Is there anything similar that we could do? Not easy but some outside the box thinking required."
Could play in the Offaly or Dublin ones I presume.

Have to start with the basics here. Are we getting the best 15 hurlers in the county to commit. Answer is clearly no. I've heard it from a few who haven't committed this year that they simply think the training is not good enough and the Management team are not up to it from a tactical standpoint (obvious from results).

Can this be rectified, probably too little too late and at present we would do well to even compete in the christy ring if we were in it this year.

As far as the underage is going there has been tons of hard work done with some real talent coming through but look if its blocked at the top what's the point. The 20s this year were unfortunate but being realistic about it, they are probably the weakest generation for a while and out of the 15 starters, id say only 2-3 would will realistically have any chances of progressing to the senior team.

I wouldn't dream of rating Carlow on Saturday's performance as they would have had far more competitive training sessions. Trouble for Carlow now is that they have to play Kerry next Saturday who had a competitive game against Down last Saturday. Kerry lost that game so will be very keen to keep their summer going. Our boys are away to Offaly who also need a win…..we will have a tough afternoon but hopefully not a cruel one. But the best pointer to the outcome of the group will come in Ballycran on Sunday when Down host Antrim. Still think the final will be between Antrim and Offaly.

There's no way meath can be this bad at hurling judging by results this year. There must be something seriously wrong in the whole camp

Since our last correspondence we gave a decent enough performance against Offaly and that with 14 for the entire section half…then came last Saturday, total disaster. I know of at least one team member who didn't travel for no particular reason so there are some 'unhappy campers' there, some well worth their places not in the camp either, this regime has more or less run it's course. A bigger problem is that nobody seems to care.

Westmeath proposed cross border hurling leagues a few years ago but Meath refused.

That seems to be a bad situation, 4 games played and over 40 points a game conceded. I suppose a win in Down is possible or will the white flag be shown and let the County slip to the Christy Ring for a handier time in 2023. We are already down in the League and with only a win over an under strength Kildare team to show for the year.

I've never heard of Sean Boylan managing the Meath hurlers, but he played hurling for Meath from 1970 to 1979.

Poor result yet again for our intermediate champions. When are we going to address the hurling championship structures to make them fit for purpose rather than rewarding mediocre teams for being the best of a bad bunch!

Jesus that has to be one of the worst meath hurling defeats in my lifetime. Hats of to The Louth champions but thats an embarrassing result. Just shows how poor a standard the IHC is. Maybe its time to go to Senior,Senior B,Intermediate,Junior

Realistically we've never had 12 senior standard teams, but the gap was small enough that we could convince ourselves that 12 was right. Then a big gap started opening up between the best and the rest, and the weak teams were shunted off to their own group so that they wouldn't have to play the strong. This way we could pretend that there was no gap because you can't have big wins if you just don't play the games.

Unsurprisingly this hasn't actually done anything to improve the quality. Just cut senior and intermediate to 10 teams and move the 4 cut teams to junior. Junior's already only 5 teams anyway.

I would go 8 Senior, 8 Intermediate, groups of 4 with top 2 into semifinals. Bottom team in each group to playoff for relegation. The remaining teams to Junior and Junior 2. No Junior 3.

Sean Boylan played hurling for Meath from the mid to early 60s.

And can we please stop calling in Junior 2, and call it Junior B.

It doesn't bother me what the second tier of Junior is called whither by letter or number, the point I wanted to get across was that a third tier should NOT be introduced. Currently there is I think six or seven tiers in the football premier competitions, far too many.
