Also I think when developing players, some counties have focused too much on S & C.The skills of a player are vital and I hope we don't forget that, but yeah its amazing how only this year we have S & C at underage level.I just hope its done correctly because we have no problem with ability of players at underage.

The tension is building up big time for this one can't wait until it's underway. Nerves are shot though Louth are coming in under the radar like snakes in the grass! This is the real battle of the boyne not like the buildup to 2010 where we were expected to win and win well. I expect us to be dominant in midfield with Harry Rooney getting the better of Stewart and Califf.

Haven't heard from anyone since they got back from Portugal ziggy but all should be well yes, barring any mishaps over there. dunboynelad (Meath) - Posts: 227 - 02/06/2016 11:10:48 1860813 Link 0 |
Problem with Jones is the fact that he has zero experience.Wouldn't be surprised if he made his debut this summer,I always rather someone like that get that experience in the league. I would play Cian O'Brien with Rooney in midfield and use Jones as a possiblity to replace one of them later, but would have rathered he got some minutes in the league.Throwing Joey Wallace into the fire of the championship did him little good, his brother played league games before his debut in the champ. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 02/06/2016 13:23:04 1860870 Link 2 |
Louth were 4/1 to win that day in 2010. I suppose with Meath scoring 5 goals against the Dubs in the semi finals confidence would of been sky high. Louth,s Paddy Keenan and Brian White was a great partnership in the middle of the pitch to get us to the Leinster final. White was man of the match against Kildare in the Q/F and Keenan was man of the match against Westmeath in the S/F. White had a nightmare of a Leinster final missing frees he would of expected to score.

Louth will want to keep it tight for first 40/50 minutes, if they are close or ahead with 20 minutes to go we will see if hangover from Westmeath game is still there. Its a game this team cannot afford to loose, another set back and season is over. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2212 - 02/06/2016 15:21:20 1860915 Link 2 |
S&C, and skill are all well and good but courage when the going gets tough is critical. Boylans teams had it in spades. In fact one of Boylans greatest skills as a manager was his ability to pick ordinary players with loads of heart to mould teams that were incredibly tough to beat. bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1819 - 02/06/2016 22:14:29 1861048 Link 1 |
That is very true Bert..you can have all the skills and fitness in the world but if your not willing to put your body on the line your not worth a dam sadly at county level !

WhyTheLongFace- There are lots of lads playing junior football who would put their bodies on the line but that is of little use if you do not have the skills, ability to go along with it. In Sean's Boylan's era their were players with loads of skill and we had some of the best midfielders in the country along with at least 3 of the best forwards in the country with some very good defenders -guys who could defend. We have problems in all the areas mentioned. Making comparisons with present is of little use as the game as moved on somewhat (whether for good or bad). There were players in that era who would have serious problems with the pace of the present game and not to mention the number of cameras /officials in communication around the pitch which may would have caused lots of players around the country some problems. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 03/06/2016 10:49:53 1861126 Link 2 |

Fantastic! A great addition. I would say it was probably brought in at the same time as the like and reply post button. royaldunne will now have an outlet for when he wakes up in the middle of the night during a nightmare where Westmeath come back from 10 points down to beat us only this time it's in a Leinster final! Ok guys who are Meaths 3 key players going into this game and why? ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 03/06/2016 14:30:04 1861238 Link 2 |
Keoghan, Rooney & Graham Reilly. Simply put - if those 3 play well, we'll win IMO. BarneysTie (Meath) - Posts: 262 - 03/06/2016 14:40:03 1861241 Link 0 |
Agreed, but my three key men are.. 1.Michael Newman - A lot of responsibility on his shoulders, but he is our best goal scorer. Not only that, but depending how he does on frees may decide the game. 2.Padraic Harnan - This assuming he plays at 6.This has been a problem area for years for Meath. But he has a good game in this position again it will go a long way to winning. 3.Harry Rooney - If he dominates midfield,we should have enough to win the game. ziggy32001 (Meath) - Posts: 8354 - 03/06/2016 14:57:14 1861248 Link 2 |
