Conor Loftus has returned to the Mayo squad ahead of the start of the Allianz Football League.

The versatile performer’s return – which was confirmed by selector Colm Boyle after yesterday’s FBD League final defeat to Galway – is a huge boost to Mayo after he took a break from the inter-county scene last year. Loftus scored the winning goal for Crossmolina in their All-Ireland club IFC final victory over Ballinderry this time last year, just a fortnight after the tragic death of his fiancée, Róisín Cryan.

A former All-Ireland winner at both minor and U21 level, Loftus has scored 5-73 in 88 appearances for Mayo to date and could make his return in next Sunday’s rematch with Galway in Round 1 of the Allianz League at Pearse Stadium.
