you heard wrong it was actually 5-17 to 1-07. Shercock/Kingscourt are a very strong unit who have done a lot of prep work for the championship in comparision to the Drumgoon/Cootehill team who looked disjointed. But in all honesty where does this leave cavan football?? 8 teams in the minor div1 and 4 were amalgamations.

and correct me if im wrong but as Kingscourt/Shercock are not in the one parish (as far as im aware) they are ineligible to play in the Ulser Club Minor?

so it would paint a picture that they wanted to ensure a Div1 championship at all costs regardless of the Ulster competition.

madness in my eyes. whats next Cavan Gaels and any other Cavan town team?? West Cavan Gaels?? Drumgoon/Cootehill/St.Finbarrs?? i could go on and on.

all for the sake of "improving" the standard of football but im sorry 5-17 to 1-7 in a minor semi final isn't improving the standard.

Amalgamataions are acceptable when there needed for example Eire Og , St.Finbarr's ,redbridge and drumport etc . .but teams that already have enough players on there own shouldn't be joining up !

dickchicken i agree 100% with you.

Drumgoon were in the Minor Div3 league final this year and as far as im aware Cootehill won Div4 on their own so why amalgamate?

ok. i will have to find a new source. regarding the kingscourt/shercock amalgum I didn't realise that they would not be able to compete in ulster if they won cavan due to them not being in the same parish. It is true that they are not in the same parish (bailieboro and shercock are both in the parish of killan).

However Shercock and Kingscourt have a long history of amalgamating. the seniors even joined forces in the seventies. so to say that they only joined in a desperate attempt to win some silverware is wide of the mark. However this year the case for amalgamation should have been looked at more closely by the county board as both teams were very strong. (kingscourt having won div 1 on their own).
In the event that kingscourt/shercock Do win the county final would that mean that cavan gaels would be automatically chosen as the cavan representative in the ulster minor club championship. If that is the case then they can start celebrating already.

Cavan geals have won nearly every minor championship since 1996/7. They beat strong Kingscourt Denn Crosserlough teams back then & things has nt changed much.

The Cream of the Crop will come through for your club either ways. I beleive amalgamations For Minor is no harm. You only ever get 1 or 2 shots at a Minor medal.Whereas you play senior for 10 years.

If you think a player wont come back after been droped for an amalgamation then do you want him? Getting his club jersey should be very important to him, winning & competing at highest level should be everything. Too many clubs happy to field teams as it is. Don t let pride cloud success.

from what i can gather they agreed the amalgamation before a ball was even kicked in the minor league so they took a chance and realised they had a good group of players and from what was easy to see yesterday they have worked hard and the rumours were they trained once a week together for 3-4months previous so credit were its due they didn't look like 2 teams thrown together for the sake of it.
but yes the County Board need to address the situation and it has to be monitored closer. 4 county minors and several county u17's were on display for Kingscourt/Shercock.

and can i make a case for player droup off's too.i know they happen but Drumgoon and Cootehill fielded teams on their own in the league thats 30 players at least while last night they had 4 subs equalling 19 players and yes i understand the whole u16 argument (i dont agree with them being labelled "too young" but its not the point here) but still for two teams to have 19 players from a pool of 25-30 is not good for when they finish minor and become Junior B/Senior players for their clubs. Kingscourt/Shercock had 8 subs i think.

on a brighter amalgamation note credit to Ramor/Kilinkere for having 2 teams compete in Div1 and Div3 . least they guarenteed football to everyone which is what clubs want at the end of the day, a core of young players(4-5 players) every year to strengthen and improve their senior squad and eventually break into the first 15

Kingscourt / shercock had 32 players listed on the programme . .

and was there 32 togged out?? i didn't see 17 subs. and if they had 32 why didn't they do something similar to the ramor/Kilinkere amalgamation and enter a 2nd team in a lower division because at least 12 players there aren't guarenteed any competitive football

I dont know but it just shows that neither a them would have a problem fielding a team

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when O'Raghallaigh Gaels won the minor championship in 1997 they went on to represent Cavan in Ulster and got bet in the 1st round. How is this different?
