Similarly, you must be stumped by my last few questions tom, since you can't come up with any asinine answers or replies.

As the Derry artist and novelist Joyce Cary once said:
"It is the tragedy of the world that no one knows what he doesn't know - and the less a man knows, the more sure he is he knows everything."

I'm with Porterbelly all the way here.
How dare anyone sling muck on the smallest and least populated parishes in the county?
If you look at the importance of these clubs in their communities you would have to say Tom that they are shining examples.
If things were right in the county then clubs like Ramor, Bailieboro and Cootehill would be there year in year out in the senior quarter finals, but this is not the case.
For many rural communities GAA means much more than picking up trophies, it's a way of socialising and developing friendships and personal networks.
Meanwhile in the bigger towns the kids that are smaller or less skilled are more or less ignored, so therefore they give up the game or switch codes.
Winning is great, but there can only be one winner, but feeling part of a club and a community is much more important!

Good posts Drumavigo and Wahoo. Lads, you're knockin your noggin off a brick wall here. No matter how reasonable and, in my opinion, correct your arguments are you're wasting your time trying to reason with him in tomsmithland. Ignore him.

West Cavan has some of the best teams, Templeport won a Div.1 title at u16 and a Div.2 title at u18 + Swadlabar won came second In Ireland junior level.

I see you are a new poster. let me enlighten you about or Mr Tom Smith. His posts are not to be taken seriously. He is either a wummer or extremely deluded. we can't figure out which. but I suspect the latter.

If you look at this post of Sep 2009, I said I hoped that in five years that I will be proved wrong and that West Cavan will be a force in Cavan football.
Well sadly three years have passed and Cavan football in West Cavan is very weak, I do know that emigration and other factors do play a part in this weakness.
But if you look at the recession in 1980 to 1988 west Cavan football was on a high.
You had Templeport with the Owen and Sean Martin on the Cavan panel . You had Garret all be it he was based in Dublin at full back on a good Cavan team. Ollie Texas Brady a Cavan stalwart from Redhill was no mean performer.

How can you say that west cavan gaa men and women are not hard working , look at all the facilities in west cavan that only the rest of cavan from belturbet upwards could dream of for example, templeport and corlough and others have the best facilities in the county , and the best pitch surface, where in east cavan would you see this , all of this is resulted of hard work , obviosley the football isnt the same standard due emigration and lower population , but one of cavans best footballers gearoid mckiernan , mcloughlin and mckiernan from killeshandra and others on the cavan team all west cavan

Drumalee 11 and John Pat,
Good playing conditions offer nothing to a Senior Cavan County team.
you can have the finest facilities around but where are the players of a high County standard.
If you look at Cavan Gaels the best team in Cavan for years with a very poor Terry Coyle park, some of these good players from the Gaels will not play for Cavan. I still make the point that West Cavan is letting the GAA down.
Like it or lump it it is a fact.

Well the County Board aren't helping anything about it. Belturbet u14s are in division 1. They finished 3rd in 1A losing to the Gaels by 4 points in the last game kept them out of a semi final. Not one of the Belturbet lads were picked for the u14 County team, which I think is a disgrace!

And by the way Tom, look at East Cavan e.g Kingscourt. How many senior players do they have? None that started against Kildare anyway! Whereas Belturbet had 1 and another if he hadn't of been injured! So that's two from Belturbet and for some reason I think they're in the West of Cavan!

Templeport are the only side attempting to play alone in the Minor Div 1 Championship. A brave move considering they will be up against amalgamations like Cavan Gaels/Killigary. Great to see a bit of courage from a small rural side struggling badly at Senior level.

If you look at the Picture of was it the 1973 Cavan team in the Celt last week, you will see what I am talking about
Phil Kelly, John Joe Martin, Garret Reilly, Frankie Dolan all big players and most of them from WEst Cavan.
like it or lump it youse can talk all yo like about facilities and U,16 U 18 teams but tell me where is the Senior players that could lace the boots of the four players that I have named above.
Just accept it that the structure needs updating and it would be a great project for the GAA HQ to take on board to look at all the money that was pumped into great facilities with very little good Senior players in return

Tom, if that the case then its maybe its the Gaels that are letting the GAA and the county down...

I just dont understand people like Tom who criticize people who are trying to in a genuine effort , and its paying dividence , West Cavan as an area , has some of the best footballing surfaces and facilities in the country and far ahead of the rest of Cavan , West Cavan may not have the best footballing ability , but this is not down too effort , there are many factors emmigration and low population and such. But the facilities in the area are first class and its bound to be good for the development of the players in the future , please Tom dont criticize before you get your facts straight .
