Senior Hurling Championship 25

Replying To Tobefair80:  "I don't disagree that Ratoath should win the championship next year because they have the best team in the county at the moment but it all comes down to hunger and what players are available to them. Same with any of the top 4.
To say trim and kildalkey are fading back into the pack is a bit far fetched. They both had their reasons for being below their capabilities this year but write either of them off at your peril.
On any given day they can beat eachother or anyone else in the county.
Hoping for a better championship next year with a bit more quality."
Ratoath very much deserving champions this year but hunger is a big thing. If Trim can convince a few players to return they could be very dangerous. I wonder will Kildalkey fall further back or is there still a kick in there " older " players who still are very much capable.
Kiltale were a missed pick from winning the championship so write them off at your peril!
Kilmessan just missing a few older players but they will get there

While we obviously will be favourites in 2026, it's lunacy to write any of the other big teams off. Trim were there or thereabouts for most of the semi final against us until we got our few quick goals to kill them off. If they have players returning, they'll have a great chance. Kiltale should have beaten us the first day out in the final and will take encouragement from that for 2026. Kilmessan look like they're improving and hard to know where Kildalkey will be but wouldn't write them off.

We're the first team to go back to back since Kiltale's great 5-in-a-row team but I still think we're a long way off their quality. They seemed to have an aura of invincibility at the time and were dreadfully unlucky, in my view, not to win at least one Leinster title (think they narrowly lost to the Kilkenny champions in successive seasons where both went on to win the All Ireland).

definitely appear to be better crowds at the games I've been at. New format really puts pressure on. With Kildalkey losing 2 games, they are going to find it hard to qualify. So that leaves 4 teams left for 3 spots.
I was at Kilmessan / Kiltale and Kimessan completely took over for 20 minutes of 1st half which ultimalety won them the game. The 2nd half was very poor I thought and Kiltale hit an amazing amount of wides.
Trim the team to beat at this point although their game vs Ratoath will have a say in the final standings

Any early front runners for the Meath Hurling Job? Another Westmeath man in Dermody maybe?

It was so bizarre and out of the blue to see Johnny leaving, and he's done a great job in my opinion. While it's certainly a shame we obviously respect his decision and the need to spend time with his family.

I'd say another out of county manager. We don't really have great hurling management infrastructure here.

What about the Under 20 manager Sean Corrigan. Done i think 3 years with the 20s and had a good campaign in the leinster proper this year and all the young lads on the Meath team would have played under him at under 20 level. Plus he was selector with the seniors this year

Most definitely bold move by the Hurling clubs to agree to it but the crazy situation of 12 out of 20 Hurling Clubs being Senior was nuts that would equate to having 36 Senior Football Clubs in Meath.

Bound to improve standard of games and time will tell if the County can do likewise

Well I guess it was brave. Although if Kildalkey get relegated this year, it's the last of the senior clubs who have hung in through good times and bad. Kildalkey became senior in 1972 and were never rekegated from senior in the intervening year. Every other hurling g club in meaths was relegated at some point, even trim , in 1970s

I don't see Kildalkey losing to Na Fianna.

Kildalkey must have been relegated at some point before the 70s if they won a senior in the 1950s?

Ye I think they came up senior in late 40s but were relegated quick enough after that final in 51. Spent most of the 60s in intermediate. The intermediate final that was abandoned was in 63, it was 8 years in 1971 before they won intermediate

I'd hazard a guess that Kilmessan are senior since before that. The only gap in the records I have access to is from 1978 to 1983. But tje only way they could have not been senior at that time is if they asked to be regraded immediately after winning 3 SHCs in a row, and then got promoted back to senior within 2 years without even winning Intermediate. Seems unlikely.

Kilmessan are Senior since 1961, Kildalkey since 1972 and Trim since 1974, I would guess Killyon 4th with Kiltale 5th, both also since the 70s.
