Introduced Shane Walsh and Paul Conroy at Half time. Comar and Sean Kelly absent from the game. Meath up by 1 point at half time and played great football but just ran out of steam a bit in second half. Overall a good result and good showing

Believe the team vs galway just for interest or anyone wondering was: 1.Sean Brennan 2.Michael Murphy 3.Adam O'Neill 4.Donal Keogan 5.Ciaran Caulfield 6.Daragh Campion 7.Sean Coffey 8.Daithi McGowan 9.Jack Flynn 10. 11.Eoghan Frayne 12.Ruairi Kinsella 13.Aaron Lynch 14.Matthew Costello 15.Shane Walsh
Can't remember who 10 was but I believe that was roughly the starting team for people wondering.

It will be interesting to see how the fullback line and center back get on in the league. Both are looking light in depth.
If everyone is fit then it's O Neill, Ryan and Keoghan as the fullback line with Harnan at 6.
Our depth chart in the fullback line:
Adam O Neill: People are eyeing him up as a fullback but he's not even the best fullback in his club. However he has all the potential to be a Kevin Reilly or maybe greater.
Ronan Ryan: Tight and aggressive. Was back up to Lavin and Gallagher in 2019/2020 however a 6"2 /6"3 full forward could cause him problems
Donal Keoghan: Started off his position there and could still do a man marking job if we needed which we probably will.
Harry O Higgins: Young, athletic but needs to get game time under his belt or at least be playing in the backs with Drumbaragh.
Michael Flood: He's a good man marker, could do a job for 10/15 minutes.
Michael Murphy: Only on the club scene in the last couple of years. Has a lot of potential but needs to show more with Dunboyne first in my opinion.
Brian O Halloran and Brian O Reilly: They will both get plenty of senior experience this year. Can't remember if either are still u20 but this should bring them on
Ben Wyer: I know he's not on the panel but should be considered again, there's a few question marks there if McGill isn't in the Ratoath team then Wyer can struggle a bit as he gets caught out of position or a lad can get in behind him. Is he good enough maybe but his aggressive nature is fantastic and something most of the backs lack.
Liam Kelly: It will be interesting to see how is year goes, u20s and if he wants to play with the Meath senior team then he needs to cement a place in the Ratoath fullback line.

Think your break down is spot on here. Brian O'Halloran has another year of 20s, Brian O'Reilly does not. Adam O'Neill will definitely start full back and Keoghan probably in one corner
With Ronan Ryan injured I'd expect Michael Murphy to play in the other corner, he's never played anywhere near the full back line with Dunboyne so it's a huge risk but he does have the athleticism and physicality at least which you probably can't say about a lot of them.

Interesting post - I think Adam O'Neill has the making of a very fine full back - and I think he'll start there against Fermanagh! I think Donal K will get a spot for sure and then I think O'Highins will get the other at least until Ryan is back!
I believe Ben Wyer is off the panel because he is going travelling- I think he has done a great job with Ratoath - especially as I think McGill was struggling last year!

Full back line will be the big problem this year, we have no dogs of corner backs, O´Neill could be decent at full back but lacks the raw pace for the top level, Flood miles off the level needed, hopefully some of the younger lads will kick on. Big year for the 20s there could be a few of them on the panel by the time championship comes. We need to see them at least win a Leinster, its a far more comparable to Senior than the Under 17 grade. I know that the feeling about quite a few of the players is that they are not as far along physically as was hoped.
Of the 21 that played on Friday night, how many of them do we see in the 26 for Fermanagh? I think 7. Billy, Flood, O´Connor, Moriarty, Finnegan, Conlan and Curtis, Rowe or McDonnell. Given that Brennan was the only keeper not to feature does that mean he is in possession of the number 1 jersey? for me he is for now, I think he offers that steadiness that is really important. I think Billy is the number 2.
Just hope all of the players come through the Sigerson unscathed.

Maybe if Brian O'Halloran and Jack Kinlough have a great 20s campaign they could be involved come championship but I don't see it, the best players on this 20s panel still have 2 years of 20s to play. Cian Commons and Eamon Armstrong are only 18 and probably the best prospects.
Regarding the goalkeeper situation I would be disappointed if its not Billy Hogan, Sean Brennan is steady but Billy Hogan is a little better in every aspect of Goalkeeping, especially going long with kickouts.

The best players on this 20's panel are Commons and Armstrong? you don't know much about football then or take off the blinkers. There are a lot more decent players that the two lads, yea they're decent but have you seen them play against Cavan or Monaghan in the recent games?.

I saw them both games and was impressed with both, especially Armstrong. They are 2 years younger so they won't be and shouldn't be the best players on the team. But I think they've more than held their own

For me this year will evolve around 1 game. Donegal away. What I want and what I sincerely hope all Meath supporters want is to be traveling to that game with our destiny in our own hands. Ie win and we secure promotion. I don't want a dead rubber or heaven forbid needing points to avoid relegation. THE ONLY way we can call improvement this year over last is if we heading there either with promotion secured or in our own hands. The Leinster is a write off. We know we are nowhere near Dublin should we get over Longford. We then will have at least 4 games to hone our skills for league next year against top teams. Despite what some bsers were trying to say last year. The only way to improve a team is to play teams at ur level and above. Then we can look forward to 2025 with some optimism

Nobody worrying about Donegal away at this stage at all and will be meaningless to Meath unless everything is in place beforehand. Win first round and build on that. Squad will be needed giving fast turnaround of games so let's hope every member of squad are up to the level!
