Armagh boss Kieran McGeeney says he doubts star forward Rian O’Neill will play any part for the Orchard men in this year’s championship.

There had been reports at the end of last month that the Crossmaglen Rangers clubman had returned to the All-Ireland champions’ squad after missing the first few rounds of the Allianz League.

However, speaking to BelfastLive.co.uk after his side’s defeat to Kerry yesterday, McGeeney said that he doubts O’Neill will line-out at all for Armagh this season.

“We will not see Rian for a good while, I would say,” said the 2002 All-Ireland winning captain, who was asked after that if he’d play any part in the championship.

He replied: “I would doubt it. I would doubt it; he has his own stuff going on. As I said, I don’t like to go into fellas’ personal lives. We just have to respect that and let him do what he has to do.

“Give the fella the space. He deserves that. I am trying to do it for him.”
