Yesterdays conditions emphasised the need for at least two covered stands. Umbrellas constantly obstructed peoples views in the uncovered terrace. This would of been alleviated by a roof. RoyalBadger (Meath) - Posts: 571 - 04/03/2019 10:06:05 2170002 Link 0 |
Or a covered stand that sheltered 4 times as many as the current one does. Can't wait for the day we get a covered stand with proper seats.

Agreed, I know a few guys that had to resort to the terrace as the car park at the back of the stand was full and had to find parking elsewhere so the terrace was the quickest option to get in, the stand full signs were up about 20 minutes before the game threw in and when you see people sitting on the wet concrete in front of the stand you know you have a good crowd in. More covered accommodation is something a lot of county grounds need and we are certainly no exception, I think the covered capacity of the stand is around 2,500 maybe less and on days like yesterday you realise the redevelopment of the place can't start quick enough, get the two stands on either side built and we worry about the grass banks after that

I have to say it's very disappointing there won't be a big terrace behind one of the goals. Not only would it increase the capacity but it would provide a cheaper ticket option and some prefer to stand. Jack_Goff (Meath) - Posts: 2920 - 17/05/2019 14:24:39 2184945 Link 19 |
I agree with you and add that both ends should be terraced- anything else is a total overspend and an un-necessary cost to the facility.

The plan was to begin work in May. No word about it. What's the story with it ? LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1523 - 21/05/2019 02:10:31 2186145 Link 13 |
I agree aswell, I think 4 stands are a bit much but I'll believe it when I see it anyway. Would be nice to have a terrace at either end, I don't know are they thinking more long term here or what. The day could conceivably come where H&S regs ban terraces but it's hard to see in the short term. When are works starting or when are they due to start? Not too worried about terraces tbh, I don't really go to them anymore (old age terrible thing) but I see the sense in leaving one end open, however the design does look impressive to me. My main concern is that work was to begin either this month or next, and no word as yet. So that's a worry. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 21/05/2019 10:43:03 2186209 Link 0 |
Works are to start in 2020. jackhackett (Meath) - Posts: 773 - 21/05/2019 11:30:36 2186236 Link 0 |
Yes they are being very careful on finance which is a good thing, the government funding I believe will be announced in October and the county board can not start any work until that announcement is made and I believe that goes for all applicants, it's possible some work may start before the year end in terms of preparatory work I believe and the draw for league fixtures could determine a lot in terms of how many home games we have and who we have at home and what capacity could be reached if one side was out of action.

Wasn't Offaly meant to be the last game there before reconstruction? Now it's back to 2020. Worried now this won't get off the ground or end up being a very scaled back project. RoyalBadger (Meath) - Posts: 571 - 21/05/2019 20:35:01 2186424 Link 0 |
As far as a I know the government funding was initially to be announced in April which would have allowed for an earlier start but that changed, the reason nothing has started is purely because nothing can start until that funding is announced, the same applies to the new stand in St Conleths in Newbridge and Walsh Park in Waterford. Now the Offaly game was in all probability the last Leinster championship match to be played there in its current guise but let's hope we have a Super 8 game to play there before we say farewell

When you are pulling any place apart with the intention of rebuilding and need a home in the meantime there never is a right time. You just have to bite the bullet, make the decision and get on with it. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 1080 - 22/05/2019 10:47:12 2186554 Link 0 |
I'm not too worried myself to be honest, priority is to actually get the place up to scratch, which hopefully will happen over the next couple of years. Personally I do like a terrace at either end, great for the summer, but stands are much more ideal for the winter/spring games. This is why I thought a stand at either side would be a huge bonus, never thought they were planning 4 stands! Htaem (Meath) - Posts: 8657 - 22/05/2019 11:20:50 2186564 Link 17 |

I agree, however it is in the Leinster council's hand and some of what they come up with is mindboggling. You also have a situation where Croke Park cannot open for many matches because their overheads are so high.

I see confirmation that the development will start on the terrace side, and that Croke Park have us submitted as the number 1 project for funding which is very positive. With the terrace out of action we are going to have a very restricted capacity, I think the stand side can only hold 4,500 at present, some temporary accommodation maybe? The biggest problem is the current stand and they start with knocking down the fit for use terrace. Barney123 (Meath) - Posts: 676 - 28/05/2019 07:31:42 2188389 Link 18 |
So what is the latest on the proposed development? When, if, how much of it and how much will it cost? madmeath (Meath) - Posts: 83 - 28/07/2019 00:13:54 2217353 Link 0 |
I have being posting this since I heard that the fit for use terrace is the first to go...seems stupid so we must have money to burn.
