Seems to be no clear system. We employed man to man and long ball during last years league and v Offaly seemed to be a return to the running game in TC , this year it's only after one game but no clear system evident in navan which I wouldn't read too much into v the blanket we faced. But on Saturday we have to have some focus on beating that Mass defense which we will face. Maybe couple of nippy forwards. I'd hope that's all we have been training for all week. That and an actual free taker. Then we can not only compete but win this game. Hon the royal royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 01/02/2024 12:15:17 2523653 Link 0 |
I would like to think the lads got a bit of a dressing down after last week. We all blame managers but its the men on the field that are there to do the business. For me if Aaron lynch is on the field he should be taking the frees and 45s. I dont see much light in the tunnel for the Armagh game however. You are right in terms of Mcgeeny is not the right fit for Armagh as his involvement has led to lots of players in armagh refusing to commit. But i think they are better than people give them credit for and last year only for a couple of last kicks in extra times, they could have been in the AI decider. Oh I agree. The players must shoulder most of the blame for that display last week. The only thing I will lay firmly a management's feet is the no13 for Fermanagh. For 70 minutes he took us apart. For 35 minutes of that he did it literally right in front of management eyes on sideline . That's indefensible. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 01/02/2024 13:04:42 2523661 Link 1 |
Not sure about that regarding Lynch taking the frees. There are at least five or six players ahead of him in the pecking order of taking frees from what I can see. Costello, Walsh, Frayne, McGowan, Moriarty etc BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 997 - 01/02/2024 13:12:52 2523665 Link 1 |
No Caulfield last night in the Sigerson? is he injured or maybe gone off the senior panel????

I think we have to pick a free taker and stick with it. There was plenty of anger directed at mcentee when he kept switching free takers. Colm seems to have got a pass on that so far. But year 2 he should have it sorted. I think 2 one from each side. And make them practice. I don't want to harp on or pick out any individual but Costello missing that free with strong wind behind him inside 45 and dropping it into gk hands is unacceptable in this day and age.

Anyway. Enough of the negativity from me. I'm normally very positive. So good news me and the kiddos have gotten tickets long drive from midlands but looking forward to it. Teen daughter has picked out a Spotify list for drive (so wish me luck with that one ) and I am going expecting a backlash and a win. Which will put us right back in the mix Meath by 2. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 01/02/2024 14:14:15 2523681 Link 0 |
Most people I think knew exactly what you meant, there was no disrespect shown to Armagh.

Big game for Meath in that we need to see a performance. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1400 - 01/02/2024 16:24:02 2523704 Link 1 |
Keep a bit of perspective in the games you reference. Louth beat us in the league by 3 points where we played the majority of the game with 14. Louth scrapped over the line against Offaly in the championship after extra time. Offaly beat us in a close game where we performed terribly in the first half. If we are going by those games alone this does not indicate Louth were far better than us last year. bdbuddah (Meath) - Posts: 1400 - 01/02/2024 16:34:12 2523709 Link 1 |
Don't see any disrespect, however they are a good side with plenty of experience, will Rian O Neil be back or is he long term injury? Class player and maybe Armagh rely to much on him. Difficult trip and may come's to early in campaign for us. Would be a massive win, but expect Armagh to push on after last week's near miss. Still a great test for our lad's and if we can get in front we have a fighters chance.

Just a heads up for anyone travelling up to Armagh on Saturday that if you are parking near the ground that the Stewarts are charging you €3 at the school. After the match they are not there and it took me 30 mins to get out of the car park. You are better off parking up in the Armagh City Hotel. Its about 10-15 minute walk to the ground. There is a club house at the ground. You will feel at home. Pearse Og the home club are green and gold. Ollie2 (Louth) - Posts: 911 - 01/02/2024 16:49:44 2523714 Link 6 |

oneill didn't feature against Louth but I don't know where he is at in terms of recovery! They have good forwards in Stefan Campbell and Turbitt - these 2 did the heavy scoring for them last weekend I listened to paddy Andrew's and James Odonoghue on with Tommy Rooney on Monday. They did a thing where they picked a player to watch out for in 2024 and Andrew's went with Riain's younger brother?! Anyway - here's to a great game - and hopefully a great result! A win in Armagh would be a huge step forward for the lads Any word on the team? Injuries from during the week! See Frayne got the winner for Maynooth - he's defo going well!! Same team as last week named. Definitely won't be same team that starts. Seems to be same as what's been done in Meath for years. Name the team from previous week and then make the changes later on. Which tbh I never minded but some went mad about it. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 02/02/2024 13:51:59 2523858 Link 0 |
When you come up against a team who relied on 2 players for around 80% of their scores then you got to think we have a good chance if the game is managed properly! JonnieG (Meath) - Posts: 246 - 02/02/2024 14:07:09 2523861 Link 1 |
What you have said is all accurate. We can only hope. And have faith that the sideline has copped on a bit and realized that things need to change. It is just about a year since we won a league or championship (real one). Game. Let's hope we put that right tomorrow night. Hon the royal. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 02/02/2024 16:12:05 2523885 Link 0 |
Travelling in hope rather than expectation tomorrow. A win of any kind against a decent team like Armagh would be huge. A good performance in a defeat would give you some hope. A performance like we saw last week, all last year bar the Cork and Down games.... would leave you questioning a lot of things. Hopefully it's the former! royal11 (Meath) - Posts: 102 - 02/02/2024 17:43:27 2523904 Link 2 |
