Meath Clubs In Leinster

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

For the first time in 2 years, we've a provincial club championship to look forward to. I think every Meath fan gets behind all the clubs representing us in Leinster, regardless of the rivalries in the county championships.

First up this weekend, St. Vincent's play the Louth Junior Champions, Glen Emmets on Saturday in Drogheda. If Vincent's get through that, it'll be a game against either Clonbullogue of Offaly or Legan Sarsfields of Longford in the quarter finals.
Trim have a midweek game in the Leinster IFC. They're in Ashbourne on Wednesday evening against St. Fechins (again of Louth). If they win, they're up against the Kilkenny senior champions.
Wolfe Tones probably have the biggest test of all our football representatives as they'll face the Dublin champions (either Kilmacud Crokes or St. Judes) in the quarter finals.

In hurling, either Kiltale or Kildalkey will face the Offaly Senior B champions in the Leinster Intermediate Club Hurling Championship two weeks after the final.
Boardsmill or Drumree will also face an Offaly team (Shamrocks as Offaly Intermediate champions) in the club junior hurling championship on the same weekend.

Best of luck to all the Meath clubs representing us in Leinster club competitions. Hopefully some more silverware is won before the end of the year.

Fair play ratoath royal. Yes it would be good to see some of the teams progressing and, hopefully, show some of the development potential of some o fthe teams and players on a bigger stage.

Provincials are hard to guage as teams have maye been celebrating a bit. In theory you would think that Vincents and Trim would have a decent chance of progressing and that Wolfe Tones will face a tough task but you never know - it is great to see Cian Ward still playing on a bigger stage.

If Kiltale can win on Sunday they should have a decent crack at the Leinster Intermediate championship as they are well experienced in the competition.

Looked like Vincent's were convincingly beaten yesterday. You'd hope that with the junior grade expanding, our teams would return to the sort of success we had in the 2000s and early 2010s. Though I obviously don't know how seriously Vincent's took the competition.

The St Vincents result confirms everyone's thoughts on the standard of the Junior Championship this year. Losing to a Louth team by that much is poor stuff.

Well done to Trim for making it through. They'll likely play Mullinavat of Kilkenny in the quarter final (assuming they win their fifth Kilkenny SFC in a row). Hope they don't go in thinking it's a foregone conclusion playing a Kilkenny football team as Mullinavat made the Leinster final back in 2019 having beaten the Dublin and Laois champions on the way.

Hopefully people get out and support all our Club teams in Leinster at the weekend, each fixture looks like a tough one for each of our respective champions. Everyone has said it and nothings changed but Wolfe Tones will have an extremely tough task ahead of them, going to be a very big ask against the Dublin champions and can't see them getting a result but hope they prove me wrong. Trim on the other hand will fancy their chances and hopefully they don't go in too confident just because it's a Kilkenny football team, just need to focus on the job and get it done, I see them going far in this competition.

On the hurling front, Both Kildalkey and Boardsmill kick off their Leinster campaigns against Offaly opposition, Not sure what to think as I may be of the impression that the two Offaly champions may be of higher level than both our representatives, nothing to do with both teams but maybe the standard of our senior and intermediate competitions compared to Offaly ? Both teams are going to find it tough here and May get a win but will be hard come by, especially Boardsmill as it's rumoured the Intermediate champions have been dealing with a lot of covid cases the past 2 weeks so I'd doubt they have been together collectively since the final which is unfortunate and just bad luck.

Didn't mean to exclude the ladies. Well done to Dunboyne for making it to the Leinster final. Emma Duggan with a late goal in extra time. They're up against reigning champions Foxrock Cabinteely in the final on Sunday.

I am looking forward to the Tones game on Sunday. They have had 4 weeks now to prepare for it and Kilmacud have only had 2 weeks. The 4 weeks is a big thing for a team winning their first one in such a long time. Playing in Navan is a huge advantage for them too so it sets up very nicely for Tones.

I don't give Tones any chance unfortunately.

The gulf in class is just too big. Between the club secnes in the counties not necessarily just between Tones and Crokes.

I also think 2 weeks is more ideal preparation than 4 weeks even with the celebrations I'm sure they did in the week after the final.

I also think PT will be no advantage to them. Huge wide pitch will suit Crokes pace power and mobility. Hopefully I'm massively wrong but i see Crokes winning by at least 7.

In saying all that I will be hoping for a big upset.

Very best of luck to The Tones.

Congratulations to Dunboyne on winning the Leinster championship! Foxrock Cabinteely had won the previous 6 Leinster championships so its an incredible achievement! Absolutely phenomenal 12 months for ladies football in Meath.
Trim have made it to the semi finals and they'll play Crossabeg Ballymurn of Wexford. Great chance of silverware for them.
Kilmacud had too much for Tones, Kildalkey were pipped by Clodagh Gaels and Boardsmill were easily beaten.

Well done to the dunboyne girls does anyone know who they play in the all ireland semi final a great achievement, Wolfe tones done themselves proud today with Paul mannion and a ref wearing a dublin hat being the difference between the two teams.

Well done Tomes. Gutsy performance and put it up to Crokes. The gulf in class just too much in the end but can be proud of their efforts.

Well done on getting easily defeated at home?
I don't think Kilmacud are anything special this year.
Its not that long ago the Wicklow champions bet the Dublin champions.

I did not see any gulf in class during the match that I watched in PT. Tones lost the match in first half with some poor shooting when under little pressure. The sending off of ward had an impact on the result- thought his first yellow was very soft and considering the number of yellow cards handed out to the opposition with no negative effect. Decent enough match in very good conditions.

Just my opinion . Always felt Crokes had enough in hand even when level. certainly wasn't easy for crokes but I just felt the gulf in class showed when it really mattered. Dublin club football is much stronger than Meath club football that is what I mean by gulf in Class.

Congrats to Trim on making the final. They'll be up against Clara of Offaly in the final. Fingers crossed they can Brin the Seán Eiffe Cup back to Meath!

Good luck to Trim and Dunboyne in their games this weekend. According to the bookies, it's pretty much a toss-up between Trim and Clara but hopefully the familiarity of Pairc Tailteann will be an advantage and they can bring Seán Eiffe back to Meath.
Dunboyne are rank outsiders against Mourneabbey who are going for 3 All Irelands in a row. Though the way the last 12 months have gone for Meath teams, that means nothing and hopefully they can spring yet another surprise.
