Oldcastle's Nicky Galligan

Former Oldcastle star Nicky Galligan is waking up this morning after his first ever Show Jumping Grand Prix win at the Desert International Horse Park in California. On board Javas Miss Jordan the Meath man took home the top prize of $137,000.

Galligan was one of the stars of the show as Oldcastle claimed the 2009 Meath IFC title. The full forward scored 1-3 as Kilmainhamwood were defeated 2-11 to 0-6 in the decider.

The former footballing star took to social media to sum up his win.

"I realized yesterday wasn't a dream but a day when my dreams came true!"

I simply don’t have words for how special Javas Miss Jordan is, I’m absolutely bursting with pride at what we achieved winning the 3* 1.55m $137,000 Brown Advisory Grand Prix here at Desert Horse Park.

I feel so privileged, to own and ride a mare like Jordan, she loves this sport as much as I do and just gives me 110% every time she steps in the ring.

Their long partnership started in Ireland when the mare came to him as a 4-year-old. Nicky realised, “Jordan was quite special and a horse who I could chase a career with, or sell and buy a home and settle down in Ireland.” Happily, he did the former and they are well on their way to the proverbial: the rest is history.

Oldcastle’s loss is showjumping gain.
