Will reserve judgment until the league and know it is an experimental squad but could be a long year for the hurlers and their supporters, and not in a good way. Put in a decent second half Sunday but hard to see where scores are going to come from. off_the_wall (Roscommon) - Posts: 80 - 13/01/2026 13:17:42 2650926 Link 0 |

Don't know the full panel and that's the problem for a lot of people, it seems to be a big secret. Of the team that played at the weekend all i see to come back onto it are Geraghty, Whitty, Rodgers, O' Hanrahan and Byrne. Players from last years panel that have turned down the call up this year are Murray, Potterton, Darragh Kelly, O 'Rearden, Regan. Additional players of note that turned down the call up are McGann, Quigley (Trim), Gleeson, Walsh, McGowan's by3, McMahon. No Toher in the panel or James Kelly, very strange call. Then as far as i know Burke and Quigley not called back I also see the Na Fianna (Dublin) corner forward King is with the panel, as a goal keeper!! What's that about? Gonna be an interesting year:) Tobefair80 (Meath) - Posts: 105 - 14/01/2026 09:23:46 2650990 Link 0 |

Result aside, I was happy leaving Dunganny Sunday. They looked fitter and worked harder than they did at any stage during the Christy ring last season. The tackling and work off the ball was something that was massively missing last year. Slowandonesided25 (Meath) - Posts: 10 - 15/01/2026 09:28:32 2651118 Link 0 |

I would be extremely worried about hurling on the county scene this year. I think the first half the other day showed a lot and we have to remember down had another ( stronger) team playing on Sunday whereas we weren't a million miles from full strength. I am in fact Johnny Greville …… Not on the setup but very close to a players family - just want to see this group do well is all. I hear what these guys are doing on a weekly basis to try and better themselves and meath hurling and want to support them Slowandonesided25 (Meath) - Posts: 10 - 16/01/2026 10:32:54 2651287 Link 0 |

Hurling in Meath has gone backwards but the county team should still be doing better than they are. The last couple years have been dire. Playing players out of position and playing a brand of hurling that just doesn't seem to suit them. Add to that mishandling of some of the better hurlers in the county and is a recipe for disaster. I hope I'm wrong but this year could be pretty bad.

There appears to be very little buy in from the bigger clubs. Most clubs have dual players which in its self takes seriuos commitment so I suppose why would anyone want to also commit to training with the county hurlers when there is very little return or potential of winning. Dont agree tbh honest as if the best 20 in the county were on the panel there is a chance of winning it.

If you had best 20 playing you are solid mid table joe mc team. hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 450 - 26/01/2026 11:27:55 2653281 Link 1 |

If you had the best twenty committed to putting the effort required. You had a young fiercely committed team in Mullingar last Sunday and if Meath hurling people have any sense thats the road to go. They might not be the best players in Meath but Johhny Greville is creating a team thats playing the best brand of hurling from a Meath team in many years. jobber (Westmeath) - Posts: 1886 - 11/02/2026 08:37:44 2655878 Link 0 |

Careful Jobber they will think you are Johnny Greville too or part of the back room team with comments like that We left two points behind us in mullingar I was gutted leaving for them and should have had 4-20+ on the board. And that was without Tom Shine and Darragh Heffernan who both started against London and were injured and also without Shane Whitty , Sean Coloe, Kyle Donnelly, Podge Hanrahan, In all my years going to meath hurling games I've never seen a Meath team move the ball the way they did. Granted over played at times but it was easier watch than just hitting 50/50 ball up the field Slowandonesided25 (Meath) - Posts: 10 - 11/02/2026 09:14:44 2655884 Link 1 |

Have to agree with your comments, left 2 points behind, playing a decent style all be it a pass to many a few times, woudl love to see the genuine hurling people get behind them because there will be tougher league days ahead, you can see there is a proper coach involved this year as there is a game plan and system. long may it continue

I wont agree on the two points being left behind as forwards have to have the quality to take them and really we were pretty comfortable until we started putting on subs and according to our lads Peter Clarkes no goal was over the line. Nevertheless I have been going to WH v MH games for a long time and i have never seen a Meath team play such a good brand of hurling. I think there is a lot of promise there and your lads were super committed like a Meath football team jobber (Westmeath) - Posts: 1886 - 12/02/2026 22:30:56 2656141 Link 0 |
