Dan Donoher celebrates fourth birthday

March 29, 2023

'Do It For Dan' is a fundraising drive for young Dan Donoher, son of former Laois footballers Niall and Aisling Donoher.

The little Laois boy for whom a massive fundraiser was held in 2020 celebrated turning four yesterday.

Dan Donoher from Ballybrittas was only given between 18 to 24 months to live after being diagnosed with a rare disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. That led to the ‘Do it for Dan’ campaign which was supported by GAA clubs across the country and raised over €2 million. Heartbreakingly, Dan was ineligible for life-saving medical treatment in the US due to a virus he contracted.

But he has defied the odds by reaching his fourth birthday. Dan, along with his father Niall and younger sister Sophie, were in Croke Park last summer to see his mother Aisling produce a Player of the Match performance in Laois’ All-Ireland intermediate final victory over Wexford.

Like Aisling, Niall has worn the O’Moore County jersey with distinction and won an All-Ireland minor medal in 2003.
