Big congrats to Trim, had a stream of it on the laptop while watching our ladies. Aaron Lynch was absolutely brilliant, 1-7 with 1-4 from play but it wasn't just his scoring, won some really tough ball with defenders stuck to him, made quick decisions and didn't hold the ball, brought other forwards into the game, has to be on the Meath panel once Trim are finished up which may not be for a while yet. Was also impressed with Fitzgerald in midfield. Our ladies just had a nightmare and Mourneabbey are a serious team. It's hindsight but the exam the break over Christmas hurt the momentum which had been built by Meath and carried on through Dunboyne, but a Leinster title is a great achievement and hopefully, we can get back to the all Ireland series again in the coming years LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1523 - 16/01/2022 16:49:59 2395172 Link 4 |
Huge Congrats to Trim - Leinster Intermediate Football Champions. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 3983 - 17/01/2022 11:04:38 2395248 Link 0 |
Yes well done to Trim, but they should have won the Meath Intermediate in 2019 but completely bottled it and again in 2020 and now as a result are two strong for Intermediate. May get a bit of a wake up call against possibly the likes of Ratoath and Dunboyne in the SFC. Also the size of Trim as town compared to nearly every other club in Meath should be factored in before they start shouting from the roof tops about winning an Intermediate title. They should be asking themselves how they ended up there in the first place. BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 997 - 17/01/2022 11:53:38 2395262 Link 1 |
This is some backhanded compliment LOL.

Great performance from Trim. They managed to grind out the win even though they were two players down in the second half. That game should be a great preparation for the SFC next year. I think its the Connaught / Roscommon champions St Faithleach's in the All Ireland semi final. stillaroyal (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 17/01/2022 12:42:06 2395278 Link 1 |
Has douglas' red card been appealed? be a big loss for Trim if its not overturned. Seemed like a fairly harsh one as just stood his ground. Irish_downunder (Meath) - Posts: 640 - 27/01/2022 10:23:13 2396669 Link 1 |
Appealed and rejected apparently

I heard that he lost the appeal. Agreed ref him standing his ground. Huge loss, A lot of the play goes through him. Some great passes into forward line and very strong going forward. Lynch and Cullen could struggle scoring without him. stillaroyal (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 27/01/2022 11:35:24 2396689 Link 1 |
Heard he lost his appeal , not 100% sure tho

Jeez who peed in your cornflakes. Congratulating them and then lifting your leg and doing your business all over it. I don't see anyone from Trim screaming from the rooftops about winning an Intermediate. And you could say the above about several clubs given the pick of players they have, O'mahonys and Dunshaughlin (barely surviving at senior) Don Ash not even close at senior level and Kells too... but on the flip side what about the success of those clubs like Wolfe Tones with a very small player pool etc.. Size of the population has no impact on things Hurling has always been the primary game in Trim and that's not changing any time soon. I honestly can't remember the last time they were senior, if in fact they ever were senior in the last 40 or so years. Sure didn't Darren fay transfer to Dunderry so he could play senior football, now i think he married into the parish but he was given Trim's blessing on it too if I'm remembering correctly. Anyways good luck to Trim in their upcoming All Ireland Semi Final brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 27/01/2022 14:17:06 2396723 Link 10 |
Were Trim not only relegated in 2011 or so?

Yes, think it was then they were relegated. They had a good team in the early 200's - lost narrowly in the SFC final of 2002 to Dunshaughlin and got to qtrs / semi's other years.

Fair enough, I'm not going to lie, i honestly can't ever remember them being in senior, so fair play for picking me up. I can admit my errors ;)

Exactly. Donabate were in the Leinster Intermediate championship and would have a similar population to Trim yet were knocked out in the QF (as far as I can see, their main hurling team plies their trade in Junior D). Kilcock has a population of around 6000 and wouldn't have anywhere close to as big an interest in hurling as Trim. Countless teams from places with relatively large populations go through transitions. As mentioned, Dunshaughlin will be Intermediate in 2021, NOM were close to going down (and indeed were relegated back in 2001 before coming back up 2 years later), Don/Ash weren't promoted to Senior until 2007, Kells in 2013. None of those teams would have a hurling setup anywhere close to Trim's. Good luck to Trim tomorrow. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 28/01/2022 12:26:40 2396844 Link 13 |
Out of interest is any of that starting Trim team on the Meath senior panel this year? Steelstown of Derry in the final a great occasion for both clubs Yondu (UK) - Posts: 845 - 29/01/2022 15:55:13 2396987 Link 0 |
Great win for Trim! Another All Ireland final to look forward to. They'll play Steelstown of Derry In Croke Park next Sunday. By the looks of it, Steelstown were very tenacious in defence so Trim will need to be ready for that. Ratoath Royal (Meath) - Posts: 1374 - 29/01/2022 16:18:07 2396993 Link 10 |
Not yet anyway.

The Trim final is fixed for Croke Park an hour after Meath Roscommon throws in, in Navan. It's an awful pity as I'm sure many people would have gone to support Trim had it not been clashing. urizen (Meath) - Posts: 116 - 29/01/2022 18:51:33 2397031 Link 0 |
