young charlie twomey played class for kells only 17 scored 1-2 and scored 0-1 off bench in first round should be considered for the meath u20s or 19s

I know Dunshaughlin are missing Gray and Kinsella but they still have Costello, O Connor and Duke who will all need to play really well for the rest of the championship.

Ratoath and Tones are a bit a head of the pack at the minute, both are stronger than last year. Summerhill have come back a bit, losing Ryan and Flanagan has just made them a little vulnerable."
Flanagan came on today and dominated. Summerhilll don't look vulnerable at all. Barry Dardis is moving better than he has in years, the two Frayne's destroyed Dunboyne.

Agree on Dardis he was so impressive and certainly rolled back the years. Dunboyne were bad beyond belief all can't be right there. Two of their young lads went off with serious enough looking knee injuries so wish them all the best. Summerhill wont be far away.

Summerhill and Ratoath looking odds on for a sFC Final with Tones and maybe Kells pushing them a bit. Don/ash throwing hat in the ring and I think Dunshaughlin bit better than that result.
Simonstown look to be in real danger but they might take Na Fianna when chips are down, but looking like Kilbride to do like Meath Hill and slip straight down.
IFC
Oldcastle seem to be displaying good form but Ballivor seem to be in a mess. Castletown can't be written off and Meath Hill but only if Breslin fit are in with a shout. Moynalvey seem to be slipping and Duleek nowhere near the team of few years ago. Pats might spring a surprise as OMahonys can't be ruled out.
Ballivor look In trouble
JFC
Curraha I think will bounce back up. St Vincent's, Slane look in best spot to challenge
Relegation is a real battle Dunderry, st Brigids and maybe Moylagh are teams looking in trouble
JBFC
Kilmainhamwood and Kilmainham look certain to clash in final with maybe Kilmainham to go back Junior

Hard to disagree with anything summerised here. Ratoath and Summerhill who look better than last year will be hard stopped. Seems to be three tiers in senior now.
Intermediate championship has four or five teams that wouldn't stand out in Junior and is well below Senior Standard.
Slane have been most consistant junior team but perhaps curraha have greatest scope for improvement. Moriarty as really top for for Curraha and seems to be their main man ahead of McEntee and JOC.
Relegation battle always very intriguing in Junior.
Junior B very competitive. Looks like Moynalty with 3 adult teams and a high profile management are going to fail to get to knockouts. Cortown could be dangerous in knockouts. Kilmainhamwood with a huge win over Moynalty. Good to see Clonard on the up again after a few tough years.

Some finish in Trim today. Seneschalstown will be kicking themselves with how wasteful they were, particularly in the first half. Think they had nearly 20 wides in total. But fair play to Ballinabrackey. When they lost the 9 point lead so early in the second half, you felt there'd only be one winner, but they dug in and kept taking their chances when they came and didn't let their heads drop. Great to see Damien Carroll and Juicy O'Connor roll back the years with the last two points to seal the win. Seneschalstown now guaranteed to be in the relegation playoff but they should have enough to survive.

Comfortable win against Trim for us means that top spot is guaranteed with a game to spare which may give at least some of the dual players a game off. Think Tones are also now guaranteed to finish top of their group. Summerhill are still the team to beat, I feel.

Yeah worrying for Dunboyne, they play with no spirit at all. The draw against Rathkenny in round 1 was miraculous, Rathkenny somehow found a way not to win that game. They have a big injury list but that's no excuse with the amount of players they have to choose from. I actually fancy Kilbride to beat them now and i wouldn't rule out relegation.

Yee seem to be flying, Ratoath Royal, are definitely the team to beat at the minute.

Great battle in Trim yesterday. That pass from Carroll up the line to Juicy, and then the carry and finish off the left peg, was something special. Two great warriors and club servants who've been at it since their U12 days.

I think it's time we followed the hurling model and split it into Senior A and Senior B. It's worked brilliantly on the hurling side.

Some of the hammerings we've been seeing aren't doing anyone any favours, neither the teams winning nor the teams on the receiving end.

Works both ways though, there's a handful of Senior teams that wouldn't stand out at Intermediate. The drop off between the best teams and the rest is pretty substantial.

But yes Ratoath and Summerhill will have it between them, Tones and Kells will push them.

Intermediate you could name 5/6 teams all in with a shout, hard to call at this stage. But Oldcastle, Meath Hill and probably St Pat's look the early front runners.

Junior A: Everyone keeps saying Curraha, but they've been only okay, they don't look anything special at the grade and wouldn't be surprised if Slane or Vincents win out.

Junior B: Kilmainhamwood to me still look like they can go all the way, Rian Stafford back too, looks like it'll be between them and Kilmainham

One thing that struck me watching club matches over the weekend is that we have 4 teams too many in both senior and intermediate grades. A lot of teams sole ambition is to survive relegation, what's the point in that?. If you have no chance of winning you shouldn't be in that grade is my honest opinion.

This is my summary of the groups and all the permutations:

Group A - Summerhill have already qualified for the knockout stages and Rathkenny are all but assured to advance due to their score difference compared to Dunboyne's dreadful ratio. Unless Summerhill destroy Rathkenny and Dunboyne pummel Kilbride nothing will change. Kilbride need to beat Dunboyne to avoid the relegation playoffs, while Dunboyne will be desperate to put up a score against them to get a chance to make the Quarter Finals. It's not out of the realm of possibility but I struggle to see Rathkenny losing by more than 7-8 points against Summerhill.

Group B - Ratoath are obviously already through and unless Na Fianna create the mother of all shocks against them they are condemned to the relegation stages. Again, not out of the realm of possibility if Ratoath don't play their best team, but extremely unlikely. Trim and Skryne is a very interesting game, a direct playoff for qualification to the knockout stages. Trim will probably be favorites but Skryne will believe they can win against them - a draw no good for Skryne of course, so Skryne will have to go all out. A fixture to watch out for.

Group C - It's a similar situation in this group. Seneschalstown are all but into the relegation playoffs unless they upset an already through Wolfe Tones. St Colmcille's and Ballinabrackey then have another playoff to get into the knockout rounds - another interesting game to watch. Cilles of course are ahead on score difference and a draw would suit them just fine.

Group D - Gaeil Colmcille are all but through bar a score difference disaster against Dunshaughlin, who are in a bad situation themselves. They must beat Kells, and more than likely will have to beat them well, which is unlikely considering their great form. With Ashbourne more than likely going to beat Simonstown (and likely by a large margin), even if Dunshaughlin beat Kells they more than likely won't go through. Dunshaughlin might need to beat Kells by a very, very large margin, or beat Kells and pray Simonstown do them a favor - not exactly something you want to be relying on. Simonstown are pretty much gone unless there is a miraculous score difference reversal against Ashbourne.

100% agree, I'd go as far to say there are 8 teams too many in senior. It is severely diluted and the group stages are not competitive anymore. Someone mentioned previously about splitting it into Senior A and B, this would be a great idea but the county board are likely too backwards to implement this as nobody wants their own team demoted/regraded. Was at intermediate game over the weekend and standard was dreadful, my own club were playing and they would probably struggle to win the junior championship but probably wont even get relegated from intermediate as there are so many other poor teams. Complete regrading needed throughout, shouldn't be any more than 8-10 teams in each grade.

You may not be taking into consideration what the permutations rules are.
If more than two teams are tied on points, it comes down to score difference between those teams, not overall score difference of an all the teams in the group. For instance in Group D, Dunshaughlin only need to beat Kells by 4 points and Dunshaughlin go through with Ashbourne if they beat Simonstown. (So not by the very large margin you say).

''Dunboyne will be desperate to put up a score against them to get a chance to make the Quarter Final'' They are 35 points behind Rathkenny, not even their most optimistic of players would believe that's possible to claw back. They just need to not lose to Kilbride to avoid relegation playoffs. The way they are playing at the moment, they could easily lose to Kilbride. No doubt Kilbride with throw everything into this game given its a local derby.

The Mahneys can take a lot of confidence from their redemtion preformance again Longwood. Twelve different O'Mahonys players got on the scoresheet. That's not a team performance, that's basically an office sweepstake where everyone wins.

A few notable omissions from the mahneys starting XV (Niall Devlin etc) clearly showed that they were more than comfortable to rotate given the perceived lesser opposition. Looks like the town men are certain to go through now given they play bective in the last round and will likely be a case of just having to show up with the bare 15 to secure their place in the next round. Whos going to stop them?
