Stalwart Mayo defender Colm Boyle has announced his inter-county retirement.

This morning's edition of the Mayo News reports that the 36-year-old has decided to call it a day after making 120 appearances for the Westerners. The Davitts clubman won six Connacht SFC medals and four All-Stars in a stellar career stretching back to 2008. He also won an All-Ireland U21 medal in 2006, but similar success proved elusive at senior level, despite him playing in five All-Ireland finals, including a replay in 2016.

Affectionately known as 'Boyler', the teak-tough half back missed Mayo's last two All-Ireland final defeats after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in an Allianz League game against Dublin in February of last year. He made just four appearances this year, all of which from the bench.
