren't too worried about Cavan's progress in the All Ireland minor though. They played Conor Moynagh having said the game would go ahead without County Minors. What is the problem people have with Gaels players playing in the intermediate championship. If they are eligible they are eligible. You's are starting to sound like the sad Junior clubs that got the Gaels removed from their Mickey Mouse tournament.

1. Nobody is saying that Gaels broke the rules by playing Johnson in the intermediate
2. people are questioning why gaels felt the need to use him . He is clearly a senior player.
3. If i was a regular on the gaels second team and seen seanie entering the fray instead of me I would be really annoyed.
4. this is not about the opposition complaining because they might get beaten it's about the spirit of the game and about the mindset of the Gaels team mgmt
(or can johnson do what he wants within the Gaels camp).

The rule should be changed regarding the blood sub. In fact it should be abolished to remove any ambiguity and bending of the rules.
Each team can use 5 subs. that should be enough. if a player is bleeding he can go off and be replaced by a sub. if he recovers he can then come on as a substitute.
each sub should be deemed to have played in the game no matter how long they have been on the pitch.

Dont know what the fuss is about, no rules were broken....... Naturally the Gales will field their strongest team to try win every game and they did just that. Johnston was man enought to tog for an intermediate game and has to be respected for that. I konw a lot of players in other clubs that would not tog for the second team no matter what.
Get on with it....

I really don't see any merit in this discussion. The gaels broke no rules and they can do whatever they like. Ultimately they wont win the intermediate championship so we need to move on from this to topics that actually matter such as has anyone seen any new emerging players?

Peter Reilly kicked 10 or 12 points for Knockbride Junior c's to win a game last year and I remember playing Drumgoon in the Junior C competition about 4 or 5 years ago with no less than 3 of their senior team playing including Eddie jackson and one of the hannons who were not long off the county panel at the time. Of course teams will play their strongest team within the rules and if this involves playing a senior player who hasnt as yet played senior football then 99 per cent of teams will do it no matter what level it is at. Let's not forget that this happened at intermediate level and not Junior C. If people feel the blood sub rule should be changed then that is an entirely different matter.

Look if you ever played Gowna years ago.You d often wonder who was senior & junior as they all lent their services to both codes bar Mc cabe & Mc keevr or a few more classy players.

Denn always mix & match Hubert & john Smith play it the kiernans young farrelly .Its for game practice & fitness and management decisions. helps 2nd team to play with good inside forwards also.

Good to see Johnson will play Intermediate as he s portrayed as player with Heirs & Graces. Even better to see Drumgoon handle the situation.

Tell me about the good yound players on display in Intermediate & i hear Larry the legend stole the show against Cootehill. Yis need to quit being so negative & narrow minded & enjoy The championship.

God yis will be retired long enough!

Could'nt have said it better myself Denn man.Lets talk football not the side show stuff. Great win for Ballyhaise against Drumlane one of the stronger interm. teams. Swanlinbar look on good form so could be hard to handle in the knockout stages. What about killeshandra have had a tough league but could they turn it around for the championship. Drumgoon have had a good year and could be dangerous in the knockout stages and what about Knockbride confidence will be very high after a good win over Cootehill but will they be able to win 4 or 5 matches in a row i'm not sure. Who else could win it maybe Cootehill and i forgot about Crosserlough it will be interesting to see how it pans out, because any of the teams can beat each other on a good day.
