Totally agree! Been saying it for years about Reilly. I know it sounds mad but I wouldn't start him against Dublin. Would prefer to bring him on later in the game. bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1819 - 13/06/2016 12:19:48 1866079 Link 0 |
Midfield is a problem for us. O Brien is a great prospect. Would have liked to see Ronan Jones come on yesterday bert09 (Meath) - Posts: 1819 - 13/06/2016 12:21:45 1866080 Link 0 |
McGill was still in a sling,so looks unlikely.

If McEntee is fit I would start him in the half forward line.

But would McEntee either score or assist be it through powering through and setting up players for a simple point or been fouled for a easy free to the total of 9 points? That is the question that must be asked, its called cutting your nose of to spite your face, by all means bring in McEntee but id drop McDonagh tormey any day ahead of someone who either scores or sets up 45% of our total tally royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 13/06/2016 13:58:38 1866160 Link 0 |
I agree with you with regard to biggy setting up and scoring points but the role of a half forward is not all about scoring there is defensive duties that are required and sadly biggy is performing these duties on numerous occasions yesterday his man got ahead of him setting up and scoring points with biggy still positioned in his half forward position. To me he looked like a player who was either carrying an injury or a bit unfit

Exactly you can't say cause a guy scores a few points that it excuses his defensive duties and thats what RD does, its a serious problem in Reillys game and if he does that against Dublin we are inn huge trouble.

Thought full back line did extremely well yesterday along with Harnan who puts his body on the line. Douglas looked good and Smyth had his hands full with Duffy but only scored 1pt before he was blackcarded. Our problem is midfield, to me Harry a lot of good things but runs out of steam way too easily for a young lad. O'Brien didn't have a great game yesterday and for me would have been least productive on team but is probably our only option going forward. Newman performed well with freetaking apart from silly miss from left but does not contribute enough from play and very seldom wins his own ball, comes off his chest or just can't control. Dalton had a stinker yesterday and when the rot starts it very seldom changes in a match, time will tell for him. Tormey had a very good game yesterday, 3pts from play and quick passes which resulted in scores. He worked very hard defending at will, overturned several potential runs from halfback line. Wallace and O'Sullivan (picked up vital ball around middle) very good and work well coming from deep and splitting the defence. O'Sullivan can be guilty of running into tackles at times instead of taking the option to pass and run for overlap, but we need these two lads to keep the pressure on against Dublin. Biggy has to start against Dublin and if he is not performing well then take him off but he is always a treat and can take his points. Guilty of stopping when he thinks he is being fouled even before ref has blown his whistle, but Dublin will not foul as much as Louth did yesterday. Subs: 2 of my own Clubmen came on and am delighted to see but not sure if either should start next day. Sean Tobin in my opinion is probably better option that Lenihan. castleroyal (Meath) - Posts: 57 - 13/06/2016 16:14:20 1866263 Link 0 |
I'm not denying that one bit, he seemed to be conserving his energy, perhaps it was a gamble to play him, but it paid off, now I agree 100% he seemed either unfit, or carrying a knock, (once its not the back injury again) but also McDonagh, Wallace and tormey seemed to tire as game progressed and apart from Wallace all were replaced. Now I am willing to give mod the benefit of the doubt here and say that perhaps it was a hard weeks training with a couple of knocks, but nothing serious and they were worth their place as injuries would not be exasperated, only a bit sore or stiff, that could be subbed when needed

Ziggy the object is to score more than opposition Imo. I dont do damage limitations, drop biggy and we start at maybe minus 6/7/8 points, that is ludicrous to suggest by anyone's standard, yes McCaffrey may get 2/3 points from him not tracking back enough, but that's still plus 3/4/5 for us. Rather than him not been on, actually if I was mod I wouldn't let him go back id send McDonagh or tormey back instead and just leave him on half forward line / midfield to pick up a quick ball after a turn over, with mccafrey or whoever up near our goal end, certain point or maybe more, the suggestion was made before to name him as a corner forward and let him drift out to , but no running back duties, which I think is a no brainer , hopefully this is what happens

Actually that is my one thing with biggy, he will stop when been fouled before ref blows up, now sometimes it will work as ref will think its definitely a free, but other times (like once yesterday) ref wont buy it and possession gets turned over, he has done this for years, and I think he should just keep pushing on rather than try to buy the free if you like.

So basically if Reilly gets a score, but lets his man get forward to get a score thats fine?

Look I'm not having a go, I just think we need his leadership and above all his scoring and setting up scores in our biggest game we have played in many years, it would ease a hell of a lot of hurt if we were to beat the juggernaut in their back garden and dent their 2 in a row, lets be honest Dublin think they only have to turn up, I want us to bloody win, I have been a huge critic of mod since the disasters against Armagh (championship) and Westmeath in particular , but if he can win this one then alot , not all (never forgive loosing to the weaties) will be forgiven and he will get another year without a doubt. I dont do moral victories I want to shove it done the arrogant jackeens throats that you NEVER take Meath for granted. This is it after 4 years of hurt I want to beat them, id give up my kidney (the good one for this) I want our beat players to play , and biggy is one of our best players and the one who could just do something extra special (remember 10 v dubs? ) he had a field day, that game v Westmeath where he lobbed connaughton? That huge kick into kenny in 10,? Ok it didn't end good but Seamus should have fisted it over bar. But I want to win against these lot, I want it more than life , and bloody hell if we do it ill streak through croke park, and no steward will stop me.
