Speculation is growing that Tyrone will seek a postponement of next Sunday's All-Ireland semi-final against Kerry after it emerged that “a number of players” are self-isolating pending the results of Covid-19 tests.

It's understood that 11 squad members have either tested positive or are isolating as close contacts. Joint-manager Feargal Logan along with players Frank Burns, Rory Brennan and Tiernan McCann all missed the Ulster final win over Monaghan because of the virus.

Tyrone GAA said in a statement that a decision on whether to look for a postponement would be made today.

“Further to a number of positive Covid19 tests with members of the Tyrone senior football panel and management, prior to last weekend’s successful Ulster Championship final in Croke Park, it was decided to have all panellists and management tested for the virus,” the statement read.

“While outcomes from these tests are awaited a number of players are self-isolating; it is anticipated that all outcomes will be known by Monday and preparations can then be made for the forthcoming All-Ireland semi-final with Kerry.”

Last year, the Sligo footballers were forced to concede their Connacht semi-final to Galway due to an outbreak in the camp, while the Mayo footballers and Dublin hurlers have had to field without key players due to Covid this summer.

But it's likely that the Red Hands would be granted a postponement in light of the recent decision to reschedule Cork's All-Ireland U20HC final against Galway after the Rebels were hit by an Covid outbreak.
