Apart from a couple of players, Meath were not at the races. Its a big concern. Hopefully we are still on experimental mode and will improve in the league. A couple of lads really out of shape, not fit for a decent club side, never mind a county panel. It was like watching men against boys. Plenty of room for improvement. James murray for starters? but id argue that the kildare game selection was pretty much the same side that did so poorly last year and in my opinion i think there are better lads available like the 6 you mention and a few from ratoath(the 2 best teams in the county the last time out). Jumping the gun a bit with the doomsday predictions here. League and championship will see a different animal. Cup to blood lads and add a few options to an experienced panel. I wouldn't read too much into any of the games so far. Some guys putting their hands up for a spot in the team and some guys with a bit of work to do to get there. Massive change in personnel this year on the panel so not sure what 1 of the previous posters is looking at, we are starting a long slow road to rebuild the team/squad and it is badly needed. I don't see too many players missing from the current panel that will make themselves available or that are good enough, unless I am missing someone we are as strong as we are going to be for the year. Do not forget that football is for those who cant play hurling ;) Its still early days and a good mixture of new lads involved. While winning is important its only a preseason competition against a fairly strongly lined out Kildare squad. Things will be very bleak if the hurlers don't go up. They should be lightyears ahead of the other teams in 2B. The problem is that we seem to be too good for 2B and not good enough for 2A. While in 2A, I can't remember a significant victory against a supposed higher ranked team. We'd beat the likes of London, Mayo, Wicklow etc., but when it came to the likes of Kerry, Westmeath, Offaly etc., we'd either get a hiding or succumb to a brave, narrow defeat. It's pathetic the way Hurling has gone at inter County level for Meath. Not so long ago we were competing with, and even beating, Kerry and Antrim. We regularly gave Kildare, Down, Derry etc. a hiding. Now all these teams are competing at a higher level than us. They're respective county boards have invested in hurling and they have all progressed, Particularly Antrim, who are in division 1 and putting it up to the big guns. And I remember the days whe we were competing with Dublin in the early 2000s. They were able to go on to bigger things. And it's the same old story with Meath, we get left behind.
