Replying To brianb:  "The beauty of the hurling championships is that there is a lot to play for. Every match matters. There is no jepordy in the All Ireland groups. We need to break the link to the league and reward championship performance with championship based promotion and relegation. That would immediately solve the current format. Imagine if the bottom placed team in the Connaught / Ulster / Dublin / Derry group were going to be relegated. That would allow the top 2 to go through to the 1/4 finals and no need to have the preliminary 1/4 finals. A much better format."
You could be right but the big problem is the short season. We are overloaded with games and cant get a chance to enjoy them. Then come August we have nothing.

Leinster Football Championship - 2 Like(s)

Replying To LongfordgaaAbú:  "Leinster Council delegates from all counties who voted to prevent this from happening again and again and again over the years should be held to account now. Especially those from smaller/weaker counties who time and again stood in the way of games being played outside Croker and time and again voted against the interests of their own county in order to enrich the Council and endear themselves to those running it. Well done Louth and Meath, the Dubs will be back, but here's to a great final."
I agree more games should be played outside Croker but Dublin did nt make the decisions. I also agree Croke park is of course an advantage but where else can you play finals. I have no problem with Dublin playing games away.In a perverse way Dublin are a disadvantage nowadays playing games outside of Croker as we not used to it like other counties.Croke park makes the decisions not Dublin and I know for true that alot of the players would like to play more games outside of Croker.Counties like Mayo and Kerry love playing there and other counties want the experience of playing there so its hard to keep everyone happy. Yes a home ground is an advantage and Dublin nominated Croke park instead of the Neller but for years both Meath and Kildare used Croke park as their home ground for all championship matches.

Good to see Danny Sutcliffe back for the hurlers and Conor McHugh seemed to have a sound debut.Young David Purcell could be a good prospect too.Slim chances of promotion so its preperation for the championship now.Hope O Ceallachain does well steering the ship and its nice to have a Dublin man as manager again.

I think Wicklow will beat Tipp but Limerick will be a tough ask.Regardless of promotion it would be nice to see Wicklow finish off the league in style and look forward to the championship with confidence.

Replying To StoreysTash:  "This whole calendar is absolute MADNESS and somebody has to shout STOP at some stage. We are shoehorning the best championships of the year into weekends which are absolutely packed already when people have no focus on GAA. The championship should start the week after the Premier League is finished, by that stage the winter sports are all largely done. They have given up their prime months where they were the only show in town for a rushed championship which nobody really likes. There should be club championships in April and May finishing in mid-May to give the county teams prep time. Then June and July can be inter county matches culminating with the provincial finals at the middle of July. Then August can be more club matches and in September the All-Ireland series starts for the lucky few, with the finals being played in October. I have a long haul flight coming up soon and I would bet that within the 14 hours I would bet I would be able to come up with a calendar for both hurling and football which would serve everybody well. It cannot be that hard and if the inter county managers have to suck it up, well suck it up they can."
Nail on head. The season is too cramped for certain.

Great news to see John Small back .A great boost just before the championship begins .If only a certain midfielder might return. Wishful thinking I suppose.

New Format 2026 All Ireland - 1 Like(s)

Replying To boxtyburgerbuns:  "The head honchos of the GAA just seem to be copying everything that the AFL in Australia are doing from the field to the format for our form of football. Zero benefit now to winning a provincial championship except for local bragging rights. Just a further step to rendering provincial championships as meaningless, which is the end goal I think"
You are right .The Gaa set up a group to bring in new rules and from what I can see they just copied most of them from Aussie rules or rugby. The 50metre penalty, handing the ball back and hooter are all just copied from other sports.

Replying To MayoDan:  "I think Dublin will beat Tyrone which will confirm our safety either way. Also wouldn't rule out Galway or Derry winning tbh. We're 66/1 with the bookies to be relegated which tells the story."
Mayo have a great chance of being in a league final too.

A good league for Dublin overall and going into last game in a lovely position.A chance of a league final which I would take but if not its not the end of the world. Bugler has been just unreal and we have unearthed some good talent.Madden could be an important player for us yet come championship, John Small seems to be definately gone and he will be a loss.He owes Dublin nothing and wish him well. Not many of the old boys left but Kilkenny still a top player.Im not so sure did Clucko make the right move coming back.Dont think the new rules suit him at all and would hate to see him finish with a really poor season. On the new rules Im not sure I like them.

David Clifford GOAT - 1 Like(s)
First time poster here.I have been watching football for well over 50 years and I have not seen a better footballer than young David Clifford. For contributors that say young Clifford has nt produced it in big matches they either have nt watched or are talking balderdash. Young Clifford was superb in semi finals v Dublin Derry and Tyrone and was brilliant in 2019 v Dublin and outstanding v Galway in 2022 finals.I attended 2023 final in my blue colours to see Clifford and Con and watch my beloved Dubs win. We won and Clifford was quieter than usual and the press hounded him. What I saw was Clifford beating Mick Fitz to every single ball and scoring a few great points while producing a super pass for the Kerry goal .It should be noted while Clifford was criticised Con o Callaghan was scoreless. For those that say its only Dubs refusing to give young Clifford praise, well Im as blue as you get although Im living in Wicklow for many years. I also saw a few other Dublin contributors praise young Clifford and rightly so.Sportsmanship is important. I was lucky to have seen Matt Connor too who also had quiet finals by the way.He was brilliant too but it should be noted that back then forwards did nt have to deal with two or three markers and mass defenses. Some of the old forwards might struggle in todays game but can you imagine Clifford Con and Shane Walsh playing back then when only one player marked them. I also had the privilege of meeting David in Killarney two years ago while on a break to the Kingdom and I can honestly say you could nt meet a finer down to earth person. While we have a big rivalry with Kerry and admire them and I Think they do with us too. Most of us dubs are just thrilled we got to see possibly the greatest team of all time doing 6 in a row and we saw some great players in that era of our own form James Mccarthy to Fenton but that young Clifford is the finest I have seen.

Replying To realdub:  "Dean Rock was as important, if not, the most important part of that Dublin team. Most accurate free taker I've ever seen and always on the big occasion. He was first recognised for his points from play when he used to come on late in games. O'Connor is a top inter-county forward, and was only a hair's width from being the main man on a great All=Ireland winning team, and on more than one occasion."
I agree 100%. His Dad Barney was top class too but Dean the most accurate place kicker I have seen.

No complaints on the football as better team won.Bugler a big loss and his absence shows how important he is to Dublin. The hurlers unlucky but better days ahead.

Some Updates On The Football Review - 1 Like(s)

Replying To tirawleybaron:  "I would make a few tweaks also 1. Game finishes on last play when the siren goes - like rugby - I don't like the current anti climax 2. Get rid of the 2 point punishment for technical infringements/throwing the ball away - 1 point is enough 3. Kicks outs and free taking to be 30 seconds 4. In case of black card - team still has to keep 3 up. 5. in case of red card - team allowed to drop 12 into own half in defence 6. Kick outs - defender should be able to collect ball inside the 40m arch as long as he is outside it when the keeper kicks the ball. 7. Keeper in attack - prevent him from handpassing the ball - kicking only"
I concur on most of your suggestions except the hooter. The 20 second rule was exposed badly up in Armagh with both Rafferty and young Comerford penalised harshly.Timing the frees would be fair too as time can be wasted easily slowing the free taking.

Replying To TheUsername:  "If you played for Dublin then im sure we know the same people and perhaps even each other and have mixed in very similar circles over the years. One thing that always strikes me with those who "lift all boats" - they are often the most humble. Perhaps some awareness and reflection on how you personally respond to others may be something you can lean into if you want to talk about the game. As im sure you know, many contribute to the game, as players, coaches, volunteer's etc there should be no hierarchy nor should you feel compelled to post your credentials either in attending games or playing - i had a great debate with one of the volunteers out in O Tooles during the week and he never kicked a ball - so there is no need to personally attack anyone or post your CV."
Perhaps we do know the same people but I certainly did not post my c.v.. I only mentioned the fact as you questioned my person.Sometimes people dont realise who they are talking to .I was beside an ex All Ireland medal winner one day at a game when an angry supporter shouted at him that he knew nothing about football. We both just looked at each other and smiled. My c.v isnt worth posting but I did play with some players that certainly had great c.v s.Of course I have met great people who never played but have a big input in the gaa but some people can only ever see their own teams or their own players.Thats not sport.Medals dont make you a better player either.Brian Fenton aside I Think Ciaran Whelan was a better player that some that won medals playing midfield for Dublin .

Replying To TheUsername:  "Haha Very good, your opinion is irrelevant and you very much dont speak for "Dubs" Mr Bray who registered this morning, to represent yourself on this urgent issue - too funny - at lest make it subtle. I presented facts that are open to rebuttal on the game, but you've just shown yourself as a low calibre by insulting. Curious that you draw Con in. Your not the type of person i feel best reprentts Dublin or "Dubs" or i want to be associated with Dublin GAA, i suspect a yellow or gold streak, thank you. Like you say there are supporters that give others a bad name. But then im pretty sure your not a Dub, Mr had to register this morning on this critical debate on defending David Clifford. Too Funny! ;D"
Also your opinion is irrelevant to me also but you are some person to make assumptions. If a contributor gives an opinion you dont like then they must not be from Dublin. I am from Dublin and I have played for Dublin also although I have no All Ireland medals so I did nt lift the boats either. Also I did nt register this morning but you should know that as you seem to know everything. I admire many great players even Graham Geraghty that many of my fellow Dubs despise. It seems you dont like new posters but im sure I have attended many more games than you have although that too is an assumption.

Replying To TheUsername:  "He is heading into his 7th or 8th season. Year 1, Didnt get past a quarter final Year 2, Was part of the Kerry team that surrendered the Five in a row to Dublin. Year 3. Choked in Munster Semi final Vs Cork. Year 4. Knocked out in the Semi Vs Tyrone Year 4. Won an AI. Year 5. Uninfluential and beaten in the final. Year 6. Knocked out in Semis by Armagh. The best players of all times lift all boats. You can talk of supporting casts but this isnt Browne or Ford at Tipperary or Wexford. This is Kerry who cake walk into a quarter (at least) every year, with a squad of 5 minors in a row, all the traditional and by their own measure of success down there, a year without an All Ireland is a failure, so Clifford needs to be held to their own standard. The trend in each of the above seasons is he and Kerry have come up short in performances at key times. Is it a harsh measure - sure - but you are talking about calling him the single greatest player of all time. No. Hes a good player and a great player of this era among many."
Your post is utter garbage and stinks of jealousy and hypocrisy. You are either ignorant or a jealous contributor. By your standards Joe Canning was nt a great player either.Maybe if young Clifford was on the Dublin team he would be even much better. He would in your opinion for certain as you are short sighted when others get credit. Maybe our own Con would be average with Kerry. After all did nt Con miss an easy chance for us to draw with Galway last year and Con was non existent in 2023 final. As a Dublin supporter I find your posts embarrassing. One of my most memorable days was when we won the five in a row a game CLIFFORD was excellent in but you as a so called Dublin supporter now say we did nt win the five in a row but that Kerry surrendered to us.Well thank you Kerry.I thought we beat them fairly.Give credit when credit is due and have respect like contributors such as realdub and mesamis. It is the likes of contributors like you that make most counties dislike Dublin. I have been in Croke park to see Dublin win every All Ireland since 1974 and I have been there for the losses too and only once ever did the neutrals shout for Dublin and that was in 2011 v Kerry.Maybe supporters like you are the reason. Medals dont make a player better. It just means they play on a better team.Ive seen greats like our own Anton O Toole and Brian Mullins God be good to them and I would hate if they got disrespected.I dont know if young Clifford is the greatest but I have nt seen anyone better and some of the stuff he has done I never saw any other player do it. It seems to me you would find fault just because he is from Kerry.Grow up.
