I agree with you and to be honest - I'm a little fed up of the excuses. We were 3 points ahead with 8 minutes left and playing at home - we lost by 4 - a seven point turnaround in about 10 minutes! Cork are not exactly flying high themselves and I would have thought that having got into a strong position we should have been able to see it out! Some on hear are talking about the players we are missing - but who of them will be realistically back for championship and who of them will get in at this point! I think our league position reflects where we sit in the overall scheme of thing - we rank behind the 8 division one teams and Armagh and Donegal so at the very best we are 11th although Cork and Cavan can rightfully argue for that spot! How we go in the championship is likely to be more dependant on how the draw goes than anything else. I'm not expecting a lot at this point even though I was fairly positive earlier in the league! Let's not dress it up - that loss to Cork was a sickener - a win and we would have been 3rd in the league and momentum and more importantly attitude going in the right direction! If it works out as expected we will Finnish in sixth place in div 2. But hopefully higher.

Not the team I would go with, but I think based on the league so far and previous selections in big games, this will more than likely be the 15 that starts against Longford in three weeks if everyone is fit that are due to be fit for that game: BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 997 - 19/03/2024 13:56:01 2532143 Link 0 |
'm trying not to be to critical , the collapse against Cork may well of happened but really we could be on 10 points this season and that's what I keep telling myself. I just hope they perform against Donegal next Saturday and there's a positive end to the league . meath1987 (Meath) - Posts: 134 - 19/03/2024 14:42:13 2532156 Link 0 |
It would be great to see both Ronan Ryan and Jordan Morris back in the team - I think they would benefit from some game time against Donegal if they are fit! I think O'Neill has been very good at full back so could see Ryan in at 4! I think Shane Walsh needs to be more clinical in his score taking to merit a start - he's missed a lot but I suppose at least he is getting on the end of things! We could be. That's why congratulations on not getting relegated is such a slap in the face to players management and supporters alike

Think you've nailed it there.

Very disappointing end to our league campaign not much different from last year hopefully we see more of a improvement in the championship or else it's time to start looking at other options Meathfor@life (Meath) - Posts: 85 - 19/03/2024 18:36:37 2532220 Link 1 |
Adam has been terrific at full back and that No.3 jersey belongs to him, I'd be retrofitting Ryan in at 4

100%. O' Neill is in possession of the no. 3 jersey now

I agree, but I just think the way this management think, they will revert Ronan Ryan to 3 because he played there last year and Adam O'Neill will go to corner back.

With the way fixtures are falling this weekend, and Louths massive scoring difference against Fermanagh, Meath will end up finishing 3rd from bottom again, with Louth finishing 4th again. The same positions as last year.

Could indeed end up that way.

Young lad O halloran a 4 hasn't put a foot wrong, he shouldn't lose is place, a natural corner back.

Yeah like I wasn't really expecting us to go up this year but wanted us to at least push Donegal and Armagh for most of the league

He does tick the young player box so that should keep him in the team.

He will also be playing under 20's as well. I'd still have Ronan Ryan in the team when he comes back. The difference between a corner back and full back at county level is very small anyway

I think the lads performance needs to be judged on what the opposition done in the Cork game and the full forward line accounted for the majority of Corks scores so " ticking the young player box " doesn't win you game's.

Average conceded in the league is 14 points per game, and that's factoring in the hiding up in Armagh, grant it it could increase by a point or 2 come Saturday evening. Conceding 14 per game should give you a chance of winning most games at our level. Our problems have all been up the other end, both in midfield and forwards. O halloran not there cause he's young, he's there cause he's a very good up and coming corner back, we dont have many. He marked Chris og jones very well in cork game. Oneill was the one that had the toughest time, but he's had a good league. Our defensive unit has been solid throughout.
