There's no two ways about it. This is a must win game. Lose and we in relegation dogfight and probably going down as I feel relegation is between us Down and Offaly so in that since this is a real 4 pointer. A win be it a good or a dogged win is all that matters. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 12/02/2022 13:35:12 2399914 Link 0 |
I agree, its a massive game for many reasons - lets hope we can avoid the relegation dogfight. Any word on Aaron Lynch? The talk was that he would be brought in once Trim were done. He probably couldn't start but surely on the bench next week. That said, he is worth a shot but is certainly not a sure thing to succeed at this level. stillaroyal (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 12/02/2022 15:50:57 2399928 Link 1 |
I presume he is been brought in. But like you said can't see him starting. But we might see him for last 10 20 minutes.

I am not so sure we can expect too much from young Lynch, he reminds me very much of Joey Wallace and James conlon who have both really struggled at senior county level due to their lack of height. Would you have him on a head of either of these lads ? thelutch (Meath) - Posts: 1073 - 12/02/2022 18:13:15 2399964 Link 4 |
your right we have enough small light forwards

Very good point

I think he deserves a go - but don't keep expectations massively high. I don't really know enough about all three players to rank them but there should be space for a player with his level of accuracy. Of course a forward especially a relatively small one will rely on a good supply line. As the two other guys are not exactly shooting the lights a go even as a sub should be considered.

Players need to ask themselves do they want to be playing Tailteann Cup this summer, cos that's where they're headed. Looked Andy is what he is and won't change now, but it's up to the players to show they want to play in the Sam Maguire come the summer. They're not going to win Leinster, so have to maintain division 2 status or it's Tailteann cup and I doubt many of them will stick around if that's the case. With a shortened season they could head of to America for the full 3-4 months of summer, make a few bob for themselves and throw their hats at intercounty football. This really is about the future of Meath football and by the end of the season they could be in a worse place than Andy McEntee picked them up from. Division 3 and possibly Tailteann Cup again in 2023, which none of them would want to be involved in. If the players have any pride in the jersey and their own names then they'll show up on Sunday and give a performance. If things go bad we could be set for years of playing in the back waters of football. Will players willingly give of their time knowing they've no hope of playing on the main days of the summer. Will the young talent stay playing football knowing the same or look elsewhere. Things are that grim in my opinion. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 14/02/2022 12:05:15 2400278 Link 13 |
James Toher has been called into the meath football squad. Brilliant addition. The Aaron Lynch fans will be disappointed however. BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 997 - 14/02/2022 12:43:00 2400286 Link 0 |
Not sure what point you are trying to make here - Can both not be called in? Are you saying you would prefer Aaron Lynch NOT to be called in ? i think it could be some hurling supporters that will be more disappointed as he would otherwise be back in with the hurlers. Hopefully James will get a run in this game - not necessarily starting. He should be pretty well up to speed and has the physicality but has struggled with some injury niggles. As said above huge, huge game and not the occasion for petty commenting in a know all tone. stillaroyal (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 14/02/2022 12:56:21 2400288 Link 0 |
I wouldn't be so dramatic. Div 3 and Tailteann Cup might be best place to start the rebuild that will be needed. Best place to get youngsters good experience and build from there. Menton , O Sullivan, Keoghan, McGill might be all gone next year. Would rather the youngsters coming through were in Div 3 than Div 2 then to get off to a good start with all these lads gone (this is a projection, not a fact). Be fantastic to win a Tailteann Cup to start off with and it wouldn't be easy either. We aren't so high and mighty that we should turn our noses up. We should look at ourselves like a big town intermediate team with good youngsters coming through. An intercounty version of Trim or Dunsaughlin if you like. Yeah those are fair points you make Crinigan and fully see where you're coming at it from ;) Out of interest what makes you think Cillian and McGill might be finished after the season? Again see why they might but they are still young enough. Menton and Keoghan owe us nothing and we're blessed to have them whilst we have, they deserved better for their efforts. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 14/02/2022 16:01:39 2400333 Link 11 |
Banty Conlon was one of our best forwards in 2019 MOTM vs Laois. Wallace was probably our best forward vs dublin last year so I disagree re your point. I would like to see lynch on squad he deserves his chance might I add. rubia (Meath) - Posts: 26 - 14/02/2022 17:29:21 2400361 Link 1 |
And two wins Meath should get. Meath have got Down at the right time, Kilcoo players unlikely to be involved so a expected home win there. Strong possibility that Offaly won't win any game in Div 2 they are out of their depth in this division. Yondu (UK) - Posts: 845 - 14/02/2022 19:46:20 2400392 Link 0 |
how long did it take Trim to get out Of Intermediate?

I completely disagree. He is an average club player at best.

This is a good time to get Down with the Kilcoo lads still celebrating. Offaly are very disappointing and even though its away it looks like two points will be got there. ABK67 (Meath) - Posts: 62 - 17/02/2022 16:24:13 2400884 Link 0 |
