Out of curiosity what is the difference in resources provided for underage football and hurling development squads in Meath?. Is it lack of access to facilities in Dunganny?. Potentially there is bound to be a decent cross over of underage players that could play in both development squads, can players play in both squads the whole way up?. If they can play in both squads is it set up to make it practical for them to do both (session times etc.?). GreenMan1987 (Meath) - Posts: 58 - 23/03/2025 08:45:48 2597895 Link 0 |

What got me thinking about this was talking to a Tipperary man at work who said the Tipperary minor footballers who won the All Ireland in 2011 contained 8 inter county minor hurlers and how people down there had different opinions about underage dual inter county players. Decent start for the Minor hurlers. Nearly pulled off a great result. What is even better is that they were the better team on the day. hedgefund (Meath) - Posts: 16 - 25/03/2025 14:53:03 2598557 Link 0 |
I see the winners of the IHC this year are down to play in the Leinster "Special" Junior Hurling Championship. Better chance of winning that I suppose, though there's no All Ireland competition at that level. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1677 - 05/04/2025 20:26:44 2600675 Link 0 |
Meath hurling will make great progress in that competition all right.Offaly,Laois and Westmeath's third tier teams are playing a higher grade.Ye have serious ambition for hurling in Meath. For crying out loud reform the SH championship.Meath don't have 12 senior hurling teams and enter your IHC champions in the junior proper and improve.

Everybody wants this in meath bar the bottom 4 teams in our senior championship , they will never agree to it. A senior championship of 6 or 8 teams max , look at the beatings the likes of bhg got last year , waiste of time. hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 429 - 09/04/2025 15:58:39 2601255 Link 0 |
Well isnt It time the Kildalkeys,Trims and Rathoaths of this world demanded better competition so they can improve. What good is it to get 30 points hammerings just to say we are a senior club.It might not seem like it but we need Meath to improve as our hurling pockets are beside each other.

Are you not aware that the senior hurling championship has been changed and will take a different format next year reverting to 6 senior teams following the conclusion of this years championship. Rickoshay (Meath) - Posts: 40 - 10/04/2025 08:56:05 2601330 Link 0 |
There is no appetite from the county board for hurling. Simple as. You have small clubs in rural areas trying to field teams whilst the county board allowed another football club in one of the most highly populated areas in the country. You have to ask how come a hurling teams wasn't set up in Bettystown laytown Julianstown area. Rickoshay (Meath) - Posts: 40 - 10/04/2025 09:03:39 2601331 Link 0 |
Is there any hurling being offered in primary schools on that side? Correct me if I'm wrong, but are Wolfe Tones and St Pats the only hurling clubs east of Navan? That really is a disgrace. Kids, if exposed to it, love playing hurling and like everything else becomes trendy if the rest of their pals are playing it too. Needs to start at the bottom but very difficult to start a club up if the base structure is not there. I wouldn't be sure what the ambition of Eastern Gaels is in that regard but it would require big assistance from the county board. How likely is that?! Let's hope we put up a good performance and get over London hurlingcowboy101 (Meath) - Posts: 28 - 11/04/2025 11:56:55 2601491 Link 0 |
See the panel is released for the first match. Cant really argue with the starting 15. Irish_downunder (Meath) - Posts: 650 - 11/04/2025 14:48:15 2601516 Link 0 |
The result might indicate something different.

At the game over the weekend and London were much the better team and will be one of the favorites to win it out now because there isn't much quality in this years championship. Meath are in a bad place and i don't see things changing any time soon unfortunately. Tobefair80 (Meath) - Posts: 83 - 14/04/2025 09:23:07 2601780 Link 0 |
You're not the only one to notice this. 5 goals speaks for itself. There's a few out injured but I believe there are 5 from Kilskyre/Moylough on the panel at the moment. They didn't make it out of the Intermediate B group last year. If management can't give James Murray a run they don't know what they're doing and should step down, he's head and shoulders above everyone in the county at the moment, James Kelly a class act too. begining (UK) - Posts: 319 - 14/04/2025 10:18:12 2601790 Link 0 |
the performance was a shambles. say what you like about bringing younger lads through and looking for talent at lower levels, but I agree, there has to be a better way of lining the team out there. Lads being played in positions that don't suit them at club level, not to mind at intercounty level. Things immediately a little more stable with D Kelly's introduction at half time. They would be better served looking at the 4 senior club semi-finalists and getting a squad from there, than the intermediate grade. Way too many there to expect a higher quality performance Glaringly obvious vs Kildare that the team had no pace, especially up front. Same story at the weekend. London's forwards were exceptional with real hurling talent - no Meath player in that league. Full forward was Kilkenny minor / u20 but I dont know where the other 2 lads were from originally. Think their wing back was a Cork minor. And tehy are missing Jack Goulding this year. Plenty lads on the bench that are better options, many improved things towards the end but the game was well gone. Anyone notice a #27 on the bench - current Na Fianna (Dublin) wing / corner forward with brilliant natural touch and good pace - would surely add to the set up but not given a chance yet. All-ireland club medal in his back pocket. Instead we are looking at lads taking 3, 4, 5 touches to get a ball into the hand, and then moaning about getting a slap. hurlingcowboy101 (Meath) - Posts: 28 - 14/04/2025 10:57:39 2601798 Link 0 |
Have to agree , very strange team selection , lots of players out of position , much better lads sat on the bench. hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 429 - 14/04/2025 11:02:30 2601801 Link 0 |
I guess you could argue that Greville's links to Kildalkey give him both inside and outside status. The coach is from Wicklow with some limited experience with Dublin clubs. Greville must lean on his selectors for guidance but if they are pushing players from their own lower grade clubs, then it's not going to end well. Would he not be better served with a representative from Ratoath, Kiltale, Kilmessan to help his rep from Kildalkey? hurlingcowboy101 (Meath) - Posts: 28 - 14/04/2025 11:54:40 2601819 Link 0 |
Jack Meagher was on the bench for Meath?
