Some interesting takes on orourkes stint with meath. He did blood some of the lads we have now but he also did inherit a team with many men that were naturally going to be moved on anyway. He also did have a poor championship and league and won a secondary comp we realistically don't give a hoot about.

In my opinion if you flipped the managers around nothing would change in terms of the levels each team got to. Brennan would have moved lads on and targeted tailteann and if O'Rourke inherited the team Brennan got with the new rules the likelihood we would have been good enough to get a run in championship.

I do believe Brennan has something about him that he could push them on a bit further than they're at now.

Some of the comments on this forum simply don't make sense.

The suggestion that Bryan Menton might not return because of a lack of belief in our set up is being a bit over the top, I think. At his age (36, very old in football), it's entirely possible his body mightn't feel up for it. I'm not saying it's entirely impossible about the lack of belief but to assume that way is a bit reckless.

Yes, Colm did blood players (the potential of most of them obvious due to underage exploits) but the most important thing in football, the results, were not good. We won a secondary competition that we shouldn't have been in only for a disastrous result against Offaly in Leinster (not saying it's not to be celebrated, but we shouldn't have been there), had two bad league campaigns in 2023 and 2024 narrowly avoiding relegation, and then a dire Championship where there was little to no performance or improvement between games. I remember the sheer depression watching us being pummeled by Kerry and show no fight against Monaghan.

Improvement is needed in plenty of areas but there are plenty of things to be optimistic about. Football has been revitalized in this county thanks to Robbie Brennan and more importantly the players. We were lost against Mayo after getting a phony sending off, and Westmeath went on to win the competition. The Cork defeat is the one that stings worse. Our performances have improved steadily after the Westmeath low point.

On a side note lads, just saw the new home kit. Darker green. It's alright I suppose, but a darker green doesn't sit as right with me. Preferred last years one if I'm honest

Replying To RoyalStalwart24:  "Totally agree, even the u20s from last year were hardly brought in. I think Jamie Murphy ultimately got 4 minutes of game time against Kildare when the game was already one. We've had plenty of promising players coming through, but we mostly stuck to the same personnel we had in 2025. That's why the League, and to an extent the O'Byrne Cup, is important to establish these players. Colm O'Rourke, for all his many flaws, did give young lads plenty of game time and established them in the long run - they just needed a manager who connected well with them. If we can adequately combine our underage players coming through and the current squad we have, it's another small step in the right direction."
100% agree - I would say that Menton has had probably his best years under RB so can't imagine him being anything but positive about the set-up. Anyone paying a half bit of attention to the players can see that they enjoy working with RB. I don't understand why some supporters have a tendency to knock the current set up and hark back to previous regimes. But I guess that is what you get with a cross-section of supporters - some outlandish opinions and you can hear it for yourself in the stands and terraces. I'm a big Meath supporter but have very little bias towards any of the clubs, players or management - I just want to see us play positive, smart, winning football.

Not sure where that text came from that I'm supposedly replying to - just to clarify, I was replying to agree with RoyalStalwart's comment about some of the comments on this forum not making sense!

It's the sponsor for me, its so alien on that shirt. I wish they would colour grade the logo to allow it to blend in with the shirt. Otherwise I actually think it's a really nice shirt.

Yeah, it does stick out like a sore thumb

Some of the posts here are such over the top wind ups.
Ah yeah, while (under Brennan), we did reach an All Ireland semi final, won a division 2 title, got promoted for only the second time in 20 years, beat Dublin, Kerry and Galway (and Derry for the first time in god knows when) along the way, I also pine for COR's tenure when we hit the heights of being knocked out by Offaly, being beaten by Dublin, Kerry and Louth by 10+ points, winning a total of 4 league games in two seasons and one championship game (against Longford) in two seasons (not including the Tailteann). They were heady days, for sure.

Finally, a voice of reason and sense. While there is always room for improvement, Brennan's tenure has been hugely successful. We need to back him and the team.

I think while the championship was quite disappointing, every game could have gone either way and some of the football while patchy was excellant at times. I think people are also forgetting that Meath had really tough away draws in every game played in championship and not being able to play Westmeath in Navan was also a hindrance. Defensively things improved a bit in the end and the squad is by and large young with further room for improvement. Getting the injured players back for championship will be crucial.

Unbelievable. Apparently it is confirmed that Cork will host Meath on the opening day of the Allianz Football League. Back to Páirc Uí Rinn we go.

It just had to be! That's not ideal at all. That is one of the most important fixtures we have and we really would've wanted that at home in Croker

I'm hearing that we have Donegal away in the third round, and the Rossies in Croker at some stage
