Replying To gwanyagudthing:  "Said it before, Smyth should be a starter - clearly at the right level and is an athlete. Other observations - Jones must not be ready for it, togged out but saw no action.
Also surprised O'Neill only got a few mins as a blood sub - management obviously rate Charlie O'Connor. Credit to all involved - they got most things right."
He is an excellent player but he should be making a difference for 10mins when others are tired.he adds a bit of oomph but subs should.he wont start in front of caulfield keoghegan or coffey snf is not an option for full back line.let him develop.he will be starting soon enough....keoghegan wont start in full backk line either..delighted for meath.a great yr so far with promotion and one more win to quarter final

Great result and execution of the game plan. Few of the lads were missing points in the first half they would normally take in their sleep but that can happen and it could have been far better at half time. Big concern for me is Morris had completely gone cold. Was not at the races or involved for the majority of the match. Movement was very predictable.

I would agree with lot of this but do you not think he could do a job in the full back line? I know he's a wing back but I'd be finding a way of getting him into the team. Full back line is just way too loose this year.

I agree, he's 23 not a lad just coming out of the u20s. He's both a good defender and good at getting involved in the play. Don't see why he can't play corner back.

I decided to not watch the game as I was at a function, I since have watched it back in full.

I am delighted we got a win. On paper that was a very tricky assignment and any time you beat a Ulster side at home, especially in a knockout game it's an achievement. All sides left in the comp would have been happy with a 4 point win.

I thought our midfielders had a real swagger. It's a long time since I seen out midfield almost dominate or bully. Wastteful in the first half and we did cough up some goal chances. But we live to fight another day, we earned the right to extend our season and it gives them more chances to improve.

Smyth had a coming of age performance. Flynn 0-3, menton 0-3, keoghan 1-2. Just fantastic especially from the two old dogs. I thought caufield was just a dynamo. I would not be against smyth starting wing back and caufield be a working half forward.

Home draw please.

Fair enough, he does look more like a wing back in fairness and don't see Keogan or Coffey moving out of there. How did we line up when he came on against Derry? Keogan went into corner?

On Jones Robbie Brennan said On a interview that "he was thinking of bringing on but he wasn't needed" So maybe he is not far away but. I hope I am wrong but given Jones injury history hard to see him getting a run. But fair play to Jones for sticking with the past few years must though on him physically and mentally.

Probably treating him as a wildcard - would throw him in if momentum was against us but won't risk him otherwise. Good man to have around anyway.

Very enjoyable trip (although long) up to Derry, very enjoyable game and overall a good Meath performance on the whole, some silly mistakes caused the game to be closer than it probably should have been. On another note Derry is a great city to stay in and the Derry people were so welcoming and gracious afterwards.

Great to have a good experience, I think by and large we are all the same just wear different Jerseys.
