Ballinderry (Derry) will play Crossmolina Deel Rovers (Mayo) in the All-Ireland club intermediate football championship final next Sunday after both sides came through their respective semi-finals this afternoon.
The Ulster champions saw off Kerry’s Austin Stacks by 0-11 to 0-7 at Parnell Park to book their club’s return to Croke Park for the first time since their All-Ireland club SFC final triumph over Nemo Rangers in 2002.
The points of Dylan Casey and Paddy Lane helped the Tralee side lead by 0-4 to 0-2 at half, but Ballinderry produced a sizzling second-half display in the freezing conditions to show the Munster champions the exit door.
Jarlath Bell’s men kicked seven of the last eight scores to ensure their return to the capital next weekend, with Darren Lawn and sub Daniel McKinless outstanding for them down the home stretch.
In Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, Crossmolina Deel Rovers proved too strong for Kildare opponents Caragh as it finished 1-12 to 0-6 in favour of the westerners.
A Conor Loftus penalty on 15 minutes saw the Connacht champions towards a 1-4 to 0-4 half-time lead and, from there, they’d hit the first six points of the second-half to take firm control.
Caragh pulled back two points late on but the goals they needed never came their way, as Crossmolina cruised into tomorrow week’s All-Ireland decider at HQ.
