Absolutely blessed to win that. If sligo had a few forwards they'd have won easy. Although it was great to be lucky rather than unlucky.

Replying To Claretandblue:  "The negativity on this forum is staggering, far worse than on any other county forum, meant to be a place to discuss and share info on matters relating to Westmeath Gaa in all four codes, that's no longer the case as a few posters, approx 5-6 have decided to use it to vent at all and sundry, the recent posts by some lads wouldn't be uttered in a public forum as they'd be ridiculed and rightly so, pity as quite a few posters put up useful and interesting info and opinions but the few bitter and angry ones are like Trump's supporters, shout loudly and ignore any facts."
People are entitled to vent their frustration at something which the dog on the street knows is wrong. I'll be positive about the team but this rubbish from the county board needs calling out. You know yourself the new format is rubbish but instead you'll cheerlead for the county board

Replying To Dazzler30:  "Gallagher would be miles better than Wall. Was never convicted of anything and a top team will take him again. He would get Westmeath further than lar wall if you were to talk only on football terms. The outside stuff is a major issue but would be a great chance to land a top manager."
I'd happily be bottom of division 4 for the next 20 years than have Rory Gallagher as manager. It won't be him anyways but anybody here cheerleading for Rory Gallagher would wanna take a long hard look in the mirror.

Westmeath V Armagh - 3 Like(s)

Replying To Bruno@1:  "Hopefully Dessie and co takes the defensive shackles off and lets Westmeath play an attacking game on Saturday evening. If we try and match Armagh's defensive play they will murder us on the counter. Give it a go and if we fail at least we tried to take the game to them. Also if there a breeze and we win the toss please take the advantage of the wind and none of the rubbish we witnessed in Portlaoise against Wicklow with the captain on the day being hung out to dry. Take a draw at this stage"
We frustrated Armagh last season by being defensively solid and holding onto the ball for long periods. We did this well against Down and they in turn were very unlucky not to get a result against Armagh playing the same way. Surely this is the way to go again.

Replying To Greengrass1:  "Fixtures due out on Sunday which is the normal time frame in advance of games. Clubs know the generic dates for some time now"
Weird lie. Clubs knew at least two weeks in advance the last two years who they were playing. They also knew the exact days of the weekend they were playing so people could arrange time off work etc. A lot of clubs will be out next Friday and won't know until tomorrow morning. 5 days notice is nowhere near good enough. How hard is it to send out a fixture list? the last few years it's been the same order or been flipped. But that's just a small thing in comparison to the ludicrous structure that's been passed

Fair play to Westmeath county board for getting rid of one of the few good things we had going. New championship format is ludicrous. What was even the thought process behind this ???

2nd most best forward in the county sitting at home
Wont win anything if best players not playing"
Has to be a parody account

Another one that got away today. Unlucky with a few refereeing decisions but thought the game still could have been won. McCormack is giving us nothing out the field to warrant his poor kickouts and the fact he's not a shot stopper. Ray connellan gave a terrible ball away for the goal. We also butchered a goal chance and took a few crazy shots in both halves (even with the strong wind in the first half). Relegation is a certainty now unfortunately. Also the decision to bring on Kieran Martin was questionable to say the least in a game where you needed legs

I know they beat us last year but I think that's the best draw we could have got. There's no excuse for complacency after last year

Replying To lakecounty90:  "What games are you be watchin
Jack Connaughton is the best goalie in the county
Conor is wasted in goal
Luke wouldnt be under so much pressure if had Conor in the forward line with him."
Will you stop, if McCormack was worth his place outfield he'd be playing outfield simple as . I won't argue with Connaughton as a goalie but Jason Daly and Trevor Martin are both easily good enough to start on this team. Bizarre that they persisted with McCormack since the rule change

Replying To Matthew:  "Were you even at any of the games? Did you go to Newry; I expect not? A handful of people there again tonight.

Yes it was a very tough loss. We didn't get any calls from the referee tonight. Yes it was another hard luck loss… some of the points scored tonight were phenomenal from Westmeath. Luke got one of the best points I've ever seen tonight. I suggest people check it out!! Cooney got some very good 2 pointers also. Forde was outstanding aswell. McCormack generally did well with his kickouts and he is improving game by game with his kickouts.

Our bench is a little weak and we could do with getting Baker back as another option upfront. We had a few goal chances but we didn't take them and that was probably the difference in the end.

It would be a big boost if a few of the injuries clear up for the Kildare game and that game is the priority now. A big difference in how the footballers are losing and the hurlers…"
I was actually at the game. Good man, I see you're able to have a mature conversation about it. I've said there's loads of positives I'm just saying losing tight games isn't all hard luck. It's not all coincidence. That's not to say it won't come over time, young team and all.

Fair play to Kieran Martin, a modern Westmeath legend. Gave us some great days and a huge servant to the county. Will never ever forget the roasting he gave Donald Keoghan in croke Park

Mark McHugh in. In fairness county board moved fairly quick on this one. Interesting to see his backroom team

Replying To Fighting-Cocks69:  "Another problem is the expense. I know the Leinster board or Croke Park control the prices, but if you're a family of five, it'll be 20 euros each for the adults. If all your three kids are students, that would be 15 euros for each of them. That adds up to 85 euros for a family of five to watch a game in Cusack Park. Imagine if they were to go to every game-it would be a total of 595 euros over the seven league games. I know there are loopholes in buying season passes and such, but whichever way you look at it, it's going to be very costly."
Can't hide behind the expense thing. It's the same price for Louth

Both have shown up for Westmeath on numerous occasions in fairness. Luke hasn't been as good this season either by his lofty standards, he was poor against Sligo and Clare. He only started scoring last week when the game was over. Mccartan and Wallace haven't been great by both of their standards. We have no midfield though yesterday showed how crucial Lynam is

Lomans vs Caulry
Kgad vs Athlone
Tpass vs Tang

Ronan Wallace absolutely outstanding today. Luke as well stood up. Brilliant win in the circumstances. However, it doesn't matter a bit if we don't beat Sligo in Cusack park but positive signs so far
