First thing ya need to do is start looking at games with your eyes instead of your heart. Meath wouldn't beat Waterford by 10 points plus these days. You'll be far less dissapointed if ya have more realistic expectations of the team.

I agree. But looks like that point will keep us in div 2 unless Clare beat Derry up in Derry, so it'll be div 2 again next year and probably a few trimmings in the All ireland this year too.

What's with the question mark we were never in one in the first place

Without question - but the point also probably takes us out of relegation Clare won't get anything out of Derry - and Kildare and Limerick play one another next Our game against Kildare is likely to be for a spot in Sam Maguire with loser likely to end up on Tailteain Cup Face it we won't beat Dublin and Kildare will likely beat Limerick Grim times! Kildare are just as bad as Limerick

Technically we can still get promoted, but I wouldn't like to see the odds since it involves a very specific set of results. We need Cork to beat Louth in 2 weeks (not unlikely). We'd need to beat the Dubs the same weekend (fanciful). CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1664 - 05/03/2023 16:32:18 2461996 Link 19 |
An apology for what exactly? We finished with 6 points after 7 games in the league last year and Andy had been building his team for 6 years. We are already on 5 points after 5 games and the new manager is only in the job 2 months. What is with your agenda against this manager? Maestro (Meath) - Posts: 584 - 05/03/2023 16:40:10 2462002 Link 12 |
I think youre right, Andy did have his panel punching above their weight, at least for two years. My advice would be the same as the other poster's reply, lower your standards. I did in the last two/three years. There was a time I would have been mortified losing to Limerick or Louth and would have judged Meath off of the teams of the past. I dont do that anymore, and I actually enjoy games a lot more. This team went to Limerick today, scored 2-10 and drew. Last week they lost by a few points to a worthy winning team. They went down to Cork and scored 3-14. They went up to Derry and wouldnt have won if they took to the field with six-inch mortars. I mean in a way its a sad state of affairs, but I just think thats where we are. We have to enjoy the good days when they come (such as the win in Cork), but appreciate that there will be many bad days, and thats the reality of our standing in the modern game. I dont get upset anymore. I think Ive done the 5 stages of grief and have settled on acceptance. Young_gael (Meath) - Posts: 596 - 05/03/2023 16:42:55 2462003 Link 17 |
Hopefully- but I won't be putting anything on us beating them in Kildare!

Anyone with any sense of reality knew that were hoping for 4th at best and 6th at worst for the league this season. That point today keeps us out of relegation i would say

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard! There are players in Meath with as much technical ability as there is in Derry…but Derry players want to win, fight for every ball and go to war for each other. Until the basics are right and foundations laid…then the more things change, the more they stay the same! GenderNeutral (Meath) - Posts: 114 - 05/03/2023 16:53:49 2462007 Link 2 |
And we are as bad as Limerick and Kildare. We will lose our last 2 games and be in Tailteann Cup, relegation or not. Kildare look bad but honestly can't see us beating them away. Is Walsh still not 100% fit or he just can't put a string of performances together? He needs to step up and start scoring points, we're seriously lacking up front. Lacking intelligence on the field as well. As bad as we are, we were in winning positions against Louth and today and game management wasn't there. Lads lads lads, no hope of promotion. Less chance of a Leinster, Sam a pipe dream, tailteann cup is where we at. Now let's accept it , and hope we stay in in div 2. royler (Meath) - Posts: 278 - 05/03/2023 17:06:43 2462013 Link 1 |
Wouldn't disagree at all about playing in tailteann cup, for a team that has been struggling to put together a run of wins and good performances, tailteann cup wouldn't be the worst thing after Leinster. Obviously still hoping that we can pick up a few more points from the last two games but if we avoid going down to division three but play in tailteann cup because we finished third last it's not the worst outcome. Thats aii we are going to hear, talking out of both sides of his mouth, when MacEntee took over he made it all about MOD week after week, now its Colms turn, will continue to post sly digs, while telling us COR has his full support. Cant wait to highlight the negative. Majority of posters realise this is a rebuilding project after many years of neglect and survival was the goal. The point today should see us safe, we may have to depend on other results going our way to make all Ireland series. Would like to see us play top tier in the summer, however if its TC so be it. Keep rebuilding and hope for better things next season.

I'm fairly sure clare have to beat cork in munster, or fermanagh down or cavan have to negotiate very tough provincial routes to get to a final, to prevent 6th place in div 2 from being in All Ireland. All are unlikely. southmeathgael (Meath) - Posts: 937 - 05/03/2023 17:37:36 2462029 Link 16 |
Had enough chances if last few minutes to win, but once again only 13 scores, we must have been in double figures for wides and once again turnovers of our forwards led to several scores for Limerick, still way to easy for teams to run through us. Credit to them, after been hammered by Cork last week they bounced back and worked hard on and off the ball and deserved the draw. Really tough one next time out, Dublin will want to wrap up promotion so its hard to see us getting anywhere near them. Away to Kildare will be huge for both teams. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2195 - 05/03/2023 17:55:41 2462038 Link 6 |
All this talk about the Tailteann Cup and possible qualification is shifting the focus a bit in my mind. stillaroyal (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 05/03/2023 17:56:10 2462041 Link 1 |
It will take a series of unlightly results in championship to put the sixth place in TC. Will be watching results with interest. A run in A/I series, while testing, would be good experience. Then again I think I said that about super 8s a few years back.

Pity all the people still following this lot ! Say what you want McGill should be playing 3 today ! Its a failing on colm for not having him there ! Why was Harnan named at 12 and not in the squad ! Just strange ! This meath team are a waste of space ! No doubt ! The likes of dunners saying there gonna win by 10 plus ! Kildare will beat them next day no doubt ! Will be putting all i can muster on kildare ! Might as well make a few bob on our misery ! grahamc9897 (Meath) - Posts: 1175 - 05/03/2023 19:17:15 2462069 Link 19 |
