Very good post wahoo. Tom doesn't know how to spell Killeshandra so he is obviously not a Cavan man at all. he seems to post alot on the Donegal boards too. maybe he is from Donegal or worse still Fermanagh.

Well said Wahoo and now for some more facts.

No disrespect intended to any of the other clubs mentioned but this is to prove that West Cavan clubs have produced players that have been considered to have the potential to be included in County panels for the National League and the Championship. Not all have made it for various reasons but all have been there and a good number included in the Championship squad which is a decent achievement considering it has been obvious over the past 10 years that it is more difficult to get a chance when all of the selectors are from east of Cavan town bar one. I think the following list disproves your argument. Also consider that Bailieboro has the 2nd largest population in the county, probably more than Drumlane, Redhills, Templeport and Corlough all put together and they've produced 1 that I can think of.
Redhills - Michael Brides (Championship), Paddy Gumley, Fintan Reilly (Ch), Rory Dunne(Ch)
Belturbet - Paul Murphy(Ch), Aron Donohoe(Ch), Jason Reilly(Ch), Rory Donohoe(Ch)
Killeshandra - Declan McKiernan, Tomas Reilly (Ch)
Drumlane - Daryl McConnell (Ch), Barry Corrigan(Ch)
Kildallan - Declan Crushell, Ronan Reilly
Templeport - Shane ??
Swad - Gearoid McKiernan, Michael Cunningham, John Cunningham(Ch), Damien Prior, Thomas Prior(Ch)
Corlough - Fintan McGovern
Shannon Gaels - Eamon Reilly(Ch), Anthony Forde(Ch)
And now for the other junior clubs mentioned by Wahoo.
Maghera, - ??
Mountnugent, - David Givney (Ch)
Muntirconnaught, - ??
Ballymachugh - James Fitzimons I think??
Laragh - Paul Cooney (Ch?)
Bailieborough - David Rooney

Porterbelly, Mc Lover and Redassasin, perhaps ye as Hoganstand persons would look at the substance of my comments which I will standbye untill I am proved wrong and that is "" West Cavan GAA clubs are letting Cavan GAA down "".
This is a clear statement which has not been rebutted.
Some have tried to pick holes in my statement by saying the a line down main street in Cavan Town and that is east or west.
I suppose I should have asked the former Cavan senior team manager who would he describe west Cavan clubs that make little or no contribution to Cavan GAA?.

Tom, this can not be regarded as a "clear statement" until it's quantified by specific examples.
Are we to assume that West Cavan GAA clubs are letting Cavan GAA down in every conceivable way? I.e. in their attitude, commitment, facilities, financial contribution, haircuts, accent etc., etc. (Excuse the ridiculous examples)
Or can we assume that your "clear statement" refers to the (in my humble opinion, clearer) examples you gave?
One of which I again, respectfully, await your answer/clarification on.

West Cavan are the models upon which the Cavan County team should be modelling themselves on. Poor at the minute but picking themselves up, putting effort into having excellent facilites and having good underage teams.

How can cavan progess with the likes of Cavan Gaels who are supposed to be the top team in the county brawling after games and setting what should be the highest standard in the county at an extremely low level.

Brother Smith I have to say this in defense of Cavan Gaels, who are generally white collar workers, that a get them attitude is sometime taken by working class players when playing the Gaels. It would be normal for people like the Gaels players and parents to react to this extreme provocation and this then coming from a well behaved team like the Gaels can appear out of order.
I do not make any excuse for bad manners on a GAA field but I do feel that the Gaels for the aforementioned reasons do be picked on.

Tom these White Collar players of the Gaels are the cream of our society, aristocrats both on and off the field of play. It is my belief that they should be sporting the stiff upper lip that befits their status. Until they are able to rise to the heights that will put them beyond the taunts and provocations of the working classes of Cavan then they will never drag Cavan football out of the famine we have been languishing in for the past 30 years.

if you call that brawling jon smith then you obviously werent at the game because there was not 1 punch thrown....... you should go to a few games instead of pretending to know about football when all you are going on is what you hear.... and as for the county team.... if the gaels are dominating cavan then why are the managers not picking more of them for the team.... gaels 15 against cavan select i know who i'd be backing.....

Well Mr . Tribute I do hope that in 5 years from now I will be posting and that your response will be "" Is west Cavan still letting Cavan football down ""
I do know that some West Cavan people are putting in some effort , but I feel that the small club mentality is yet very evident in peoples minds in west Cavan.

Even though you ignored my request for clarification on a previous statement Tom I'd like you to expand on what you believe to be a small club mentality please?

RE TOMSMITH:
I ask the question is west Cavan letting the GAA down.
I feel that the GAA is very weak in west Cavan and that it will take it years to recover.
If Cavan football is going to get stronger I feel that the west Cavan gaa people will have to start putting in the work.
If you look at Cavan ,west from Redhill to Killashandra you have very few good footballers at present.
You have a proliferation of junior club s that do nothing for county football
What do you think.

Please debate the following. :>.
I ask the question is Tomsmith letting the Cavan hoganstand forum community down.
I feel that Toms knowledge of Cavan GAA is very weak and may take years of going to club games to recover.
If Toms posts are to start making sense I feel that Tom will have to start putting in the time to research the validity of his statements.
If you look at Toms posts, on the hoganstand boards from Cavan to Donegal, he has very few good ones that make sense.
You have a proliferation of c**p posts that do nothing to add to a football debate.
What do you think.

In true Tomsmith style I will not offer any decent arguments to back up the above ..................so Tom - dont bother trying to get into a slingling match, it wont work.

Tom. You are throwing dirt at every club in west Cavan without having a clue of what they are doing week to week. At the same time you are too cowardly to name your own club for fear that people on the board could throw similar rubbish at you. I have no interest in your cv but I think anyone with a bit of pride in themselves and their club would say what that club is.

Tom - You silly boy. Nice try but no cigar. West Cavan clubs are small but small minded never - I would say the opposite is true. Small rural clubs with a small population base but great aspirations even with small panels. Great facilities, under age teams who win. Now your initial point is these clubs are letting the county down. Yet you fail to recognise what is really letting us down! Big clubs with a small club mentality!!! Maybe including your own and to prove my point. 1 - How many clubs are realistically challenging for senior championship every year? There are several big clubs happy just to keep top flight status as opposed to complete! 2 - flight clubs with whose underage teams are doing nothing yet they may have a massive pick of youngsters in these age groups. 3 - Baileborough; second biggest town in county what have they done in last 10 years. 4 - Castlerahan & Ramor have produced great underage teams and a couple of county seniors put have they brightened up our senior championship in last few years? No. 5- Clubs with huge picks of players. Aka Kilinkere - They have had three teams for a while now. So what are they doing to help the Cavan GAA. 6 - Laragh a former great club with a large pick what are they doing Tom? 7 - Crosserlough; Content to be in senior championship without competing or ever moving up a gear. 8 - Cavan Gaels; the kingpins of Cavan football. The Big fish in a small pond. Another team content with ther lot. They have had numerous changes to improve in Ulster but No. Hopefully this year. I do hope they can do it. 9 - How many intermediate clubs are going nowhere fast; yet not going backwards. Is this helping Cavan GAA Tom? 10 - Cootehill; big town in county - so what are they doing for Cavan GAA. 11 - What has Cavan GAA done for the club scene in Cavan in the last 20 years apart from send out bogus fixture lists. I put it to you Tom that your argument of small minded is a county wide problem from the top down. And if anything the small west cavan club is a lot more big club minded and forward thinking than some of the bigger clubs with bigger areas and picks. I also say to you; that you have been found out as a small minded person who Types before he thinks and who has lost this argument, as the proof shows that this is at least a county problem but more likely a problem with the GAA in the bigger towns and clubs than it is in rural West Cavan. The question is "Is the the larger urban areas and large clubs letting Cavan GAA down". The large towns where garison games are more popular than YOUR BELOVED CAVAN GAA. That is a statement discuss Tom or crawl back under some rock! Note: I mean no diservice to any of the clubs or areas I have mentioned above; I am just putting that chaps argument into context.

I feel that I am not to won this debate for as a prominent person once said " great injustices can be done when good men remain silent " and I feel that this is the case in relation to people stating a true fact that West Cavan is letting down the GAA.
