Replying To Ollie2:  "The 3 matches in 1997 with Meath and Kildare were something else. Them matches finally caught up with Meath with the Royals losing to Offaly in the Leinster final."
Talk that attendance figures for both leinster semis combined won't reach 20,000??

Thought Dublin v Meath in portlaoise would hit that alone, Kildare v Louth well supported too, scary.

GAA facing huge challenge to turn this attendance slump around

Figures certainly are not encouraging for semi finals in regional venues.

I think there are a few reasons at play from the obvious one of lack of provincial interest in last few years.

Louth v Kildare should have been in Navan - much more convenient with both teams north/south of the county. Meath v Dublin should have been in Tullamore. Arguably straight run for both sets of supporters. Smaller stadiums also drive a demand for a sellout which would make a punters mind up of attending.

A bigger, more human influence is how fast these games get run off after a league. It's almost week on week. Very hard in today's society to commit to county games when they are so condensed in the calendar. I'd love to make every game but simply cannot as life gets in the way. I'm sure I'm not alone in this no matter all the support I'd love to give.

That is the ballsiest performance I've seen from any Meath team at any level in at least a decade.

At long last, they really wanted it today and deserved the win. Dub's a shadow of the great team .Hopefully a reset in Leinster.

Brilliant performance . I didn't expect it. Previous managers said Meath didn't have the players. What will they say now

Ballsiest is best description. They continued to take the brave option, even when it got down to 2 point lead. That's what won it for us. Incredible day.

Most encouraging thing for me was that it wasn't perfect. You would have thought beforehand that to win, we would need to be perfect, take all our chances and hang on, but there were plenty of errors, some poor shot selection, bad handling and fist passes etc but they dug it out and completely deserved the win!!

Also thought Matthew Costelloe was best player on the pitch, by a distance.

Replying To thelutch:  "Expect us to have a right good go against a Dublin team who have slipped to about the 5th/6th best team in the country.

We will have to be very disciplined in defence as the Dubs half forward line are very experienced and patient in possession, definitely have to go plus one on O Callaghan , Our first aim must be to stop Dublin scoring goals, they are not blessed with players to kick 2 pointers.
Think we can target their kick outs too, their midfield pairing are not contributing to the scoreboard at all.

With the exception of my favourites for Sam ( Galway ) who won comfortably the other games are definitely not as one sided as before so new rules have definitely margined the gap in winning score lines. Donegal my second favourites had to hold off a late flourish from Monaghan to win by 2. Cork should have turned over Kerry ? As we all know championship and league football are completely different competitions.

Saying that I am just hopeful of a good performance , not expecting a win but am expecting a battle, that's the least we should be getting from our lads on Sunday, defend as a unit and try hit them on the counters and from our own kick outs/set plays.0

If RB is as good as what people think, he should have a very good plan in place for the weekend and try frustrate the dubs by keeping 12 inside our 45 when not in position. Get the match ups right and just give it a go. Will need 20 players going full tilt over the 70 minutes. Be in the game with ten minutes to go. That should be our aim."
Replying to my own post.

Well done RB, great game plan, great bravery.

Great win for these bunch of lads, Jones coming on in the last ten minutes was great to see.

As I said above, Dubs not blessed with two pointer players.

Unlucky with the goal as we were in position and a simple turnover, massive save from billy Hogan at a crucial stage, so many games game changer moments BUT we won, and its a great day

Class, can't even choose between a man of the match. One of the best days out watching this team. A mix of bravery, grit and class. Onto Louth, they've had us on the little pitch of Iniskeen, wait till matty costello starts running at them with all the space of croke park they won't know what's coming!

What a game. Didn't even start cheering until the last 5 minutes i was so sure we were going to lose it. I would say there were only about 3000 Meath fans in Portlaoise maybe this is just the shot in the arm the support base needs to get behind the team

Costello was great but Frayne, Banty and Caulfield were better today.

Would have been happy with a competitive performance. It wasn't until the last minute when we won possession in our own defence that it hit me that we would win it. An utterly immense performance. The first half was impressive, but to actually see it out in the face of the onslaught after the goal showed how far Robbie has brought this team along in just a few months.

Won nothing yet! Undoubtedly Louth will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing us rather than Dublin. Robbie has probably drilled it into the players to leave the celebrations in Portlaoise and focus solely on two weeks time.
