I think the point here relates to Douglas and playing all last winter with the footballers and then straight back into it this season - of course a great thing to have a run to the all ireland but he could well be tired. I dont think a comparison with Ratoath was being made. Yes, this weekend Ratoath are playing football in the semi but this is the first occasion that Trim footballers have not being playing.

Big day of the hurling year nearly here, looking forward to the game. countyman123 (Meath) - Posts: 34 - 04/10/2022 11:59:59 2442760 Link 0 |
I think it has to be said that Kiltale were without 3 prominent players, namely Iarla Hughes, Mark O'Sullivan and one of the McCabes. You are also right about the referee and referees in general, blow OBVIOUS frees and any action that endangers an opponent should be merit a card. This did not always happen during this championship and is unacceptable. MillerX (Meath) - Posts: 1080 - 04/10/2022 14:05:17 2442781 Link 1 |

Trim v Ratoath will be an open game. It will be all about the teams and not the Referee. I think, as a punter, when we want a free flowing game, we don't want to hear the whistle for a 50/50 thrown ball, let an extra half step go. Stiofan (Meath) - Posts: 67 - 05/10/2022 09:42:03 2442837 Link 0 |
Hard not to think ratoath name is on the cup when you think of the luck they have had , and you need luck to win any championship. hurlit (Meath) - Posts: 424 - 06/10/2022 16:50:22 2443030 Link 2 |
Your having a laugh, he will not let anything flow, never has. Trim are the best team in the county at the moment. They beat Ratoath easily when they met earlier with only 13 men on the field, what will they do with 15 men.

Think your right. I think it will be very interesting though if Trim manage to get into an early lead of 4-5 points to see if the ratoath lads will drop their heads as its inevitable that they will have nexts week match in the back of their minds also. Hopefully we get something like the last final they played as it was a classic. Irish_downunder (Meath) - Posts: 640 - 07/10/2022 08:49:18 2443061 Link 0 |
I wouldn't read to much into the group game, Kiltale beat them as well and that didn't count for to much. I do think Trim are the better team at the minute but a final is purely down to the 'on the day performance' and on their day Ratoath can beat Trim as easily as the other way around.

I think that Trim are potentially the best team in the county. They didn't show it against Kildalkey in the semi. Timing is everything - original playing of 2020 final - Ratoath were strong favorites. Trim lads have improved since then but I dont think they are the finished article yet and the dual players have had a long couple of years.

All this stuff about Ratoath only winning one game is hilarious. They came fourth in group A and made the knockouts, simple as that. Na Fianna didn't win a single game (not even against Dunboyne in their last game), should they have gone through instead? Had they managed to turn even one of their three draws into a win, they would have gone through and deservedly so. That's Na Fianna's issue, no one else's. Your posts generally come across as bitter when it comes to teams beating Kiltale. There are constantly sly digs at luck, injuries, referees or location of the games among other things. As for Sunday, Trim should win. They've had the better of games against us for years, the only recent exception being the first game of the 2021 championship which can be put down to a hangover from the 2020 final win. Can see a Trim dynasty at senior level on the horizon with them dominating underage levels recently (which will almost certainly continue in the minor final at the weekend). Hopefully a game of similar quality to the 2020 final, with a different result. That loss still stings. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 07/10/2022 10:43:39 2443079 Link 8 |

Going into the final round of the group games the reality for Ratoath was that they HAD to beat Kildalkey and got an excellent start but Kildalkey, who were already qualified beat them comfortably and Ratoath literally scraped through due to a draw match 10 miles away. So in effect Ratoath, as far as they should be concerned we're in a knockout situation and couldn't deliver. Granted they completely dismantled Killyon in the Q/f and did manage to also dismantle a depleted Kiltale team in the semifinal. Meanwhile Trim stuttered and stumbled several times in their semifinal tussle with Kildalkey and aided by a goalkeeping dream show DID manage to beat a somewhat depleted Kildalkey by a single point. Wonder have trim any injuries yet, normally hear a rumour around now that a big name is injured. pixey (Meath) - Posts: 60 - 07/10/2022 13:45:02 2443107 Link 2 |
Won't hear that unless they lose , then the excuses will start Lads tired , lads carrying injuries, long season, playing both codes, referring decisions, etc etc Awaywin (Meath) - Posts: 116 - 08/10/2022 18:26:21 2443203 Link 0 |
To be fair, I would prefer to be a Trim or Ratoath supporter now. They are in the final. The rest of us can lick our wounds and dream of what could have been. Realistically, unless you are in the Top 4, you have very little chance. Since 2007, Kiltale and Kildalkey have dominated, Trim have been competitive, and Ratoath never brought a good team over the line. Ratoath and Trim are going well in both codes. Trim have other finals to look forward to. They have plenty coming through Juvenile. Kildalkey won Junior 2 with their 3rd team. They won the Billy Byrne Cup with 2nd team. They got to 3 semi finals. They got to the final of the Brendan Davis Cup. Div 3 final next week with Trim facing Kildalkey. And Kildalkey will be disappointed. Looking at other teams this year, I dont see much change at the top table. Teams are going backwards and not much coming through the ranks. No matter how many times lads come on this forum, putting the top teams down, it wont make a difference. Stiofan (Meath) - Posts: 67 - 09/10/2022 12:50:48 2443257 Link 1 |
